Ruger Mini-14 - Zombie Survival & Defense WikiThe Ruger Mini-14 is a semi-automatic carbine chambered in 5.56mm/.223. This particular rifle has an aftermarket ATI tactical folding stock (Available as a factory option).

The Mini-14 is a compact and lightweight rifle, made even more so with the folding stock. I've found it to be a very comfortable rifle to carry, I never got tired running around the woods with this gun.

The recoil from this gun is very mild, it doesn't punish even the youngest shooters. But the 5.56mm/.223 round it fires is still quite lethal (It is after all, the standard combat round for the US military). This is a gun that's easy to carry, and easy to shoot.

Reliability is excellent, the only problems I've ever had were from cheap aftermarket magazines. With quality magazines
this gun hasn't ever failed me, even through hundreds and
hundreds of rounds CHEAP Russian steel cased ammo
fired per each range session.Ruger Mini-14 - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

The Mini-14 isn't known for being a tack driver, and mine is no exception. It certainly is not the most accurate rifle I've ever fired. But I always found it to be more than accurate enough for my purposes. People worry about having 0.5 MOA from their guns, I don't believe that will make a difference in a shootout. Reliability trumps accuracy in my book, and the Mini-14 is definitely reliable.

I prefer the M1/M14 styling of the Mini-14 over the AR-15, and that's a big reason why I prefer the Mini-14. I sold mine because I wanted a fancy new Colt pistol, but I was smart enough to sell it to a close friend so I still shoot it on a regular basis. I'd recommend a Mini-14 to anyone who wants a reliable and handy 5.56/.223 carbine.
