Smith & Wesson SW9VE (Sigma Series) 9mmThis is a featured page

SW9VE

The S&W SW9VE pictured above can be bought easily for $350. Mine came with 2 16rnd. mags, a gun lock, and a hard plastic case. Some how I managed to haggle a couple of boxes of ammo to come with used for 300. I have fired about 1000 rounds of Winchester white box 9mm Luger ammo through it since I've owned it. It had one stove pipe jam when my Fiancee was firing it, I think it was due to her not holding it steady through the kick (her 3rd time shooting) coupled with the cheaper ammo I had gotten with the bundle.

All in all not bad, my only gripe is that it has slightly poor accuracy in my opinion. The rear sight is supposed to be adjustable but has no way of locking it in place, causing you to have to readjust it time after time. On the up side, This weapon is super easy to use and maintain, being almost a direct copy of a glock hand gun (I think). It has no engage-able safety, it does have a trigger stop built into the trigger though. Its a breeze to break down with no tools but a good pocket knife. The frame seems to be holding up well, I was hesitant to buy it because of the polymer frame but it wasn't intended to be a main weapon any way.

I say only; only accurate at 15-25 yards, built well enough for plinking, it looks like a gunsmith could easily modify it if they wished too, and lastly its a good starter pistol to train some one with.

7/10 overall
4/10 accuracy
2/10 weight ( 10 being heavy )
8/10 ammo capacity

SW9VE stripped
(disclaimer: I'm medic to the core, I'd rather be saving than shooting. Which is why I bought a "cheap" reliable side arm)

The S&W Sigma has proven to me to be a reliable, yet inaccurate firearm with several mechanical design failures that make it less than ideal. The trigger is a slingshot design and unlike the Glock the Sigma has a hefty 8-10 pound trigger pull that at best can hinder accuracy. I have no problem with the pull weight as an experienced shooter, but my girlfriend (a Japanese import) had a severe issue with the trigger. Take it to a Gunsmith? Not likely, many won't even touch it and most will tell you it can't be lightened. The ones who say it can be lightened will charge you an assload and return a gun that has a 1 or 2 pound difference.

On the plus side, this gun will fire every POS amunition brand and then some, I've never seen mine jam. The gun was around $300, so the price is great. I haven't treated this gun in any way other than abuse, and still no jams. Something must be said for that. I've gone out of my way to perform "tests" heard about in urban legends (covered in mud, buried in the sand, etc..). The gun still performs solid, but as I said, not accurately. I haven't smacked it with any hammers yet, just because parts for this thing are not easy to find, and aftermarket parts are even more scarce. The rail system is not standard so forget adding contemporary lasers and lights, which is a real negative for me as I think any weapon to be grabbed when the shit hits the fan should have a good flashlight attachment, or at least the ability to take one. Can it be accurate? How much patience and practice you are going to put into the gun. I've never had the want to make this my sidearm, so I'm as accurate as I am with any weapon, which is the basic qualifying standard of the US Army.

A good starter gun, which is what I ended up using it for. I gave it to my girlfriend, I said if she could learn to qual with this, I'd move her up to a better gun it took 2 years, now she has a Kimber.

Would you recommend this for someone buying a 9mm for the first time?

I own 2 Walther P22's and a 9mm Beretta but I don't ever use it or shoot it. It's basically my girls.

Anyhow, I am definitely buying a 9mm and .40 in the next 4 weeks and I thought you did an amazing job on this review.
