Honey
Hony simply does not go off. Even without the jar its good for another eterinity. Many people think that honey is bad when its hard, its not. Archeologists have eaten hony from pharophes tombs, 3,500 years old. Caned food/tins They last for many years. By the time these go out of date you should have a sustainible farm. Tooth care. Not a food but important. Soot from a fire can be used (its better than toothpaste) and if none is availible salt water works as well. Any Ideas on long term food is appreciated.

Yes, by beloved, I mean the Twinkie. The cream filled pastry, un-opened from the packaging will be good and moist for 20 to 25 years after its been manufactured. Oh, and Honey will virtually last forever if the container is unopened. Not the healthiest, but those both are sure tasty.

One should not underestimate the psychological effect of candy, especially chocolate. On a long hike, even with enough food, something sweet to suck on (lollipops etc) or a piece of chocolate could increase the mood and inspire to make that little extra effort that may save your life.
