Dehydration Posted 5/3/09 3:01 pm (pst)
Dehydration is the removal of water (H20) from an object. In humans Dehydration is caused by a number of things some which include prolonged physical activity without the consumption of water. , and prolonged exposure to dry air. A few other causes of dehydration comes from diarrhea
vomiting, and the consumption of alcohol in place of water.
2% loss of water - Thirst occurs, slight discomfort
5% loss - You become groggy, or sleepy
10% loss - Muscles become spastic
15%< loss - Usually death, or permanent repercussions
Heat Stroke Posted 5/3/09 3:26 PM (PST)
Heat Stroke is really called hyperthermia and is caused when the human body produces or absorbs more heat than it can take. Dehydration can also lead to hyperthermia due to the lack of liquids which regulate the body temperature. Hypothermia symptoms are similar to that of dehydration, with in inclusion of erratic heart behavior. If a member of your group shows the signs of heat stroke or hyperthermia you need to reduce the body temperature, change cloths. DO NOT wrap the person in wet towels or anything of the sort because this will act as insulation and increase the temperature of the body. If hyperthermia goes untreated it most likely will result in death by a number of ways.

Keep in mind that zombies may not require sleep or rest and newtons First Law of motion when planing out a ZEDS movement.
Newton's First Law of Motion:
- Every object will stay in motion in till acted upon by another force.
So a zombie will be able to travel the above distance only if it is not acted upon by another force. Thanks to: PedroAsani
Issues for discussionAs with the winter survival pages there are some issues that need to be addressed.
Issue 1 Discussion ends 5/9/09The first issue would be the matter of supply runs. During the summer temperatures can reach well into the triple digits, so this leaves the question if you are going out for supplies what precautions are you going to need to take to ensure that your teammates don't die on you? Or, for that matter, that you won't drop like a fly.
Issue 2 Discussion ends 5/16/09
This weeks issue deals with the movement of the undead.
You choose to build up a base in a small town. There is little or no undead around. Your supplies are getting low ZEDS from the surround area have begun to realize where you are at and are knocking at your front door. The heat is rising and is now about 101 Degrees (F). What can you do to stop more dead from approaching while re-stocking your supplies?
Issue 3 Discussion ends 5/23During summer there is one majorly important thing to remember, hydration. If do not stay hydrated many things can occur including heat stroke. This weeks issue has to deal with water. Where are you going to get it? How will you filter it? Keep in mind creeks have a tendency to dry up during the warm season.
Issue 4 Discussion ends 5/30
Fire: this is a depressing issue that can cause the destruction of your base. Fire can be a naturally caused eliminate depending on where you decide to set up your base. This may be more severe than other places. Forest fires are more severe during the summer when the sun is beating down and it is hot. Different elements can create fires that are more severe. This weeks question is this, What is your solution to stopping fires from reaching or occurring in your base?
Issue 5 Discussion ends 6/6/09
Raiders, they are one of the few things besides zombies that are a major concern for the post apocalyptic survivor. Now during summer there are many supplies that you need to survive day to day, if you are raided what are you going to do? How will you prepare yourself for these people?
Summer Survival issue - 6 Skin Cancer in the United States – 2007 Estimates |
| New Cases | 59,940 |
| Deaths Per Year | 8,110 |
| 5-Year Overall Survival Rate | 91% |
Skin Cancer is caused by excess exposure to the sun's UV rays. The American Cancer Society estimates there will be about 10,850 deaths from skin cancer in 2007 – 8,110 from melanoma and 2,740 from other skin cancers. Now the question for you this week is how can you avoid skin cancer in a post apocalyptic world?
Summer Survival Issue - 7During summer there is nothing more important than hydration. You all know this, and so do raiders. So what are your plans to avoid being raided? If you are raided how can you protect your valuable stash of hydrating liquids ? Keep in mind raiders will be armed and will stop at little to nothing to get what they came for.
