As per Pedro's plan, you need roughly 13,000 square feet to feed a person for a year. This however assumes an all vegetarian diet.
You will likely have some foods (canned goods and the like) stockpiled in advance, and/or scavenged, and this should include shelf stable meats like beef jerky, canned meats, etc. Since you are on the water you should also be able to add fish to this diet fairly easily, and if you can go ashore you can also trap and hunt for wild game. With your diet thus supplemented, you can provide AN ENTIRE FAMILY OF FOUR with enough staple vegetables to eat AND to preserve for the winter on just 2,500 square feet of growing space. Big difference, ain't it? |
