Repairing a tireThis is a featured page

When it comes to the zombie apocalypse, small things that we take for granted today will be a major hurdle. For instance, a nail or screw in a tire that causes the tire to go flat, there will be no tow trucks or calls home to save you from being stranded. This will be a major problem when tires get worn, driving through debris on and off road, and just plain **** happens moments.

To put a plug into a tire is an easy temporary fix, that anyone can do. It will take time and require a tire plug kit and an air compressor or pump. I suggest everyone purchase a DC air compressor for their vehicles, they are small and easy to store and come in handy in a lot of occasions. Air pumps (foot or standing "bike pump"), will take a lot of time and energy to accomplish blowing up a car tire, it is possible though.

This is the tire plug kit I keep in all of my vehicles and have at least 6 out in the barn.

  • 8-piece kit includes:
    • One .41 oz. rubber cement tube
    • Five plug strings
    • One t-handle tire plugger
    • One t-handle tire reamer
  • Steps:
    1. Find hole
    2. Remove tire if needed*
    3. Pull any objects from tire
    4. Use reamer tool (drill bit looking thing), to clean out the hole and make it the proper size
    5. Place rubber hole plug half way through plugger tool
    6. Place a good amount of rubber cement on plug
    7. Push plug tool all of the way into tire
    8. Pull plug tool out, until a little of the plug comes out of the hole
    9. Cut tip of plug off with knife or wire cutter
    10. Apply a little more rubber cement
    11. Let dry
    12. Air up with air compressor, or air pump
This is suggested to be only used on the tread section of the tire, but in an emergency it can be used on the side to get you to a safe location where you can implement repairs with new or used tires.

*#2 if the hole is on the tread, usually you can get to it and fix it without removing the tire, that will save you time and effort.

Remember while adding a tire puncture kit to check your spare tire(s), jack(s), air compressor or pump, and mostly check to make sure you have a tire iron/lug wrench.

There are also tire patches that are used for larger holes and the sides of tires. They are more detailed to use because you must remove at least half of the tire from the rim, to apply the patch.

Repairing a tire - Zombie Survival & Defense WikiThis is a radial tire patch kit.

    To use it you must:
    1. Remove half or all of the tire from the rim
    2. Remove any material that is puncturing the tire
    3. Use the scrapper (silver disk), to rough up the inside of the tire
    4. Cut the patch to double the size of the hole
    5. Apply the rubber cement
    6. Apply the patch
    7. Let dry
    8. Remount tire on the rim
    9. Air up and hop that it holds and stops the link (some times it doesn't work, especially if the rubber cement is old).
Good luck and I hope that this information is not needed when there is a horde of zombies chasing you.

I made a page for tire plugging.

Those of us who grew up in rural areas have probably grown up doing this, but many haven't.

If there are any suggestions or things that you would like me to add to the page let me know.
