Steyr ScoutModel: Steyr Scout
While many know this rifle only due to its inclusion in Counter-Strike, the Steyr Scout is an excellent sniper rifle design intended to fill the roll of Colonel Jeff Cooper's "scout rifle" concept. As such, it looks rather small and short for a "sniper rifle", but that is not the purpose. The purpose of a scout rifle is to act as a general purpose rifle that can be used for hunting, survival, sniping, and self-defense in combat. In all requirements for a scout rifle the aptly named Steyr Scout performs admirably. The .376 Steyr round was developed along with the rifle, which is the largest practical cartridge that can be used in such a light rifle. An interesting note is that the gun has a secondary magazine well in the butt that can be used to store an extra magazine.

The successor variant to the Scout is the Steyr Elite, a more robust model designed mainly for law enforcement; the Elite features an extended Picatinny rail to allow for conventional or scout-style scope mounts, a larger bolt handle knob, and an adjustable cheek piece.

Where to find

The Steyr Scout's popularity in Counter-Strike has brought it more into the limelight, but with a price ranging from $1500 to $2000, it's not a weapon for the casual buyer.

Complexity

As a dedicated scout rifle, the Steyr Scout is designed for action out in the wilderness and combat. As long as it's kept clean, a Scout will likely never fail on its user. Disassembly is extremely simple and only requires the bolt to be removed.
