Psychological Effects on the Living

Cover sheet for the area we inspect the insides of our brains and put the contents on the line to dry. Things such as our fears, humor and rationalities should be discussed inside.

Question #1) What creature comfort do you expect to miss the most? Would you scrounge for a replacement? Would you kill for it?

-Maricely: I would miss being able to sleep soundly without worrying about having to get up and run at a moments notice.
-Capatain_Bloodloss: I don't imagine there would be much fresh sushi around and since it doesn't keep well, I imagine I'd be sushi-less. That would probably suck the most. How is it even possible that something can be so nutritious and delicious at the same time? Seriously. If I went long enough... nah... I couldn't kill for sushi.
-Pbpsning- The Internet. My one stop shop for all the weird, factual and in factual information there is in the world. However, my thirst for knowledge may be quenched by blood lust. Yes...I would kill for it, as a matter of fact in an world after Z day, I would kill for every thing necessary for survival, and for most luxury comforts.

-Deathvalley55: I would miss my music (ipod, etc.). I would go for a replacement, but I would not have to kill for it (I mean, come on...for music?). I would also miss relaxing, and my family and friends.
-Springatron- I would expect to miss my coffee, my energy drinks and my diet caffeine water. Yes I would look for them, I am an addict. No I would not kill for them.
-ZombieEd101- I would miss hot showers and my Xbox360. No more cleanliness and Halo. All I would be able to play would be the live action version of DEAD RISING.....
deadslayer69- most of the stuff your guys are naming could be jacked from stores, I would miss sunny days when you wouldn't have to look over your shoulder for soulless creatures intending to consume your flesh, but on the flip-side, you can kill those bitches until your satisfied.
-Marsden- Electricity. If I knew I could get a working generator I would. I would not kill for it though.
- Wulfgar87- Books. I seriously doubt that writing and printing new books would be at the top of the list of To Dos for whatever(if any) society forms after the outbreak. Wouldn't kill for them.
-McSkullcracken-Pizza and a comfy bed. It may be possible to find them/make them, but unlikely. And electricity, definitely electricity.
-TonyPro- I predict that I will be forced to miss my family; all of whom are slow, pacifist weaklings.
-Toomin - I would definitely miss warm showers. I could go a while without and it wouldn't bother me too much. But after a time it would start to really bug me. No, I wouldn't kill for one though.
- AngelaB - Hot showers. Camp showers suck in a way that makes me think hell could be a real place. I'd be scrounging for the quietest generators I could get. I'd also miss feeling safe while I slept. I don't know that I could ever really feel that way in a Z world.
-DevilMayCrye-My Game consoles and quiet time to read my books. I wouldn't need to scrounge for a replacement, I would finally get to study the most interesting thing alive: Zombies. Only if people where threatening my research.
-ZEROFLY- The one thing I would miss the most is sanity. Believe me, this will be true for most or all of you out there. Sure, you may keep your sanity intact, but who's to say it stays that way for other survivors? Not only would I miss that, but I would fear all who lost it. They could pose more of a danger than the zombies. I would personally try to keep my S.Q.U.A.D. safe with song and booze. And if necessary, I would kill any who threatened that peace with their crazy paranoid ravings.
-DustinEchos104: I would miss crowds, I hate people for being stupid but I love anonymity that you get in cities and crowds, where you are just another person who gets to live their life, zombie outbreak, even if it doesn't kill everybody, would certainly put a stop to crowds
-Nightmare!-i also agree that it would be my sanity. Because zombies are Homicidal-maniacs. You're as good as dead [them] if you lose it.
-Hell_Razor- Being able to talk to another human being without worrying if they're going to slip into a coma, open their eyes, and try to tear out my jugular.
-Spraymachine: I would miss being able to move around without having to check for immediate threats. My replacement would be to move into the mountains, and yes, I would kill for it, zombies and bandits only.
KoffinKat:id miss being able to not worry that every second there could be something life threatening in my place of residence
KaikelX: I could play games with my lucky deck of cards, but if the zombies took it, I'd be pissed off. Unless I still had my replacement deck. And my replacement deck for my replacement deck
GrantHatman- Safe to eat food and clean water. I would put as much away as possible and replace it often. I wouldn't ever kill other living people for either of these things.
Gaudencio: Probably my game systems. When surviving it'd be a waste of time to look for new ones to play when I need to worry about survival. No, it's not worth killing for.
Cylon1994:
Comfort. I would miss the security and even then I would feel bad about me being one of the last people but that can't set you back. NO SUICIDES.
Renegade13: Hot long showers, fast food, and the ability to sleep without the fear of waking to find a zed chewing on your spleen. I wouldn't kill for it.
Taylor100550:
its been said be for sleep,gta4/video games/movies and my friends
TekkenDevil---My music. If something that could last me through a Z-war, is inspiring music of my choice. I won't have time to crave the Internet or my PS2/PS3 during the adrenalin filled days of the apocalypse.
-Spindled: Swimming / the beach.

Question#2) What is your worst fear in regards to the coming zombie apocalypse? Does it drive you to action? Do you take it seriously?

-Maricely: My biggest fear would be losing a member of my family (including husband and baby) or not knowing where they are.
-Captain_Bloodloss: I'd be scared that I'd wet my pants if a zombie caught me off guard and from that point on people would always make jokes like "Hey! Piss-pants!" and what not. I'd also be scared of barfing if I saw something too gross. People just wouldn't take you seriously after something like that.
-Deathvalley55: My worst fear would be if it actually happened. I would probably go "...damn, didn't really think it would". I do not take it seriously now, and I'm not driven to defend myself from zombies at this time (because for now it is a HIGHLY unlikely probability, and I'm ready for more common disasters), but if the time actually comes I'll be ready.
-Springatron- Loss... loss of life, loss of friends and loss of family. Yes and yes.
Z-daysurvivor:my worst fear would be um fast zeds I would be screwed and also i sleep in my boxers so if a zday came while i was sleeping i would to get all dressed grab my 2 guns and my B.O.B.
-Marsden- Being the first to get bitten, that would be very embarrassing. No real action I can take about it. I check the news each morning, that's as far as it goes.
-Wulfgar87- Being caught off-guard and being either one of the first to fall or not having enough supplies to survive on my own. Yes and yes.
-TonyPro- I would hate more than anything in the world to be that chick who let the monkey out of the cage--that is, it would suck to be the first zombie, to begin the necropalypse. Yes and no. Humans deserve to die.
-McSkullcracken-My absolute worst fear is that the zombies will/would be runners. I believe my odds of surviving would be drastically reduced. Yes, though not as much as it should( I am difficult to motivate). Yes, but I also believe that any breakout would not be likely, repeat likely, to reach more than a Class 3 outbreak.
-ironknight-my worst fear would also be that the zombies would be runners because if you up against a horde you cant try and run and hide from them as easily, and that the zombies could stay alive even if they do not feed.Yes and yes
-Toomin - My worst fear would be that I wouldn't be at home when it happened. That I'd be away from my family and unable to find them. I check the news for strange deaths or murders.
deadslayer69-my fear... sprinters; that would blow. Also being away from my war ready gear when something happened.
-Elvenoutrider - My fear, is that after all this preparation, ill die in some fashion before I get to use it, if I died fighting, it wont be as bad, but honestly my biggest fear is being shot in the back. The fight doesn't have to be physical, but I at least want a chance to defend myself or push through the obstacle.
- AngelaB - Being surrounded, alone, and without recourse. I don't know if I could make peace with the way the world turned out in those final few moments.
- All-Good - Getting in a situation that leaves me surrounded and all of my family/friends dead.I won't have a chance live. And I would have to start over in making friends.
- Hell_Razor - That my gun would jam.
-DevilMayCrye-Fast Zombies. It would make me want to make sure I have plenty of getaway vehicles and fuel for them. When zombies are involved, I take it very seriously.
-ZEROFLY- I'd have to agree agree with AngelaB on this one. Not so much for the being surrounded part, but being alone. Nobody to talk to or confide in when all the world is going to hell. That would drive me to the breaking point. Killing zombies and being surrounded by them is somewhat tolerable. But listening to their moans and cries in the dead of night, with nobody else around you to make you feel safe. That would be a mind crippling situation. C
-DustinEchos104: I don't really know, I think I fear bad people, I don't really fear zombies at all, yeah they would be a problem in the beginning, especially because people wouldn't really know whats going on or how to handle it, but they are brainless so we would win easily, but its people, the ones who are only law abiding because if they aren't they are going to prison for a long time, and they are smart
-Nightmare!: jeeze...um just the zombie Apocalypse itself..that's pretty frightening. But,Being stuck alone in the world. That would be the worst. [although, I'd thought I'd end up that way anyway.hm...]
-Spraymachine: My worst fear is that I wouldn't be able to sustain myself and those I am leading, protecting, providing for. I've always been a survivalist who wants to be able to live isolated from society if needed, mostly driven by the fear of not being able to support myself and others without society as we know it. Serious enough to learn how to grow vegetables, make things work without electricity, and learn how just about everything I encounter works (Howstuffworks and wikipedia are my favorite websites).
My other worst fear would be that my family got bitten because of my fault, and then they attack me and I would have to "dispose" of them. Also not being able to give them a proper burial/funeral. This is too sad to imagine....
KoffinKat: id have to agree with Mcskullcracken, running zombies would be a fear of mine, but my absolute fear would be zombies that still retained the ability to learn and retain information. after awhile they'd figure out any trap or barricades we put up. they'd find weak points.
KaikelX:My worst fear would be running into the zombie versions of people I know. I don't there's anything I can do about it. Besides saving their lifes.
GrantHatman- The death of my friends, family, and any one else who does not fall into either of the previous categories. It does. I do.
Gaudencio: Mostly the death of my family at home, I've a lot of family members that are too young to to protect themselves and would most likely die and they're too young to die so soon.
Cylon1994
All we as Humans have worked for. Science, Math, Philosophy and everything that tells us who we are. Look at how much pain and suffering it took us to get here. And we're going to have to go through it all over again, In different ways but still the same work. And all the while we're gonna know about it and feel bad.
Renegade13:Surrounded by runners and alone in the dark. yes and yes.
TekkenDevil---Finding myself alone in a claustrophobic place, hearing the moans of the monsters, not knowing which shadow my hideous enemy could strike from and when.
-Spindled: Runners, having the outbreak hit when I'm somewhere stupid (halfway home from work, for instance) and successfully creating some kinda fortress, and then having them bust the foundations / ramp up higher than I expected. I do take it seriously. Most of my family just ignores me if I make a comment related to zombies.

Question #3) What is it that gives you motivation to survive? Would you call it hope?

-Maricely: My motivation would be hoping that the zombies would eventually be killed off and humanity can try to start again.
-Captain_Bloodloss: I would want to survive more than anything to see if Mel Gibson survived the whole thing, then we could be buddies. Mel, if you're out there I hope you like that cottage cheese I sent you and I still wanna eat ice cream sometime.
-Deathvalley55: To continue on, to be compelled to remain, to keep going. Because in the end, that is all one can do. It is not hope.
-Springatron- My wife and son. Yes and no. I hope for their survival... It might just cost me mine, but that is okay.
-Marsden- To try and find out why it happened, and to let others know when it all ends what happened. No not hope.
-Wulfgar87- "To trudge: the slow, weary, depressing yet determined walk of a man who has nothing left in life except the impulse to simply soldier on."
-TonyPro- Living--no matter how rife with fear and depression it might be--rocks compared to the alternative. I suppose in that vein I could just pop a whole bottle of NyQuil.
-McSkullcracken- I want to be there when it is all finally over, I want to make sure that society is rebuilt, not replaced by some unbalanced system of bandit survivor types.
ironknight- my life and the life of my friends and family, and no i would not call it hope
Z-daysurvivor: mine is the basic want for life anmy former crap if it hasn't been looted >:(
-Toomin - Hope would give me the motivation. Hope that one day it would all be over, hope that what would be left was only the best in society, not the worst. Hope that we would be reborn as a society to respect life and each other that much more.
-ZombieEd101: My fear is that I would have to keep my entire family from being eaten alive or worse. They acknowledge the fact that I am a zombie fanatic and expect me to protect them if science becomes fiction.
- AngelaB - Hope and love for the family and friends I hope to survive with.
- All-Good - Same with AngelaB.And a place to go to. Like an evac center.
-Hell_Razor - The fact that I am a stubborn son of a bitch and wouldn't let a little thing like a zombie apocalypse get in my way.
-DevilMayCrye-Making sure everyone who have holed up with me survive, even if it costs me my life. Nah, survival-ism.
-ZEROFLY- What would drive me to survive? Living. Plain and simple. My goal is to kill as many of them as possible before my end.
-DustinEchos: Friends and pride, I'd want to make sure the people I loved made it through but I really want something that will put social Darwinism into action, because I'm really good at most things, I just rarely have any motivation, but undead trying to eat me would really get me moving
-Nightmare!: I don't call it hope.Living enough is motivation to survive
-Spraymachine: The people who will be depending on me to keep them safe. I would call it hope that we could create an enviroment that we don't have to live in fear in.
KoffinKat: well for me it would be as simple i cant just sit there and let myself die or suffer from starvation.
KaikelX: I really hate people who give in when they still have people to depend on. I never give up. Not now, not never.
GrantHatman- I want to survive because I don't want to die and come back. Once I am done I am done, and I don't want to be back to kill the people I want to save. I want to survive so that they can. Yes, there is hope.
Gaudencio: Survival is my only motivation and nothing more.
Cylon1994
Who else will do it? Besides I'm not gonna be one of those lame retards that shoots themselves so others can bear the burden.
Renegade13: Hoping to survive it out. And yes.
TekkenDevil---Nothing. I would just keep going, driven by some unknown purpose, even tho I might be scared shitless.
-Spindled: If I was protecting a child, or just some group of people, I could keep it up forever.

Question #4) What do zombies symbolize to you?

-Maricely: Zombies symbolize my worst fear. A life or death situation that I can't talk my way out of. FUCK!!
-Captain_Bloodloss: To me zombies are like classical music, both are really old and can drive you to insanity if you listen to them too long.
-Deathvalley55: They symbolize 2 things for me: 1) The worst case scenario 2) The ability for one to save themselves, as nothing can do that better than the threat of total annihilation.
-Springatron- That there are fates worse than death itself. It gets to the root of man's relationship with himself and the others around him. It also embodies man's fascination with death.
deadslayer69- stupid beasts to teach fat lazy Americans a lesson, For My personal killing pleasures.
-Marsden- Zombies symbolize the beginning of a new age, a new age of equality as the rich are stripped of everything they own and must take their seat among the poor.
-TonyPro- The sickening truth of Darwinism.
-Wulfgar87- Death. Indiscriminate, unwavering, unapologetic.
-McSkullcracken-A nightmarish force that could put a stop to many of humanity's petty squabbles...though it could end up being a permanent end.
ironkight- it symbolizes the end of everything but the dawning of an age of something new
-Toomin - They symbolize the fear of ourselves. That deep down there's something dark, something uncontrollable inside of everyone. Also that even after death we may not find peace.
-Elvenoutrider- a fate worse than death, not being able to think for myself, eternally tormented by hunger, forcing me to threaten those around me who I would have been helping protect.
- AngelaB - the very core of my worst nightmares. They symbolize an inexorable force that really has no interest in being swayed by any reaction humanity throws at it.
- All-Good - The zombie personality that's at the pits of our minds;UNLEASHED!
-DevilMayCrye-That it is finally time for gamers to put forth their strategic knowledge of all types of zombies and plans for defeating them.
-ZEROFLY- The core of everything we fear and all of the hate and evil that man is, deep down in the pit of our existence. We are beasts; animals kept caged up behind the bars of society and our own sanity. If one of those fails, we revert to the bloodthirsty beast we have always been, and will always be. In the end, a Zombie is just natures way of showing us what we truly are.
-DustinEchos104: They symbolize the weak and the unlucky, thats who the zombies will be, and it is important to get rid of them even though they may have been a working part of society
-Hell_Razor-An excuse to send a .223 round through the braincase of that fucker who cut me off at the interstate.
-Spraymachine:The possibility that humans may come up against something that they can't control or prevent. The possibility that a scientist will engineer a virus that is so deadly that it takes control of it's victims with the sole intention of spreading.
KoffinKat: A change in life. people today are too content, there willing to accept and go with just about anything. almost just like being in a zombie state. this would make people think for them selves and make their natural survival instincts kick in.
KaikelX: A universal threat to unite the world. I hope.
GrantHatman- They symbolize the end of a harsh and imperfect world and the birth of an even harsher and equaly imperfect one.
Gaudencio: The only creatures able to top us on the food chain.
Cylon1994
A means communicate on a basis that which everyone understand and appreciates. All the Zombie FPS'S, Games, Simulators, Friendship, Keyboard Clicks, Discussion, The Bringing together of people.
Renegade13:My worst fear/nightmare. Unmerciful, ugly, creepy, dangerous, and the thing that hides in the shadows of your mind.
TekkenDevil---Our natural selves. The naked, senseless predator that does not see the need for mercy, love or reasoning. Sin in a human body.
-Spindled: Like Gaudencio said. Humans moving down on the food chain.

Question #5) What is your current theory on their origin?

-Captain_Bloodloss: Bad toothpaste/mouthwash.
-Deathvalley55: Probably a bacterial, genetic, or disease mutation. Something along that line.
-Springatron- There is no more room in hell. This is our punishment.
-deadslayer69 could be religious or Bacterium, virus ill just wait and see, just prey to god its not airborne!!
-Marsden- Bacterium. Not a virus.
-Wulfgar87- Bacterium
-TonyPro- To this date, Richard Matheson has put together the most feasible and in-depth explanation to this--Vaccillus Bacterium.
-McSkullcracken-Whatever it is, it is scientifically explainable. Bacteria, virus, some sort of mutation...
-ironkight-a mutation
-Toomin - Bacterium.
-ZombieEd101: They represent our worst fears. Our fear of the inevitable death, what lies beyond death, being eaten alive, and the fear of our fellow man.
Oh, and when a zombie is about to eat you, you probably wont give a SH!& whether or not its a virus or a bacterium.
- AngelaB - prions! That Mad Cow impact on humans is frightening and the more I hear about prions the more creeped out I am by them.
- All-Good - The dead will rise for the Final Judgment.
-DevilMayCrye-Most likely some huge corporation screwing around with lots of diseases and viruses.
-ZEROFLY- Once again I'd have to agree with AngelaB. Those prions are scary shit.
-DustinEchos104: Virus, if it was a bacterium we could use antibiotics and if it was hell filling up then we are really and truly screwed
-Hell_Razor- Biological weapon. Think about it, a virus that exists solely to influence the host to aid in reproducing it. You could potentially lay more devastation than a nuclear bomb, without the damage to the infrastructure or leaving the area radioactive wasteland.
-Spraymachine: Humans dug a hole they can't get out of, made a virus too deadly.
KoffinKat:id go with virus or Parasite
KaikelX: Some late scientist had a really bad day when he accidentally dropped the vial. Notice the word 'late'.
GrantHatman- Infernal creatures that have died and have come to make us dead too, or the byproduct of genetic research by people and possibly aliens.
Gaudencio: Virus, Bacterium, it doesn't matter to me that much, not like I'd be the one to find a "Cure".
Cylon1994
Cherynoble worldwide
Renegade13:Bacterium/virus mutation/experimentation.
TekkenDevil---I only see it possible as the product of a reckless experimentation with viruses, let it be medical or Bio-Warfare.
-Spindled: Biowarfare gone wrong.

Question #6) Would it bother you to "kill" the formerly living?

-Maricely: I'd probably feel bad for the first one I kill, but then I'd get over it.
-Captain_Bloodloss: I would just have to constantly remind myself that I am so much better looking than everybody else and that if anyone should die it should be anybody but me zombie or not.
-Deathvalley55: No. It must be done. Dwelling on it will only cause pain.
-Springatron- No. It's me or them.
-ZombieEd101: "When your pushed, killin' is as easy as breathin'"
Plus, technically their "dead" so we wouldn't be killing.
-Elvenoutrider- I'd like to think it wouldn't trouble me. But I believe that i wouldn't be the only one here who would avoid it as long as possible.
DEADSLAYER69- I am going about this whole thing as a heartless slayer of the dead, no second thoughts, I will take pleasure doing it, you should as well, dwelling will just eat you up mentally and you will probably slip into a depression. In short : NOT ONE BIT!!
-Marsden- Probably at first, but I would probably get used to it.
-Wulfgar87- Nope.
-McSkullcracken-The idea of killing another human who is trying to kill me is not bothersome, so killing a zombie does not pose any mental barrier to me. You might even say we would not "kill" the zombie, but put it to rest.
-Toomin - It would be tough. But thinking about it I'd imagine the human they used to be would want me to. They'd want to be put to rest, just like I'd want someone to do for me.
- AngelaB - Hell yes it would bother me! These are the same people we used to love, hate, laugh with, laugh at, be laughed at by. That said, it would bother me less than being a Zombie.
- All-Good - It would depend on who I'm killing.Say I'm killing an old buddy.I'd probably hesitate and either kill or avoid. But if I'm killing some fool I hate,it'll be easier than breathing.
-Hell_Razor - Far as I'm concerned, it's either me or them.
-PalookaLord - No. I don't understand why it would impact people like that; "Oh my God I'm killing someone who USED to be alive!" I would likely build it up in my mind as some big video game experience. "Head shot! 1,000 points!"
-DevilMayCrye-Hell no. I would finally get to test out my psychotic urges. I might even act like Father Grigori.
-ZEROFLY- Although I like to talk a big game, it would bother me. Think about it, you're killing someone. They can't help that they turned into a zombie, and you're killing them. Although I guess it doesn't really matter. They are dead already anyway. It's just the thought of it you know? I'd guess after a while you'd get use to doing it.
-DustinEchos104: No, maybe the first time or two, because I have an over active imagination so I would write out their entire life's story and think how I ended it, but then I would remember that I didn't end it, they were undead already
-Darthius1: Heh,No Besides we're basically helping them, choose, Death Or...Being a zombie?
-Spraymachine:If I was convinced that they were no longer human, and if they were trying to kill me, it wouldn't bother me as much as I could "justify" the killings. In the end, it would still bother me alot and I'm sure I would have nightmares about all the humans reanimated I made more deaded.
KoffinKat: same as Springatron
KaikelX: I would shoot without mercy, but if I had to shoot someone I used to know and care for, or some little kid who deserved a heck of a lot better, then it would really haunt me for the rest of my life.
GrantHatman- Yes, but I would remind myself that it is better to be dead and at peace than to walk the earth eating the living. The fact that they are dead and can not feel makes it easier to do, but it wont be easy.
Gaudencio: Not at all, I know that they're zombies now and already dead. It'd be like killing a hostile animal to me.
Cylon1994
Not really, I have come to grips that they will be dead when I put them down. Essentially I am just depleting a dead man of Motor Functions so that he can finally rest in peace.
Renegade13:At first yes but later no.
Apocalyptic-Bob: I do not think that anyone, but the most deranged, could deal with killing the formerly-living without some kind of after-effect, most notably, PTSD.
Z-daysurvivor: For maybe 1 or 2 then id get my guns and shoot em up
TekkenDevil---No. I would understand that it is nothing but the armor of a human I once knew. They are dead. A dead man should not be mercied. What for? I WOULD however hesitate/shed some tears, when it comes to tackling the zombie remnants of someone very important, such as my girlfriend, but I can't see myself let them bite me instead of me shooting them.
