Kel-Tec SUB-2000Model: Kel-Tec SUB-2000
As the picture to the left demonstrates, the SUB-2000 is an interesting design in the world of pistol-caliber carbines. The SUB-2000 is primarily a cheap semi-automatic carbine chambered in two popular handgun calibers. What makes it unique is that it can fold in half; pull down on the trigger guard, swing the barrel assembly over the end, and latch it to the butt. When folded, the entire package is 16 inches long and can easily be fit into a backpack or briefcase.

Models are available accepting a wide variety of pistol magazines. The 9mm version is available in Glock 17, Glock 19, S&W Model 59, Beretta 92, and SIG P226-compatible variants. The .40 version is available in variants compatible with the Glock 22, S&W Model 4006, Beretta 96, and SIG P226 magazines. Police officers have been known to purchase the weapon to supplement their handgun and ease logistics. It's also popular for backpackers due to the folding design and plinkers for the low cost and simple maintenence.

Complexity

The fact that backpackers and police officers are fans of the weapon is a testament to their capability: they're extremely simple to operate, even for a new shooter, and aren't particularly picky about ammunition. The added muzzle velocity of the longer barrel also gives the carbine a power increase over handguns of the same caliber.
