| Part 1: EQUIPMENT SUPPLIES FOOD and SAFETY (THIS IS A PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT) For a Full List of what is in my survival/med kit and main location BOB follow this link to BOB 2.0/+upgrade The way I figure it is- If you are still alive (and 75% of the local population are either zombies or being eaten by zombies) then once the zombies food source runs out there will be an abundance of temporary resources following an initial overnight Wanted: Snipers and Drivers , apply within! Part 2: BUG OUT/DIG IN This is the section where you usually detail how you will fortify and defend your current home/office/neighborhood/local bar/warehouse, and prepare your Bug Out Bag... BUT,
Since a natural barrier by way of tree line exists around the perimeter of both homes (5 acres), I will take advantage of this by adding several interlaced layers of barbed wire (readily available at both sites and local supply store) to fortify it, and if time allows, adding pipe and wire fencing on the internal side followed by digging trenches (using equipment readily available at both sites) and adding concrete filled stacked tires, sandbags and more barbed wire to reinforce walled internal perimeter. Forth and open side I will fence using similar material and procedure, but include a manned gate access for vehicle entry. I feel comfortable (having 24hr notice) that I could achieve minimally needed fortification to primary/secondary location and acquire enough supplies to live comfortably for months with a possible community upwards of 25 people. Back up Location: Vacation Home in Mountains If it is possible and becomes necessary to evacuate the state I have a family cabin on 3 acres that is large enough for my immediate family plus a small bunker-style shelter on the property as well that we keep stocked with food water hunting supplies, etc. Although the altitude and colder weather in the Rockies will take a bit of getting used to, the location is remote, has it's own water source, gas, solar power and waste disposal and is stocked with plenty of supplies. Part 3: BEYOND SURVIVING My take on Z-day may be a bit different than most and therefore my plans reflect as such. I will assume as previously mentioned that Z-day/Ground-Zero /patient 1 is not in my city and/or most likely state. I also assume that once multiple outbreaks occur, quarantine of the infected will also occur fairly quickly and then enforced quarantine by military. Followed by a massive media black out, military policing of cities and Finally the destruction of quarantined areas (nuclear) as last resort to save the remaining uninfected. I figure by these series of events Zombies will come and go, infected will be killed off, anarchy to follow and then the establishment of a dictatorship to restore order. So really I am looking at short term zombie defense, followed by bartering with local corrupt authorities and then long term E.O.T.W.A.W.K.I. (Book of Eli- style) survival. I imagine Resident Evil 3 mixed with I am Legend and a splash of Mad Max .... and of course we won't get all the infected destroyed or contained. But even if my predicted events don't happen quite in that order, I still figure on 1 major disadvantage for the Zombie Population: reliance on a limited food source + decaying infected corpses means TIME is my greatest weapon. On a long enough time-line the zombie mortality rate will be 100%. So basically I am dealing with post Apocalypse destruction, minimal population, dwindling food sources raiders on every road and in every major city left standing and the occasional zombie outbreak to ice the cake o' death so to speak! So here is the plan.... Once it becomes obvious that my small community hidden in the country can no longer scavenge for resources, and food found in local (possibly empty) cities and towns we go to Plan B. - Mobile Community. Pack up permanent BOBs and set out in Petrol/greasel/ bio-diesel powered vehicles, risking temporary danger to find a larger community that would welcome skilled survivors such as ourselves or at least scout to the next gas station with fuel, shelter and hopefully a supply or two. Judging by some preliminary research I have done on population density, weather patterns, military base locations and income/resource stats, it looks like heading North/MidWest may be the best bet for mobile survival. With out going into major detail, I plan on trying to scout small cities for more survivors first heading toward Lincoln, Omaha, Sioux Falls. Then West to Bismark, Billings and possibly Helena. Then South to Cheyenne hitting every small town in between but staying off major highways and of course being weary of ambushes and traveling raiders. I am fairly familiar with the whole Midwest and Rocky Mountain region so navigation and terrain are on my side. For now I figure on after surviving Z-day and the following (possibly nuclear) Apocalypse. Hopefully staying hidden and well fed during the transitional period to a new government, my community will have either flourished or have bugged out to find a new community that we can thrive in. In either case I have nothing but hope for the future as perseverance and preparedness will be our salvation. But just to be on the safe side here is a list of items (and skills) that are fairly common and inexpensive to obtain in today's world.... but will be worth GOLD for bartering after Z-day.
