Springfield XDModel: Springfield XD (HS2000)
The Springfield XD is the more commonly-known American marketing name for the Croatian HS2000 handgun manufactured by HS Produkt (Springfield Armory, Inc. produces the XD as a licensed version). The original HS2000 was based on the PHP service pistol that was plagued with various quality issues due to the ongoing Croatian War of Independence. Upgrades continued until the release of the HS2000 in 1999, which continues to be used as the standard Croatian military and police handgun. In 2002 Springfield Armory negotiated licensing rights and began to market their own copy, the Springfield XD (Xtreme Duty).

Both the HS2000 and Springfield XD have polymer frames with steel inserts for strength and lightness, an ambidextrous magazine release, a trigger safety similar to the Glock, a grip safety similar to a 1911, and for the .45 ACP models an optional ambidextrous thumb safety. The .45 ACP model can be found as a compact model and the .40 and 9mm models can be found in subcompact versions, perfect for concealed carry.
