Political CompassThis is a featured page

Recently the question was asked as to what types of people would be left: what kinds of morals, views, outlooks. Most people assume that the survivalist mentality is one that is right-wing, authoritarian and militaristic. I disagree. We have people from all walks of life, with different viewpoints. Some of the best (and most controversial) threads come from the wildly differing opinions of the members of this site.

Below is the ZSDW Political Compass. It is based on the results of this test. The x axis (horizontal) is the economic leaning. The y axis (vertical) is the social leaning.

I just had a huge argument with this suburban spoilt brat soccer mom (in a respectful manner I might add) about things like violent video games,MMA,bodybuilding, guns, survivalism and even porn for gods sake.

The general idea that came across from her was "ban this, ban that" and I was getting visibly frustrated.I responded in kind by saying that she :

1.) Had no experience in any of these fields and so could not comment
To which the reply was "I thank god I don't have....these things are wrong and the whole rambo argument blah blah"

2.) What right did she have to tell a person what they could/couldn't do.I said I enjoyed the idea of making Veganism illegal, to which she responded in horror. But I said I wouldn't push that agenda politically because I believed in individual freedom. Her counter argument was that people didn't know what was best and the safety of others needed to be taken into consideration.

3.) She brought up the fact that bodybuilding stunts growth and seemed to think everyone juices,to which I quoted numerous scientific studies done independently that verified that only a small majority of Gym rats used the gear and that bodybuilding actually enhances youth growth by producing more testosterone etc.

4.) She seemed to think that supplies should be stockpiled, but that weapons aren't needed and that the government would still be intact and able to assist.Almost laughable to everyone here on this forum.

5.) She said there were so many "facts" she had seen on the "news" about how violent video games and movies affect the mindset of ordinary kids and turn them into mass murderers.I stated that this was not true or else the millions of people who brought COD would go on a rampage cough cough.I also said even if,so what.I would rather they go on a shooting rampage than my personal freedom be restricted.

I knew there were people from all over the spectrum here, but I would have guessed most would be more conservative. There are way more people leaning to the left and libertarian (bottom). Very informative. Good job Pedro.

If a world wide outbreak does occur, is there a higher possibility of a political revolution afterwards?

food for thought
