Alright, here we go, so its 5 or so years after the outbreak, Governments were unable to cope and now the world is over run with governments in secure safe zones like in Wold War Z. Cities that were abandoned are now crumbling wrecks with trees starting to grow through the streets and zombies roaming around aimlessly.

Unfortantly you did not make it to a safe zone, your in a remote part of the united states, thankfuly away from major cities or the government safe zone where millions of zombies are focused

But now you have a Different Challenge, to survive and rebuild

Ive listed my Idea before, but ill put it out again as a community topic
Its a town, Fortified, far away from cities, hopefully the only zombies you will have to deal with is random ones that just happened to wander that way.
ill lay out the basics that i have and leave it open for others to add on to

Ok First off the town

Its gonna be built primarily out of wood, with simple log cabins as the dwellings, perhaps later if we learn better carpentry skills we can make better buildings

Its gonna be surrounded by a wooden wall with spiked tops, Palisades for firing from, a secure gate, Block houses on the ends . its gonna end up looking like a frontier fort from American history.

alright now for who to have in it, what we can eat, what supplies we need, Government system, Justice System, Currency, Vital skills...ect (( feel free to add within these categories))

Who we Need/ Vital skills

Farming,hunting,Carpentry,Metal Working, Medical,gunsmiths,leadership...ect

I realize alot of these people are few and far between (example blacksmiths) alot of these skills are these normal survivors will have to learn on the way, but our ancestors did it when they carved a nation out of the wilderness and so can we.

Farming: self explanatory, we are gonna need food, and farmers are the best at growing it on a large scale

Carpentry: The towns made out of wood, to get beyond simple log cabins we are gonna need people who can work with wood and make advanced structures and improve fortifications

Metalworking: Blacksmiths, welders..ect whether its scrap metal we are melting down to make something new or just trying to put something together out of metal we will need these peoples experience

Medical: Having a few actual doctors in town will benefit us greatly plus everyone should be first aid trained ( doctors in town will hold lessons)

Gunsmiths: also another hard to find profession, this might be a learn as we go, but guns dont work forever we are gonna need someone who can fix them, also since itl be quite a few years since the outbreak started, the ability to manufacture ammunition in cunjunction with our blacksmith and metal workers would help, or least someone who reloads their own brass casings

Leaders: all this will fall apart without someone to lead it, in this scenario id be no leader, i dont have the charisma for it, i only have the ideas

Food/What we can eat and how


First off hunting will be a big part of surviving, we need meat to feed us and the furs to keep us warm and to trade, What we dont eat right away can be salted and stored.Prime game for where the town will be located ( idealy in the northern remote us, im leaning towards Montana) Will be Bear, Deer, Elk,Moose with secondary meat coming from rabbits, squirrels.

Farming: what kind of crops will grow up north? i know the Canadians grow wheat, so thatd work, Maine grows potatoes, so there's another hardy crop. also soy and beans would be good staple crops, individual houses can also grow vegetable gardens in the summer, these can be eaten right away or preserved for winter, Tomatoes,beets and cucumbers (once turned into pickles)are some good examples. also it may be hard to find fruit in the northern climates, but effort should be taken into finding acidic vegetables(tomatoes will work) or fruits to prevent scurvy ( its not just for sailors)

Scavenged food
The town will be away from major cities and suburbs, but Scavenging parties should be on the look out for Canned foods and the like



Government System

As much as people hate authority and being told what to do without it there would be chaos, the town will need a government, what type is best and how to run it, ill leave to you to debate

Government Policy

Religious Freedom unless apocalyptic subjects are referred in the present tense in any way this is to prevent cults from causing trouble and maintain morale

Bite policy, choice between suicide or designated cleaners( people that shot bitten for a living). Justice/Laws/Punishment

I have a few thoughts on the subject, the death penalty will definitely be applied in this town, used for serious crimes, murder and rape and once it is decided to go for the death penalty, 2/3 of the town must vote in favor

Punishment will be public, the town should construct a Gallows, this itself with be a deterrent to crime
Also have Stocks in the town square will be effective ( the old head and arms through the holes thing)

Laws and punishment (feel free to add)


Murder: Death by Public hanging or 50 lashes and Exile without supplies
Rape: Death by Public hanging or 50 lashes and Exile without supplies
Theft: 25 lashes and 5 days in the stocks
Indecent Intoxication: 3 days in the stocks



Vital Supplies

These are supplies that will be actively sought after through trade with other survivors or through scavenging
Tools (hammers, nails,Saws, Hatchets,Axes ...ect
Guns
Blankets, and winter clothes
Medicine ( bandages, painkillers , antibiotics, surgical tools, morphine...)
canned food
Alcohol and ciggarettes ( extremely valuable for trading )
Salt ( used for preserving, plus its required in a human diet)
Books ( fiction and non fiction. we will need to learn alot of old skills, hopefully some of them will be in books)
Farming tools( plows, seed drills....ect)
Building supplies ( Sheet metal, Corrugated steel, Plywood, Plastic pipes, lumber can all be useful)
