Scrounger 6This is a page for reference of drugs that may be found while scavaging.

Included are effects, contraindications, doses, and appearance
This is a work in progress and as i have time i will continue to add to it

Aspirin(acetylsalicylic acid) is an anti-inflammatory analgesic drug, meaning that it is used to kill pain and inflammation. It is also used for its anti-platelet effects, meaning it helps to prevent clotting. Contraindications include bleeding ulcers, large bleeding wounds, or G6PD, a rare genetic disorder. In these cases a more reasonable medication would be Acetaminophen or Tylenol.Aspirin

Typical dosage is 300 mg no more than 3x a day.

Zmax(Azithromycin) is a broad spectrum antibiotic that kills bacteria by interfering with their ability to make proteins. Its effects work very well against several bacteria, however now is the best time to remind everyone that antibiotics have no effect against viral proteins or viruses. It is contraindicated by allergy to azithromycin or erythromycin. When contraindicated, a better choice would be metranidazole(see below).
Typical dosage is 250mg daily for 3 to 5 days for children or 500mg daily for 3 to 5 days for adults.

Flagyl(Metranidazole) is an anti-infective medication used for treatment of infection by vulnerable organisms, usually anaerobic(doesnt require oxygen) bacteria or protozoa. Drinking brackish water can lead to amoebic dysentery, which can be cured using this medication. Contraindications include allergies to metronidazole or pregnancies in the first two trimesters. <<<<WARNING THIS MEDICATION IS NOT TO BE TAKEN WITH ALCOHOL, AS IT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE EXTREME SIDE EFFECTS.>>>> Typical dosage is 250 mg 3x daily for seven days.

Valium(Diazepam) is a benzodiazepam derivative hypnotic and sedative. Its primary uses are extreme calming properties and can be used to still shaky hands by slowing the heart rate. It is fairly addictive and so should be used sparsely. It is contraindicated by known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to diazepam. In these cases it may be possible to substitute Klonipin(clonazepam) but this should be carefully monitored. Dosage is usually 2mg 5mg 10mg
depending on resistance and ability to withstand the medicine. A suitable dose for stressful situations should be 2mg as any more for a non tolerant individual WILL slow them down significantly.

Dulcolax(Bisacodyl) is a stimulant laxative which means it prompts the intestinal tract to move fecal matter along. I realize this sounds like something of a joke, but severe constipation that can occur from poor diet or medication can be a killer in critical moments, and when occurring in conjunction with other medical conditions can seriously compromise the body's ability to care for itself. Dulcolax (and any other stimulant laxative) is contraindicated in the following cases; hypersensitivity/allergy to Bisacodyl or buffer ingredients, appendicitis and severe abdominal pain or cramping. Dosage is typically 5mg to 15 mg in tablet form orally with at least 500ml water. Suppository dosage is 10mg suppository anally.

Multivitamin and multimineral supplement This is a rather simple medicine to get a hold of but a critical one. With poor nutrition from scavenged food and the possibility of less sun exposure, the human body will have less access to the nutrients it needs. This is often overlooked, but the likelihood of scurvy or other nutrient deficiency disorders is high post Z-day. I will not include a picture as appearance varies from brand to brand

Tobramycin
ophthalmic solution is an antibiotic eye drop used to kill both streptococci and staphylococci bacteria in eye infections. The eye drops typically consist of 3% Tobramycin with the remaining solution being buffer usually composed of saline boric acid and other inert ingredients to balance PH. This can be crucial in combat situations, as these bacteria cause Bacterial Conjunctivitis(Pink Eye).
While a mere bother in our current lifestyles, the matted eyes that result could be deadly, and the ease with which this condition is spread causes concern for close quarter living spaces. Tobramycin is contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to any ingredients included. Typical dosage is 1 drop every 4 hrs until improvement occurs, then for 24 hrs afterwards.
