SCAR-L and SCAR-HModel: Weapon name
The SCAR is one of the newest weapons available from Fabrique Nationale, designed for the Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR) competition of the United States military. The Mk 16 SCAR-L is a 5.56mm assault rifle, while the Mk 17 SCAR-H is a 7.62mm battle rifle. Production testing was completed in 2007 and the rifle was deployed in combat with the US 75th Ranger Regiment in 2009. The rifle has also entered the civilian market as a semi-automatic sporting rifle as the SCAR 16s and SCAR 17s.

While the SCAR-L uses STANAG magazines, the SCAR-H uses a proprietary magazine. Long, short, and standard length barrels are available for both variants. The Mk 20 Sniper Support Rifle is a variant of the SCAR-H with a longer receiver and larger barrel extension to act as a sniper rifle. Both come standard with a Picatinny rail on the top of the receiver and bottom of the handguard.
