SCRM's Survival Contemplations
Section 1: Survival - This section has three Parts depending on my location at the time.
- Part 1 - Work Place:
Should the 'Uprising' happen while I am at work (28.3% probability), the plan is to gather my fellow paeons together, or atleast as many as possible who are capable of moving stacks of pallets and other such things to block the entrances and exits. The rest will converge on the sporting goods and lawn and garden areas to gather up whatever we possibly can in the form of weapons to arm ourselves.
With the doors and other areas blocked, atleast temporarilly we will have time to assess the situation and decide who should go for help. On the inside, however, there are plenty of supplies, as it is a large store that carries everything from clothes to foodstuffs. Our group should be able to survive here, providing there aren't any break ins for a very long time.
My survival plan from here entails getting to my pickup, which I generally try to park as near to emergency areas as possible. Hopefully at this point there aren't enough Z's around which will get in our way. Once at my truck I intend to head to my base encampment, using back routes to get out of town rather than main roads. Luckily I know my way around the county rather well.
- Part 2 - Home:
Should the 'Uprising' happen while I am at home (43.2% probability) my course of action will be to assess the situation. I will do this by checking from my windows very discretely. My windows are kept covered at all times by blinds, curtains, and in several cases sheets of insulation.
Determining the state of affairs I will proceed to gather the bare necessities. My Mossberg 500 just to be on the safe side, and whatever pistol I have handy at the time. Those as well as enough rounds to make use of at the time. It shouldn't take much. I just need to make it to my truck.
If there are Z's roaming around the vicinity I plan to simply wait as quietly as possible until they have moved off, thus giving myself breathing room to make it to my truck. Providing I make it to my Dodge the plan here too is to head out of town, utilizing less travelled roads to do so. Trying to remain calm and observant will, hopefully, keep me from becoming a casualty or a meal.
- Part 3 - Base Camp:
Should the 'Uprising' happen while I am at my Base Camp (28.5% probability) then I'm in good shape becuase that's exactly where I need to be. Water (rural, but access to a well if the county resources dry up.), weapons and ammunition, food, fuel, and generators.
Section 2: Digging In
Once my family and I are safely at our Base Camp we will quickly begin to fortify our dwelling. It is a two story house built in the late 1800s. Very sturdy. An irony being it was once a Baptist church. Fortifying will be done using plywood, 2x4/6/8s that we are already in possession of. The windows are small so it won't take much to do this and the doors are just as easily remedied. With the resources on hand we could last out atleast a couple of months, if winter and minimal Zombie conflict. Zombie conflict should be minimal as it is a rural area fifty miles from the nearest -major- population center. But it never hurts to be prepared.
Section 3: Living
This will be a fairly easy one to adapt to. As we have fifty acres of farm ground the intention is to have a rather large garden and can as much food as possible. Deer are ample in the area, and there being pigs and cows not far away at other farms it might be beneficial to barter with the owners of said swine and cattle.
Bartering items could consist of food stuffs and/or bio-diesel fuel for needed items. Most farmers around this area use diesel powered equipment, as such, planting a large acreage of soybeans for fuel conversion could be a strategic advantage.

As with any plan there are holes. Sometimes they are small, sometimes significantly sized. Sometimes you just need a third party's scrutiny to help you refine your plans as they are all works in progress. So, I invite any questions, comments, or criticisms that any and all might have in the hopes that I'll be able to refine my plan from a rough 'work in progress' to the point of being a 'well oiled machine'.
