Scenario 1
Let's start out with something very easy for our first one. I will set the conditions you give us feed back at the bottom of the page :).
Location
You are in a 1 story home without any barricades in a moderately suburban area, slightly urban but enough people to cause a problem. You can head north to some mountains. To south of you is the city. To the east there is the ocean with a marina. To the west there is flat farmland. The city has all the normal accommodations, a convenience store/mall all the normal city things. The mountains are slightly hospitable able to grow food but have harsh winters. The farmlands are very fertile yet out in the open and easily reachable.
Level of Outbreak
Its around a level 2, you slept through the initial stages overnight and there beginning to be quite a few infected in your area. It should be stage three in four days.
Equipment
You only have what you can grab on your way out. A small handgun possibly a 9mm or snub nose or something to that effect. A small box of shells. your house is accommodated with all of the usually household items. Nothing fancy the things a normal middle class person would have.
There you guys go I look forward to your ideas. The goal is to get to a safe place and hold out until either the duration of the attack or until military help arrives.
Edit by Zompat121: seriously guys dont add any extra stuff like "oh im gonna bring a crowbar and some non perishable food, and an M-16" or some other stupid stuff like that. Its a SCENARIO meaning that you only have what the scenario says all of the other shit should go in the BOB or weapons and gear page.
Maricely-- First and foremost, weapons are the main concern. Obviously that would include the gun and ammo. Other possible weapons: machete/crowbar/household knives, etc. Other things to take: Non-perishable foods/water/medical supplies/radio/compass/maps…the list is too long. Fuck all this “gather your friends and family” bullshit. Bigger groups are bigger chances of being spotted, plus more weak links. I can understand gathering your IMMEDIATE family, but anyone else is just dead weight. Because there’s only one gun for who knows how many people, a stop would be necessary to get more firepower. Personally, I’m going to the mountains. It’s the one terrain that is naturally anti-zombie because THEY CAN’T CLIMB. Obviously living here is going to be more difficult, but no one promised you a rose garden. Once in the mountain region, the next step would depend on the surroundings. If there are abandoned buildings, we could take up in one of those. Immediately set up security around the place, with 24 hour patrols if possible. Sending out a group of 2 every day would help to search for sources of water, food, and to plan possible escape routes. Someone is going to have to get good at hunting wabbits. After that, it’s just a waiting game to see if we’re rescued. If no one finds us and we run out of food or have to leave our place of hiding for some other reason, moving to a slightly more urban area might lead us to a group who is surviving.
SgtFlamingo:
On my way out the door I'd grab my assault pack. (I have one because they are large enough to accommodate a lot of things.) I also have a Trench Spike, so I'd make sure to grab that as well. Id gather the gun and ammunition and put one mag in, with the shells in the pack. Id next gather a little bit of food and a sledge hammer. My buddy has a Dualie Pickup truck with a king cab. With six other people we'd start on our way. First thing first is to "acquire" a big rig with a 40 foot trailer. It would serve as a mobile barracks and HQ. We'd travel first to a hardware store, get a rope ladder (Thats not hard to get at all) and cut a hole in the roof of the trailer, and then attach the ladder to the hole. A moon/sun roof can easily be put in the rig if it doesn't already have one. Also at the hardware store we'd get the supplies to makThat'se a latch on the inside of the trailer, so it can be locked from the outside when we are inside, and we'd still be able to open it from the inside. The hole and moon roof and ladder serve as a fail-safe system to evacuate the trailer, get to the cab, and drive, all without coming in contact with the Zombies. The Dualie will also have a moon roof or sun roof, so we can park the truck next to the trailer, and do the same. Next, we would travel to Walmart. Some would say "Oh, but Walmart will be over run!" Well, if its a level 2 zombie infestation, chances are, Walmart will either be full of zombies, or empty. We would back the trailer up to Walmart, and just dive on in. There we would collect all the guns and ammunition that we can. .22 Rimfire, .22 rifles, scopes, shotguns, shells, everything. Next would come the bows and arrows. Also, several knives will be taken, you can never have too many knives! We would have one of our 8 member crew also "acquire" a refrigeration truck. Two men in the Big Rig, two in the refrigeration truck, and four in the dualie. We would then travel from Walmart to Walmart, taking guns, ammunition, arrows, and food, if its a super Walmart. Yes, there is the inevitable fight. The rigs serve as perfect plows, drive over any and all zombies that get in the way. Also, several of us, (we already have the team planned out) are excellent marksmen, and we'd have an overabundance of weapons and ammunition. All of the vehicles would be diesel. Fast food restaurants would probably be abandoned, and the fry grease can be taken and easily turned into fuel for the trucks. With the massive amount of fast food places in this country, we would not have any trouble making fuel. We would stay in the city for some time, running errands and getting paid by the survivors to get what they need. Run a store of sorts out of the back of our mobile HQ and Barracks. We would absolutely not take in any more than our original eight men, then things would get sloppy and over complicated. When we felt we were satisfied with the area, we would move on, from city to city, state to state.
CrazyWhiteBread:
First off grab the gun and ammo. Raid home for medical supplies. Try to get out of the house as quick as possible. Call it a hunch but everyone and their mother probably is heading to the mall or Walmart. Probably not to eager to let outsiders in either. Gather your close friends and loved ones and here is how I would proceed.
First move would be raid a high school. Plenty of supplies no one thinks of. Chemistry department has magnesium and all the quasi-essential ingredients to make improvised explosives along with a library to research such projects. Sporting departments has abundance of protective gear and make shift weapons. Football helmets, baseball bats, javelin if your lucky! Shop class should have cotton mask and protective goggles along with drills and electric saws. Cafeteria should have a supply of food to feed hundreds to thousands. Most have a garden already established with veggies and fruits. Get your family and friends in there and start boarding up the windows and chain the doors. Start taking potting soil to the roof and start planting seeds in preparation of a long hold out. Auto-tech department should have all the tools essential to repairing the cars you brought or stole. Basically you just liberated your own fortress!
Once the school is secured it’s time to set up operations. Majority of your group should stay to prepare for assault and a long holdout. Small band of the fastest and most familiar with the area should break out for supplies that will perish. Take a school bus or minivan with three people who are willing to take this risk. They need to get water, food (and seed), medicine, guns and ammo, and scout for the closest herd of zombies or people. If you have access to a military surplus store I recommend stopping by. Boots, sleeping bags, tents, iodine tablets for water, first aid, hand radios, MRE’s should all be hot items to scout for.
Eventually you will have to fight. It’s all about planning. Get everybody to fortify your building. Barricade every door and window if supplied well. If not demolish the entrance way as to have one less point to worry about (collapse a hallway rather then defend it). Lots of desks and folding tables can provide scrap metal and wood. Should be a welding kit around somewhere to keep all windows closed. Bolt cutters in the Shop Room, start cutting up fences to make gratings over glass windows, weld ‘em down. Get your shovels and start digging a pit in front of points of entry. I advise 4 feet wide, deep as you can (ideal would be 6 feet). Idea is the weak points in your structure (thin wooden doors, numerous windows) to be a obstacle to get to. A huge pit greased with spent vegetable oil will prove a challenge to get out of. Pit fills with zombies? No problem! Dump used veggie and motor oil in the pit full of zeds and ignite it. Kill ‘em? Not likely. The fire should put out their eyes though. Call it a hunch but a zed going by touch, sound and smell probably wont be to much danger. Everybody armed with 2x4’s and bats should fend off a small attack. Stay clothed in protective material~! Blood will be flying when your hitting a zombie with a 2x4 covered in nails, keep any cuts covered in superglue and have goggles and masks on. RESUPPLY FOR GUNS AND FOOD OFTEN!!
Another idea with using everything is why not compost the Zeds? Steal a wood chipper and go all Fargo on the undead. I’m not a scientist but chopped up zombies will EVENTUALLY turn into dirt and not be infected. Prepare for the long holdout, only keep as many people as you can feed. Weak and feeble people will NOT be able to defend your safe house. You know how to proceed with that... More food you grow and steal the more you can house. More people=more defenders.
Phr33man:
I wouldn't head up to the mountains considering every refugee would probably go their. I would attempt to make a stand in my house. first i would go to the nearest store and steal as many supplies ammo etc. as I could. I would then look for salvageable weapons at the nearest gun store and maybe even the mall. then i would race home and build the best barricade i could only letting close friends and family in then wait it out. I wouldn't have to worry to much about the living crazy people that would kill for supplies because most likely they have left the suburbs in search for help.
-DEATHVALLEY55
Head out to the mountains. Not the mountains nearby, or a mountain people know about (i.e. Rockies), but some mountain in the middle of nowhere or with a couple houses. I would grab the handgun (the one that was available), backpack, canned food, water bottles, any construction tools available, and flashlight/radio/battery items. I would then go to the gun store if there was one, then the convenience store for further canned and non-perishable goods. Then I would go up to the mountains, as far up as possible (where housing was located: The highest house that can effectively hold plenty of people), as a cold climate is not a concern (I live in one anyways). After reinforcing and barricading this cabin, I would concentrate on surrounding houses, clearing them out early to prevent zombie buildup. When further survivors come, we would continue barricading relieved housing and then moving on to clear out further housing in the mountains. Not only will this prevent zombie buildup in a particular area, you will be well enough out of the way to prevent zombies from congregating. This also allows you to build a defensible and hospitable community for further survivors (making sure that none are bitten). Then you simply wait until the zombies decompose.
Springatron
I would want to head north to the mountains. As I headed out I would grab my pack throw the said ammo into it and grab a box and throw some food and water into it. 15 minutes later I would be making one last stop at my garage to throw the box and bag in my pick-up whilst snagging the chainsaw, axe and shovel. Now I drive to the nearest cabin situated as close to or above the snow line, commandeer it, and fortify. Thus the purpose of the axe, shovel and chainsaw. I would focus on the cabin first. If amiable survivors should arrive, I would welcome them, and we could than start scavenging the outlying farm houses and ranches. Hopefully find more arms, tools and sustenance. We would continue to fortify, depending on the time frame, we may not stop short of a palisade wall or motte and bailey. Wooden walls and earth mounds and ditches would make fine barricades for the undead.
If help is coming and the goal is to survive until it comes then I'd stay put and try to go unnoticed. The zeds are going to be following the food and the majority of the food is going to be fleeing the city in noisy cars. I may not have much in the house but id have more than if i chucked some stuff in a car and ran. Id start by using what i have to build temporary barricades (you said we didn't have any to start with, not that we couldn't build them) to block access to whatever room/rooms i plan to tough it out in. Id try to have access to at least one room and a bathroom. If the area has water towers and everyone else is dead or ran away you'd have water for a fairly long time after the power goes out or if no water towers you could at least fill your tub if you have one. I wouldn't try to barricade windows or doors because any work or movement near the exterior walls of the house would probably be noticed by the zeds. If there's an attic then whatever room has access to it is where I'm putting all my supplies to start. Once I feel I'm fairly secure ill start moving all i can up into the attic. If there's no attic then id try and rig a way to get up onto the roof from whatever room i pick. If my plan to go unnoticed fails and the zombies find me then id haul all i could up onto the roof via whatever method i came up with before they break the barricades. After that it'd probably just be a waiting game until help arrived or i decided to make a break for it.

--ShotgunMan
I live in an area like this, and have been planning for this very situation, so here it is. This was different, but things have changed, and so I've changed my plan:
First, I would take the 9mm (obviously) and as many blades as I could find (my trusty folding knife and some sharp kitchen knives) and pack a bag with food, a lighter, any first-aid materials (in case of non-zombie related injuries), a sleeping bag, a flashlight, an axe, a shovel (not one that's too big, more like a 3- or 4-foot handle), a cell phone, a radio, money (just in case, and could be used for burning), and a book or two, my Game Boy and some paper & pencils for my amusement. I would then gather up a small group of people and tell them to grab whatever supplies they can get a hold of. We would first move near the city to the nearest convenience store for any further supplies (. more food, water, batteries, etc.) as well as any nearby gun store for weapons, ammo, and (if there was any) melee weapons.
We would then head for the mountains either by bike or on foot; cars would attract any nearby zombies in the urban region. But we would only stay near the edge of the mountain region so as not to be overcome by the harsh weather and to stand a greater chance of being found by any military assistance. In this area, we would try to find a building to hold up in (i.e. a church) located in a sparsely populated area in the mountain region; if none were to be found, we would build a shelter made from any trees we could find and mounds of dirt using the axe and shovel.
At night, people would stand guard in 2-hour shifts in groups of 2-4. Come morning, those who stayed up would sleep as late as they pleased.
If we ever ran out of supplies (or were running low), we would move out and try to find a small town nearby with only a few zombies, clear it out, and take any supplies we could find and find new shelter (like a house or barn.)
We would hold out wherever we were until we heard word of survivors or aid on the radio, at which point we would use the cell phone to contact aid (it would be off most of the time to conserve battery life); or if we used the phone to get in touch with someone who is capable of providing aid.
If help did come for us within a week of our initial setting up shelter, I would let the group go with the helping party; I would take any supplies and weapons I could, find a car, possibly bring someone along, and just wander the earth, seeing how bad things were, helping others and cleaning out some unfriendly brigand survivors. If help didn't come within a week, I would leave anyway first chance I get, with some supplies (leaving the rest with the other survivors) and start wandering, looking for help, other survivors, or whatever. If things got bad, or I was running out of supplies, or I got bored of wandering, I would head back to the survivors and wait it out with them.
That's what I would do, anyway. Whether or not it works, we'll have to wait for the zombie apocalypse to find out.
- GunnerGraye:
Residentmagnum:
I got a few guns and there is a heavy police presence in the area
The police would be the first to die, so when possible I would just kill a zombie police officer
Some of the police have switched to a sigsower which is an odd round but it should get the job done. then clean the town up. I got a bad leg so if I'm boxed in I'm dead if i run out of food I'm dead.
If the infection is bad enough that a nuke is on the way the city already may be quarantined i would go down fighting even if that were just one zombie.
there are construction crews and hardware stores so there is no real need to travel to a large mall where the zombie threat will be at its highest threat.
car loaded with 1/2 a tank of gas so possibly makes a larger explosion then a car with a full tank so i would try to set a few traps. I don't need to get to a mountain just a local water tower one way up with two ways out rescue or death
after raiding a vacant gun store or a zombie neighbors home on my way there i should have some kind of sniper riffle living in Michigan where a 1/3 or more of the people are hunters or know someone who is. car dealerships will have some cars. gas stations may still have gas.
TNT or other stolen explosive could make an interest 4th of the July explosion. Many will be killed or hiding in cars hospitals police station or there own homes after make a map and deciding on a plan I must leave my home for a better shelter like a water tower or other high place and ammo.
Sofar i have followed the rules only what i have or grabbed on the way. I also have a basic plan.
Get in the car and drive. the car sucks so i can't run over two many zombies.
I avoid people for many reasons but the main reason is what if they are on the verge of turning.
I took no food, and i have a 2liter of sprite with the hope of finding more supplies soon as most likely it will be the day before i go to the store to resupply.
two boxes of ammo for a 30/30 and a 22 both are riffles along with both riffles I also take a hunting knife, crow bar, machete, matches, lighter, one change of cloths a wash cloth, a survival book, my boots jeans and even if it is not cold take a heavy winter coat. the ideal is it can be worn, it has pockets, may help when being bitten, help when back pack or other carry object from rubbing your back raw. Denim is tougher than cotton maybe help or if you gotten chaufs(cow bow leather pants) the boots are for when you need to kick or stomp the zombie or zombies back to death.
Don't forget zombies burn easily so I'm told when possible burn them with cooking oil or other flammable oils and a match or light.
Some doors are harder than others so a crowbar will help when resupplying. i may use a bottle of wd-40 in the trunk of the car
the newest form of larceny in crash and dash a helmet and air bags help if not drink to the point of being drunk so you go limp like a crash test dummy this way when you need something you can get it with minimum injury. nuke might be on the way so why not drive a fancy car around.
Scene it is hide, kill, rescued and then killed. I choose to fight and to kill as many zombies as possible. with my supplies i might drive to a bus lot and use a buss, or better yet a bulldozer. I'm a faster learner.
if not possible go to the police station hold up in a cell with as much food as possible-could starve to death
Byates:
Only level 2, hole up in my house. Barricade the doors and windows, convert sticks and poles to skull pokers, make a hole into the attic area, move self andsupplies into the attic, be very, verry, verrry, verrrry quiet. When supplies are down to a comfortable load to carry, move out of house. Go to school bus yard and borrow bus and several cans of fuel. Block door on bus, plywood, sheet metal etc. Should be able to run down zeds and push a path through what is in the way. Enough time should have passed for the local threat to have shrunk, no food for zed, so they should have mostly left. Perimeter should have been established and cleanup in progress, or completed. Head for smoke, sign of clean up operations.

I would head for the Marina (in fact, my own area is somewhat like this and we have a plan that involves the yacht club... a former prison with 12 foot walls and a single land based point of entry). Typically a marina will have a number of yachts, some of which are well stocked with supplies, all of which are capable of leaving land and going to an island with no people if needed. Hell, some of the yachts in this area are capable of round the world journeys. Of course, if the marina were to be the lake type then it would be a case of heading to the mountains and finding the most defensible location possible (preferably a cave of some sort with open areas leading up to it, for farming and for perimiter views). Either way, the gun, as many makeshift weapons as possible (in my home right now there are several swords, some boken, a few staff's, a variety of knives of both the kitchen and weapon variety, etc.). Any canned food (logically) and any fresh food that will keep unrefrigerated for a little bit (fruit, veggies, meat that hasn't been in the fridge for too long) and my travel cooler with all the perishables I can manage, plus the ice packs. Also, I have a travel stove and pots and pans that match it, mini tent's that can be fitted in to the car quickly. I think that here in Nova Scotia most houses have most of this equipment (we had a period of frequent blackouts recently plus our first ever hurricane a couple of years ago, people have started to take survival seriously).
ZS207
I would head to the farmland and build some earthen walls about 12 ft. high with stairs so people can walk on the wall. Farm.Shoot.Farm.Shoot.Make weps and ammo.
BirdbrainX
I would head for the Marina too.
Firstly, I dont have handguns of any sort of firearms, so i would get a home-available cleaver as primary weapon.
Secondly, a can of Zippo fluid, rope or any sort of cable would suffice, some dry rations(primary food that doesnt need to be cooked or expire anytime soon), pocketknife, lighter and matches if i can find em, water containers, backpack, warm clothing, flashlight and batteries, portable containers for storage(pickup some food along the way, or for extra water storage, etc), and a warm blanket(which can be torn down to make extra roping, etc), a medic kit(painkillers, antiseptics, some bandages, etc), a small mirror, and my handy compass(which I always carry)
Thirdly, a thick pair of pants or jeans, T-shirt, headwear of any sort(vs the sun), thick shoes or boots.
I choose the marina, as its more isolated than the mountains, all you need is a functional boat with oars(nothing fancy as those require fuel and electricity). Since i'm not exactly a sailor or any sorts, I wouldnt be able to navigate out to sea or anywhere really unless its a lake or river. The Marina serves a number of functions, easy to clear bodily wastes whenever you need. The option for moving off else where is always present, unless you're in a swimming pool( haha ). Since the Zombies dont swim, as they most likely would walk underwater. They cant thread water to reach my craft either.
If all seems lost, there's always an option for sucide or take your chances out in open waters.
Cipher234
I would call some of my closest freinds and tell them to get to my house with all their food water and generally useful things they can carry. We would then make or way to the marina. I would hire acaptain o a medium sized ship (20x60 feet) and sail about half a mile off shore with a radio keeping intact with someone on shore and keep tabs on their situation.I would only land when we need supplies.
Bfish
I would use tin foil to cover up all windows to keep any Zeds wondering the streets from noticing anybody inside. I'd lock the doors and put chairs propped up against the doornobs. If I got down to a week's worth of supplies before help came, I'd head for the farmland, taking all the food, water, ammo, guns (if I aquired more somehow), lighters, tin foil, and Bibles I have, and head out. If there were any small stores that looked empty and showed no signs of forced entry, I'd stop there. I would avoid large malls, because it has been sed in movies as an idea and will be the first thing unprepared and probally infected people will think of. I would find an small, empty home in the farmland that showed no sign of forced entry and hideout there. They should be in good condition, so as long as I keep quite and hidden, I should be able to farm a small part in the center of some plants that grow tall like corn or wheat well. After that, I'd just wait it out.
MrJuly
Simple, precordinate a meating area somewhere out of town with trustworthy and compitent friends if you havn't already. Use any social netwroking site you are a member of already to find prepared people in your area. When the situation occurs and you have met, preferably in an area of low population density, head towards a commercial center. Do not head north to the mountains as groups of survivors survivng in the wilderness is not very realistic. The city, too, will be bad for obvious reasons. I'd say a costco or a wallmart. They both carry food in bulk as well as tents, ply wood, basic tools, etc. Secure all opening and establish your actual base on the roof. Well insulated huts for winter - tents for summer. Non-frozen food should be moved to the celing as well and the only access to the ceiling should be a ladder that can be brought up with your group at night. Early mornings - scope and clear store of any hostiles. Late morning focus on improving defenses in any way possible. Afternoon should be spent on the offensive - hordes of zombies may move at random - if this is the case the commercial area will no longer be flooded. The srious problems may occure if the city zombies start heading north but if that happens hold tight and let them flood in to the "safe mountains". Your group should always burn the corpses of those they kill and while "hunting" always make sure all orphases are covered. Cutting a zombie in half is cool until the blood spray gets in your eye, ear, or mouth. You will probably be able to fashion some kind of bite proof armor from material within the store, but being mobbed is still a serious issue. Always travel in light packs with a days ration and never retreat to your safe house if mobbed. Always out run and double back - if it means your life then you take solace in knowing that you did not risk others.
Akenokuro
I would go with Van's plan, Take whatever worth while equipment, tools, food and farmables and go for the Farmlands, plus where there's Farmlands there has to be a farm, some lumber, and the right constructions turns a farm into a fortified zombie base, and with some survivors, and a vigil on all points could be made, taking out many zombies before they even reach the building.
Howidoit22
First off id go and call my closest friends and tell them to meet me at my house. while they come id tell my family to get ready to leave. i own a rifle so id grab that and all my ammo, canned food, water, knives, and my blade. id pack all of them into a backpack and id go into my car as my friends would come and all of us would go to the farmland because we could easily reinforce the farm and grow food. also if theres survivors there we could use their help also. the land is open so it makes it easy to see incoming zombies and me as i own a rifle could easily pick them off from a distance and i go to a firing range like 3 times a week so i have the training. id barricade all the windows and doors and wait out the outbreak.
ikillzeds- i would get in my car lock all the doors roll up the windows and drive with my left hand pistol in my right hand ,i would head to the nearest costco which is only about a half a mile from my house . once there i would look for something to barricade the doors with maybe shelfs or desks or beds anything really. once i did that the second priority would be to check for all other entrances once i barricaded them i would look around and kill any zombies i see that are in there.once thats done i would set up a radio on the roof and broadcast for any local survivors to come to the fron and i would set up a ladder for them to climb(assuming the undead cant climb).once i found sorvivors and checked them for bites i would set up some beds and get all the food i can and bring it up to the roof and i would get some help to get some beds/sleeping bags up there. once thats done i would get hunting supplies guns ,bow and arrow, crossbows e.t.c. once i have all the supplies i need for about 3 weeks i would barricade the door that leads up from the costco so we would be basically 100% safe i would maybe hand out guns depending on the mental stability of the survivors and put out some more broadcasts and say that i have uninfected survivors on the roof of costco in the montgomeryville area in pennsylvania, one i have done that i would paint on the roof, help and etc and then the only thing to do would be wait for military to come or just wait the outbreak out !
-sobnob
I would get all the supplies I could find in my house(food, water, pistol, map, radio, batteries, flashlight, ammo, first aid kit, backpack), then head for the farmland. There I would find a barn set up a shelter and barricade all entrances. I then would just wade it out until the military came to clean up their mess that I am sure they made.
shadowdoug-
i would head to the marina. after grabbing all the ammo, food, batteries, first aid kits, books ect. on the way there i would stop at the local convinient store to grab some more supplies. now im on my way to the marina. once there i would try to find a boat that has like a second lower level or a covering. then i will "barrow it", and in return i will lend him a bullet in the chest. now that i have all that i need i will go out about 300 yards or so and wade anchor. next i will take a raft back to shore and head to the local walmart to pick up a rifle with a longrange scope and ammo and some other stuff. next its off to the marina to "barrow" another boat. now i will take this to theother boat and tie them together. now i will just wait it all out!
GERGBEEF-
i would carefully gather a small amount of the basics: gun, ammo, food, water, axe, and some medicine. then i would proceed into the mountains, since the G's freeze solid in the snow. once i reached an area with good visibility of the mountainside. then using the axe to cut wood i would establish a base camp preferably within an already existing cave. i would definitely go it alone or with one or two people. any more than that is asking for trouble. after about three days i would silently sneak down back into the city to raid the area for supplies and material to further defend my base. then i play the waiting game.
Dmurl5-
Well, for starters I would grab the crowbar that every sane home has. Using that as a primary melee weapon, I would head out to the farmland. Once there, I would raid a famer's house for a weapon. Every smart famer has some type of hunting rifle or shotgun to scare/shoot wolfs or cayotes (Spelling?). Once I obtain this weapon, I would scavenge some farmland for edible crops, draw water from a well, and head for the mountains. After I get there, I would for a cave or a cabin, fortify it, and wait a few weeks. After this amount of time, I would start to scout the surrounding areas for food, water, and survivors.
Farmboy74
Isn't it obvious!. Stay at home. Barricade some windows, some doors. Put all available supplies in the loft/ attic. Place a few signs in the windows proclaiming " DEAD INSIDE ". Survivors ain't going to tangle with the dead. Forage a few houses nearby, but don't stray too far. Ration your food and water. If house is overrun, move to the loft. Make it safe, you don't want to come crashing through the ceiling with zombies or desperate survivors in the house. Only after a few weeks when the initial panic has died down, its time to leave and head for the coast.
Sporezombie: I would drive to the mountains for as long as i could with my bug out bag and call my friends i'm sure still alive and tell them to meet me there as soon as possible. Once we are all together we would live off the land and what ever provisons we brought with us. Sleeping in the trees we would be safe. Aftera week of hiding we would raid suburban homes for supplies then keep retreating back and forth only dealing with zombies when they get into the camp area. Once we picked the suburban areas clean we take every thing with us and we move to a secureable building and maybe find some survivors and we start signaling help with signs and a raido broadcast that broadcast a help signal every hour and we broad cast a informative report to everyone who may still be out there to help them out. The builiding most likely may be a hotel with the stares broken to the first floor. We would conserve ammo and do anything possible to keep us entertained till A: help arrives or B: The zombie leave the area or winter comes and we leave to find a prision and fortifiy it to last a while.

First and foremost, I'm taking my But-Out Bag. Based on what I would have, It would contain these:
Once that's done, maybe I'll look for any survivors on my street, especially ones that can man a boat. Since there's probably four or five undead there, I won't have time for a thorough screening like I've always planned, but quick scan should suffice. If they don't have blood on them, I'll take them. Probably only three of four people of varying age, gender, size, and abilities. I'll then quickly get to the mall or convenience store on a bike or motorcycle (traffic will suck), buy anything else I can find that would maybe be useful later, then head to the port. I'll quickly steal a good-sized, well-stocked yacht and leave my band of survivors there. I'll head to the nearest Starbucks I can find, get at least 5 Cinnamon Dolche Lattes, gather any information I can, then head back to the yacht. We will then hang out half a mile from shore. If we see any survivors, I'll do a thorough screening, then let them on. Check my profile for the rest.
Spraymachine:
Assuming I'm the Average Joe and have nothing fancy laying around, here is how I would prepare in under 2 hours:
Lay out all these on my dining room table:
gear: backpack (3000 cu/in), camel back bladder
toiletries: toothbrush (cut off most of handle), toothpaste, 3 boxes of floss out of box, contacts, spare glasses, baby wipes in baggy, non-scented deodorant, half roll of toilet paper in baggy, sunscreen, Q-tips
vacuum seal machine
weapons: What ever gun I have around and ammo.
food: meats, nuts, crackers, vegetables, apples, bananas, cream of rice, assorted canned goods, rice, honey, PB, corn flour, tortillas,1/2 cup salt, dried milk, tea bags
tools: 50' nylon cord in 4 parts, ducktape, leather man, 5" fixed blade, magnesium fire starter, 2 lighters, 20 strike anywhere matches, binoculars, first aid kit, 3 black garden trash bags, bottle of hand soap, iodine drops or water purifier pump (fits nalgenes+camelback mouths), LED flashlight with red filter, digital camera, spork!, sleeping bag with bivy sac, SW United States road map, compass, sowing needle, signal mirror, pen/small notebook, stuff sac, 10 5" nails, space blanket, hand held AM/FM radio w/ ear plugs, extra batteries for flashlight/radio, hiking poles, 3'x7'Tyvek sheet (plastic barrier) for ground sheet, backpacking cooking pot, 5"x5" sandpaper, sierra cup, cash
clothes: 3 pairs socks,Nylon hiking pants with zip off legs, synthetic long sleeve under shirt/pants, warmrain pants/jacket with hood, hiking boots, hat, beanie, neoprene gloves, sunglasses, bandanna
Assembling the pack: I'm packing this like a true backpacker... Reduce as much weight/space as I can by emptying containers into plastic baggies and small bottles. Take the floss out of the packs, put it in a bag with 10 q-tips, suck all the air out and seal. Cut off half the toothbrush handle to save space/weight. Vacuum seal foods into meal sized portions and seal cut apples and bananas. Mix 1xPB+2xhoney+2xcorn flour+powdered milk to taste to make Joe's Moose Goo. Put all my clothes I'm not wearing into a stuff sac then put straps until it can get no smaller. Pack bag as best as I can and ditch any low priority items that I can't fit. Everything should fit if I pack it right.
With this pack I would hop in my car, throw my bike in the back, and head to my safe place in NE California. 41°22'0.32"N, 1121° 1'12.89"W
George Romero's Baby Response to Scenario #1
A mildly populated neighborhood is going to be a problem. You might be able to hold out for 2-3 days tops before the infection rate increases. By that time, 20 is possibly going to turn into 75 or 100 zombies. Barricading yourself into a situation like that is going the route of Harry Cooper. I'm assuming most of the members of this site would be prepared ahead of time for such an outbreak. But keeping within the confines of the parameters, I would immediately head south to the city. I would locate a sporting goods store as well as a Walmart type store. I would grab the following items (keep in mind, at this point, you've slept through the night, it's not a full out riot in the streets yet, but the shit is starting to hit the fan. Martial law will be initiated probably within 24-48 hours of the outbreak. Law enforcement on the streets will be nil. You should be able to smash and grab most of this stuff with little ramifications):

Trancecore:
Woke up in asingle-story suburbia, four days from level 3.
Alright. I'd grab a backpack and stuff it with non-perishables and water. Fill a duffel with a few tools, batteries, a radio, the ammo box, and some other miscellaneous items, holster the 9mm [assuming there is a holster], and partake in a nice perishable meal to get my energy up before heading out. First west to the farmlands to get away from the chaos for a moment and settle my nerves. Then when I feel ready, I'd head south and cut a line through the city to grab whatever I needed, and maybe some allies, and head to the coast. From there, I'd head north along the water toward the mountain region. That is where I'd dig in, hopefully along with fellow survivors. Though, if we couldn't find any abandoned cabins, etc, I'd improvise a camp. Cut down some trees and allign them with the vertex at the high side of the mountian, then dig a small trench on the inside of the vertex, dig another trench on the outside of the vertex to reduce the risks of snow, etc being pushed over or zeds/animals crawling over the tree barricade. On the low-side of the mountain, between the ends of the tree barrier [maybe 3 trees long on each side] would be a spike-pit of some sort [deep trench with sharp logs sticking up].
And to those of you who don't agree with me cutting down trees, I'd of course be planting new ones to replace the old ones, so don't pro-enviro-murder me. XD
The group could live off the land and whatever foods we brought from the travelling, and I'm sure we could manufacture some sort of housing situation with all the extra lumber. Not to mention the added protection of using the rope as a boundary between the trees behind us, further helping to keep out the zeds. And whenever it seems they've filled up the pit enough, throw in a few small branches and light it. Provides warmth, disposes of the corpses, and lets people know you're there [zeds will see the flames, too, but that's a good thing. More fuel for the fire!].
Miller38
My plan would be to gather up all none perishable food Items and take them to the back of the house and block
off the hall with the dinning room table and a couch get the gun and ammo and a hammerthe axe and the shovel. Take apart the beds in the house and use the frames toblock off windows and back doors except one but gaurd that one heavilly so I can get out for supplies do that and go through that entire neighborhood then
search for weapons, ammo, food, water anything useful get back to the front of the house and chuck all but the
9 mm and any rifle and ammo I found and search for survivors. after searching for survivors assuming I find any have them gather supplies after giving them some kind of weapon and while there gathering supplies I look for boats at the marina then after gathering all the supplies I colud load up the boats I found and wait it out on the ocean occasionaly going back to land for supples. there's my two pennies thanks y'all peace!!
Thrawn5:
I would start by going into the city (sounds a bit dumb, but you need weapons) and get some guns and basic supplies, if possible I will get a large u-haul truck and fill it with supplies (guns, ammo, cinderblocks, rebar, food, farming stuff, anything that strikes my as usefull), I dont really care if I max out a credit card or three, this is life or death. Then I will head out into the farmland as far as I can possibly go and start building a fortress out of the suplies.
I hope that I would survive, that is about all you can do in that sort of situation.
Dooran: I would head to the marina with as much of that non-perishable food as possible, a hatchet and a crowbar. I'd also grab a couple of the longest screwdrivers I have because they are SHARP. Then, I would load myself (possibly someone else I trust) on board a boat, and float our as far as possible while still tied to the docks with the longest piece of rope I have and drop the anchor. I'll float there, just beyond their reach for as long as I can, and if I run out of food, I'll have to make some excursions back into the suburbs to raid other homes for what is left. When they run dry, if there is still no help, I'll have to either try my luck at fishing, hunting in the mountains, or moving closer to the city. But the mountains would probably be the best bet.
Dominickmagas:
I would take the gun and some money, go into the city, (i know) and buy a rifle and as much ammo as i could, if it's overrun, i would try to loot a rifle. Then i would go to my house, get together a pack with survival stuff, food, med kit and supplies, and drive my truck to the farmland, but still close to the mountains. On the farmland, you can see zombies from far away, but if there are too many, i would go into the mountains and survive as best as i could. Also, i might run to the marina, chop off like the first 5 feet of the dock, and the sombies wouldn't be able to get me, i'd have a large area, maybe buildings if it's a fair sized marina, and the zombies couldn't get near me.
Well hopefully I would live by my self so I wont have to worry about family I would get as much of this equipment as I could:
My gun
All the ammo
A crowbar or hatchet
Mabey some tools like a hammer/ screwdriver
Purification tablets
Water
Preserved food
Flashlight (I have one that can be charged by winding it)
Sleeping bag
Swiss army knife
Hunting knife (if possible)
Radio
Then if the fram land has a very small population but is still populated I would go there, (try and find supplies) and then if the outbreak gets larger i will probably go to the mountains.
-Blackrider
-Fomorii-
First thing i would do is try to grab these items from the surrounding houses and my own:
the rest in the backpack. grab my immediate family ( who have similar packs) and head towards the farmlands once there i find a nice wide open flat farm w/ farmhouse and hole up there untill the outbreak is eliminated if the SHTFi'll be able to see how many Zombies are within at least 3 miles radius. while im in the farmhouse i find a hunting rifle with 70 bullets i take 50 and give the magnum to my brother to hang on to. if too many zombies are coming my way i'll restock up on food on the farm (farms have alot of non perisable food on site from what i know) and head towards the mountains their i set up camp and wait out there untill its all over. from my vantage poin i would be able to pick off any zombies in the area with the rifle before they get too close and if they are in my immediate area use the magnum.
Nosfera2:
I would take only the pistol the bullets and a duffle bag of hand tools for use if i run out of ammo and head toward the city sticking to the shadows and remaining as quiet as possible to avoid any unwanted attention using the hand tools such as the hammer or crowbar ive packed i silently and quickly make my way to the mall once inside i search for survivors that have holed up there and try to convince them to come with me while in the mall i find the gunshop and loot a 12 gauge shotgun and a 22-250 rifle and a scope 3 boxes of bullets for each i take the survivors and head out i go back to my house and keep only the ammo and the crowbar in the duffle bag and fill it the rest of the way with can goods ithen head to the farm while there i take out the now zombified owners and loot what i can including a shovel and a few other items that can be used as wepons i then head back home and arm the survivors and head for the mountans i use the shovel to creat a trench then i slowly but surely chop down small trees with it i throw the wood in the trench that surrounds us and dig a hole in the side of the slope about 8-10 ft in or as far as possible until i hit rock i use braches to make a sort of cammoflage in front and hole up sniping zombies as they head up the mountain and taking out the onces that get in close with the gauge after 3-4 weeks losing hope of rescue and running low on ammo me and the remaining survivors head to the marina and look for a boat steal it and hope we can find a secluded island hopefully without undead
Nexus_Oblivion:
Unfortunately I havent created a bug out bag yet so I would take the 9mm Handgun with the bullets, along with any other foods (whether non perishable or not) to my car. Depending on whether I have alot of or lack of food. I would head to a food store and gather any supplies that I can quickly get. I would head to the marina as my plan is to say on the waters. I wouldnt be to far out, just enough for me to see whats happening in the area.
Torread0912:
I'd take the gun and ammo, find a suitible mellee weapon, all the food I can carry, any explosive chemical I can find , batteries, PVC, my collection of electonics/parts, water, shirt, shovel, my knife, and a radio. I'd run outside, yell to see if any of my nieghbors are not zombies(if they're the slow zombies), and head for the marina. When I get there, I'll take out all the zombies, assuming that they are in small groups and slow as hell, then set up a perimeter. Using the PVC, batteries, chemicals, and electronics, I would make some make-shift claymores, and set them around the perimeter. My car will be constantly gassed, and accesible. Over the next few days, I will set up various traps/pits and board up all windows and doors. The marina is bound to have a radio system, so I will try to contact any survivers. If zombies ever breach my defenses, I will escape in a boat with water purifiers (which I find or build using materials in the marina), fishing pole, extra fuel, and my supplies and head to a location with no possibility of zombie infestation.
Ternar:
first off i'd take the 9mm and the shells. after i grabbed those i'd grab the hiking packs i have and stuff them with the following:
1.boxes of ramen noodles.
2.SPAM
3.packs of bottled water
4.toilet paper
5.stainless steel kitchen knives
6.flint and tinder box
after all this its off to my garage to find my shovel, machete, fire axe,bow saw, and other handheld tools that might pop up in my head. once i had acquired all these i'd be hauling ass towards that pasture.i'd do a great deal of digging and chopping in order to make a small "fort" like structure. this would a require a good 2 days worth of work. after words i'd be salvaging any pieces of wood (tables ect) to take to the "fort". if there was still time i'd rush to town in my Ford F-150 to raid my local armory and military surplus stores(usually located near a highway in a small shopping center). after that i'd prolly hang tight in my home made bunker where zombies are easily spotted and dealt with. all in all this would take me less than a week to accomplish! so by the time its an all out outbreak ill be nice and cozy.
lord awesomefirst id get the 9mm and cleaver from the kitchen and then call all my friends tell them to bring their friend along with truck supplies weapons and camping equipment id then start loading my pickup with supplies then we would drive toward the farmland while picking up anyone along the way and start building a camp out of cars and tents we would also plant seeds from the crops around. we would then send a raiding party out once a month night of the living dead style that would look for survivors and supplies and kill zombies

The_wicked_one
Seeing as the scenerio deosn't say that you can get equipment from other people, i'm just going to stick with what i have, even though i could get all kinds of crazy shit from the people i know. First off, i would grab my the 9mm (can i have an m93r? Pleeeease?) and try to rig up a bullet belt that could hold all the bullets for me(possibly just a fannypack, anything that will keep the bullets easily accessible). I woudl bring my favorite melee weapon, the survival grade machete, probably black as to not expose a possible glint of metal that would give away my position. Taking a survival pack (the ones that have the bedroll and backpack combination) carrying enough condensed soups and canned vegetable to last me at least a few weeks, i would make my way, with 2-3 friends, into the mountains. I dont believe it was specified what time of year it was, so im going to assume its summer. Over the course of the summer and fall we could make trips back into the city, possibley picking up survivors and getting the supplies we would need to make a shelter we could survive the winter in (to be perfectly honest i wouldn't want more than 10-15 survivors with me. It might mean less help, but it also means making less noise, needing less food and water, and having less chance of infighting). I'm not sure how far away the farmlands are, so im going to assume we could walk to them at dawn and be back before nightfall. If no one is currently there, we would harvest crops from there to eat. If crops hadn't been grown, then we would plant something, depending on how much area there is the plant on maybe beans, corn, and tomatoes. If there was someone there who was already planting, all the better. We could join forces and act as two small cities, bartering for supplies and increasing both of our chances of survival. Havning two distinct groups of people working together would give us a high probability of having a variety of experts in several areas helping.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rhemora
I would get the gun, the ammo, my always handy pocket knife, my motorbike outfit(good for keeping out bites) and head towards the farm land, the zombies would most probably be drawn towards sources of life which at this point would be the mass amount of people escaping to mountains or city, with the farm land you would almost certainly find a bush basher(pretty much an old hardy ute that can survive a lot of hits) Id find the keys or hotwire it, wouldn't be too hard if you had the time to try each of the wires since in all honesty you wouldn't have to worry about the alarm going off if you were far enough away from zombies, once I got the ute going I would keep it ready to go and just go to wherever was least occupied that had any natural protection and fertial ground
I would grab all my ammo, as many books as I can, grab the shovel, pick axe, crowbar, axe, as much food as I can, including veggies, and a backpack, and move to the farmland while I still can. There, I and any other survivors begin making walls ditches and AMMO when not planting. After a while, we begin foraging into towns and the city. -Sgt.Schultz
I would take the gun and ammo, the usual fortification/melee stuff like the axe and chainsaw and shovel and go to the farmlands with anysurvivors who have not been bitten I can pick up along the way. The food growing is absolutely necessary and the open fields can help us see zombies BEFORE they come, so it is more of a blessing than a curse.
vanrulzz.

13th.Casualty:
First and foremost, I'm taking my But-Out Bag. Based on what I would have, It would contain these:
- Handgun and ammo
- Bottled water (2)
- Canned meat (2)
- Canned vegetables (2)
- Swiss Army Knife
- A Batteries (1)
- AA Batteries (4)
- AAA Batteries (6)
- 9 Volt Batteries (2)
- Binoculars
- Book/Magazine (2)
- First Aid Kit
- Matchbox/Lighters (3)
- Compass (I already have one on my watch)
- A complete set of clothes, including shoes, underwear, etc. (2)
- Flashlight, either those shake-up ones or the hard and heavy MagLites
- Laser pointer
- Leather gloves
- 15 feet of rope
- Pen/Pencil w/ eraser
- Notebook
- Medical Supply Kit (keep in mind the number of people with you)
- Pocket Chainsaw (look it up)
- Magnesium Fire Starter with Flint Rod
- Hiker's GPS Unit
- 16 pound case of MRE's (30 day food supply per person)
- SAS Survival Guide & Survival Kit (Size of a Altoids Tin)
- Sleeping Bag
- Emergency Radio & 20 Mile Walkie Talkie Set
- Portable Battery Generator (Solar or Crank Powered)
- Hiker's Backpack
- Rifle & Ammunition
- Warm Clothing & Hiking Boots

A single story house, middle class and in suburbs. Four days to class three outbreak. lets get going.
Well first things first, we call the team. Actually, me and some guys from around town started talking about this sort of thing in real life so I'd like to use them. After the call has been made, I pack up. What I grab is as follows. The other members of the team should have about the same as I.ExceptJohn insists on lots of guns....
• Hikers back pack
• Water bladder (full)
• Extra water
• Non-perishable foods for about a week of strict rationing (no cans, they weigh too much)
• Purification tablets and a level three water purification pump
• Hand crank radio (miniature)
• Extra set of clothing, including heavy coat (two sets of clothing)
•Magnesiumlighterand 20 strike anywhere matches
• A shake up Flashlight
• Fist aid pack (includes ointments and other common treatments)
• Two flat bladedknivesabout 6" in length
• Titanium crowbar (weapon and tool)
• The 9mm pistol and ammo (silencer if I can get one)
• Bolt action rifle with 50 rounds (again if I can get a silencer for this I will)
• Bolt action rifle with 50 rounds (again if I can get a silencer for this I will)
• Max brooks "Zombie survival hand book" and "World war Z" and the worst case scenario book (if I have room and time. I have many more books that could be used in this situation like books on medicine, common herbs, engineering, gunmaintenanceand others but I'llassumeI have read them by now)
• My music player and some way to power it (I know a dumb choice, but if it mean I keep what's left of my sanity, well then it's worth it)
I would meet up with the rest of the team and we would head out towards the farmlands.Sparselypopulated and easyaccessto food and shelter. Some of those farmhouses are made from solid wood, and multi leveled. We would useavailablematerialsto fortify our new home then work on a high fence around a patch of the farmland made of timbers about six feet high to slow down zombies and refugees. If things look grim and a horde of Zombiesappearon our front steps, we would go up the stairs then destroy it.Utilizingan escape plan ifnecessary. The rest of the survival would come from Max Brook's books on defending your home.
Anysuggestionson my survival plan, please message my account. Thanks
EliotR: What I would bring:
Fishing rod, and fishing rod accessories.
4 packs of tin foil and clear plastic thing like tin foil
A large bowl
A slightly smaller bowl.
Lots of buckets
The gun
Solar oven
A journal
A billion pens
1 pound of salt
binoculars
leather tool (90 tools in 1 or something)
Skinning knife
A block of pot
goggles
lots of sunscreen
Plates and silver ware
4 packs of clothing
bathing suit
(1x for every person who is coming)
I would pack everything/one, and then drive my way to the marina. Steal a sail boat, and sail out a couple of miles and then just wait the thingy out. Collect rain water in the buckets, catch the fish, cook them in an oven. Keep a daily journal, and salt makes everything taste better, goggles for swimming, plates and silverware for eating, and clothing for changing.

First thing i would do is try to grab these items from the surrounding houses and my own:
- Crowbar
- Spam ( lots of it if possible)
- hiking boots
- My mess kit
- My swiss army knife
- Magnum w/ bullets
- 40ft of aluminum foil
- watch w/ compass
- jerked beef
- salted pork
- Backpack with exterior frame
- 2-3 novels
- Flashlights w/ batteries
- Extra batteries
- SAS Survival Manual
- 1 weeks worth MRE's
- canned veggies
- dryed fruit in a bag
- medium sized med kit
- 6 books of matches
- wool blanket
- 2 full changes of clothes
- duffel bag w/ strap
the rest in the backpack. grab my immediate family ( who have similar packs) and head towards the farmlands once there i find a nice wide open flat farm w/ farmhouse and hole up there untill the outbreak is eliminated if the SHTFi'll be able to see how many Zombies are within at least 3 miles radius. while im in the farmhouse i find a hunting rifle with 70 bullets i take 50 and give the magnum to my brother to hang on to. if too many zombies are coming my way i'll restock up on food on the farm (farms have alot of non perisable food on site from what i know) and head towards the mountains their i set up camp and wait out there untill its all over. from my vantage poin i would be able to pick off any zombies in the area with the rifle before they get too close and if they are in my immediate area use the magnum.
