Well, the round has some good stopping power, and if you have 30 round mags, then you'd be using the same round with the same capacity as and AK-47, but I hear SKS is more accurate. Of course, it lacks the fabled reliability of the AK-47, and is an older design, but I hear good things about it. The AK-47, however, takes 75 round drums. Really you could carry both and have one type of ammo, using one or the other depending on whether you needed reliability or accuracy. SKS is cheaper, too, and there are a lot of surplus in the US, but they aren't really in production, are they? Well...just tell me your thoughts on this rifle and its use (particularly against rager zombies).

First of all, I was just promoted to Writer, and I plan to help as much as I can with the Global Survival Guide and will write fiction eventually as well as add articles and such.
Also, I'm thinking of getting a Ruger 10/22, but I need to know a few things. Owners' comments in general. What is the best kind of magaizine for it? What is a low-cost scope I can put on easily/is scoping a good idea?

Okay so there are a number of weapon types that are good for exterminating the undead. 2 Stand out to me.
Bolt actions and Semiautomatic rifles.i'd like to know what Bolts and Semis the rest of you guy like the best. and out of the 2 what weapon type which is your favorite.(bolt or semi) explain why you like said bolt or semi.Explain why you like bolt beter then semi or semi better then bolt. I like the kar98k and m1 Garand. overall bolts are better imo because it forces the user to conserve amunition, and because of the ease of fieldstriping.

So,what is it? I don't know much about the difference between Norinco, Yugo, Original, etc.SKS rifles, but I'd like to know what you guys prefer best and why. Which on is easier to use with banana magazines? Which one has the shortest barrel? Is that good or bad? Does red fiberglass look better, or standard? Is one easier to acsessorize? Which is more reliable? Which is less expensive?
I'd like to know about the versions of the SKS.

now this is just the pros and cons coming from a semi-experienced shooter.
AR... the AR is accurate but not very reliable if you know an AR system well and have accuracy and experience under your belt this is a better pick also fires (generally) a more powdered long range round for longer ranged shots. AK... the AK is inaacurate as a 5 year old with a sling shot also it's most common round can't penetrate at 1,00 yards due to a lack of powder. Now that being said it is an unstoppable rifle it almost never jams and if it did it IS your fault, bit it also has a problem with over-penetration at close range due to the rounds size. Talk freely this is what I know based on experience.

Im looking at getting my first personal rifle, and I don't really have much money. Advice on a cheaper rifle, preferrably no more than $700? I have experience with AR pattern rifles, but nothing else, so id like to stick to those, but i am willing to buy AK series rifles too. No .22 caliber rifles, I know they're cheap, but i need something with a bit more capability

I have been making lists of all the different types of firearms in the world, breaking them down into their respective classification (battle rifles, assault rifles, handguns, sniper/ hunting rifles, civilian, etc) but I have been unable to find the other stats needed to post them on to the weapons pages. If anyone would like to colaborate with me I think we can get a darn good list for people from all countrys.

I have thought about this weapon some recently. Scoped it would be a good sniper weapon, but the Remington 700 is better because it was made as a sniper/hunting rifle. It was known to stop the Japanese banzai charges, which are somewhat like a horde of rager zombies (no offense, I admire the Japanese as an orderly and honorable people), but that's with a line of American soldiers firing simultaneously. If your whole group has M1 Garands then you have a good chance, but just one is not so good unless your job is to pick off a few zombies as cover fire. As for shamblers, it might be a little better, but still...
I like it as a target and practice weapon, and it packs a punch, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with one come Z-Day.

I am writing a kind of zombie survival guide book for rager zeds and am making a list of the top ten guns for them. I take into account all the factors except price (reliablility (a big z-day one), avalability, ammo capacity, reload time, portability, etc.) and can't decide if the AR-15 or the Ak-47 should win. I know we've had this debate before, but I'd like to know. Rager z-day. AR-15, Ak-47, or other.

The debate rages on..
One one hand we have the most prolfic taker of human lives. and on the other...the most discussed weapon of the last century. They each have merits, both good and bad, and i would like some input as to what you think... AK47: truth be known, when most people think of the AK47 they actually are thinking of the newer AK 74 or one of its derivitives...most original AK47 have been used as spare parts for them and other AK based weapons( saiga 12, rpd, even the dragunov sniper rifle). the AK series of weapons has an excellent reputation for reliability, ease of use, and stopping power. the only drawback, and its a minor one, is its ammo. The 7.62x54mm round is actually very hard to obtain in the numbers needed to combat a zombie outbreak, so discretion has to be used when shooting wildly, in fear for your lives. couple that with its pitiful accuracy anywhere over 300 yds. and your run the risk of wasting your final shots and not hitting a thing. Over all the AK seires is very reliable and has the potential to be the last weapons on earth..as long as there is ammo they shall always be around. the american made M-16 has a rather tarnished reputation...for really no reason. the weapon was developed during the Vietnam conflict for use in jungle enviroments. as theM-16A1 went into service, propaganda was telling soldiers that it didint need to be cleaned...on top of a reciever that is not chrome lined and the poor quality of early 5.56x 39 ammo. it was doomed to fail... a As time passed the military constantly updated the weapon, incresing its reliability to that of any other assault rifle of the same caliber. The m16 maintains solid accuracy that ranges of over 500 yds. Stopping power, while not as high as the AK series, is still high enough to kill any living opponet.

Okay okay okay! i don't care about the "bullpup is better than" arguments, or vice versa. An idea came to my head, and google images gave it.
i typed bullpup mosin nagant and got this first: http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/attachments/powder-keg/24155d1248678128-54-bullpup-bullpup3.jpg its some bullpup .54 caliber single shot i think. Modeled after the WA2000 stock? Perhaps. now, heres a standard mosin nagant, and then a "space age" mosin pullpup: http://students.cis.uab.edu/tyallen/mosin_nagant.jpg http://www.cbrps.com/publishImages/Products~~element322.jpg Are you guys getting at what im thinking? Wooden thumbhole stock for the mosin nagants? I doubt this has been done. and if it has, show me. The idea seems.. like an OMG genius moment. and, if one of you happens to be a stock making/woodworking person, by all means take my idea. All i ask in return is the ability to either have one for free or buy one at a discounted price.. LOL. Opinions?

This weapon is extremely easy to modify and after market parts are readily available. As with all weapons systems take the time to understand it's use and maintenance. This Caliber is very small and one can easily carry thousands of rounds in a back pack or other mode of transportation. It will not stop a Z from walking or moving so well placed shots to the Brain case are essential. Research the "Deadly Triangle" aka. many other names. This is the soft portion of the face formed by the eye sockets and nasal cavity. This section used by snipers to easily access the brain stem and motor function sections of the brain at the back of the brain case. The frontal lobe will not be an effective kill a Z. Sub sonic rounds can be purchased and when coupled with a legally purchased silencer allows for the weapon to be nearly silent except for the action of the weapon. In addition to this Sub sonic rounds do not generally have the force to leave the brain case after entering it so the bullet will bounce around inside the brain case causing further damage. When coupled with a with a 22 caliber pistol one can also limit the amount of different ammo carried while increasing the number of rounds carried. This is the premier choice for a survivor on the move. In addition although often treated as a lesser cartridge. A well placed shot from a 22 caliber will also bring down big game and living humans very effectively. My grandfather killed many big game animals with a 22 up until it was illegal in our state. Puncturing the lungs or heart is the preferred method for killing living animals as the skull can be very thick on some animals.
