My Survival Plan:
I plan on having a few different steps that are the following:
1. Find any friends and family that I can, making sure no one is infected.
2. Round up all available supplies, including guns, food, nightsticks, rope, clothing, cards, radio, knives, wood, etc.
3. Head to the forests with my group. I live in Iowa, and as such there are plenty of forests around. I may or may not go to my father's friend's cabin and barn in an isolated area.
4. We build structures above reaching level (about 10 feet) above the ground. Using temporary base camps with constant vigilance on the ground to protect us during construction. The building shall occur deep inside of forests, at least 10 miles from the nearest town or city.
5. We grow accustomed to our new shelter, and live off of the land as much as possible. We make different expeditions into different towns and cities, preferably towns, to find supplies and other survivors (making sure no one is infected and killing anyone that is).
6. We grow.
7. After a few years, and enough supplies, we retake a town. We, of course, keep a few people in our woodland shelter. We then proceed to wall of the town as best as possible.
8. We defend the town as our wall grows. We build farmland (once again very abundant in Iowa) and create everything that we need to be self sufficient.
9. We begin to take in other survivors, still making certain that no one is infected. Our town grows, in population and ability to survive. We can continue to make careful expeditions to other towns, avoiding cities, to search for more survivors and the growing need for more and more supplies.
10. We survive as best as we can, using the forest as a last resort fallback for a potential restart.

i would make my house a zombie base with mg-42s,flak 88s,tanks,and heavy duty wepons.pillbox left and right of gate,watchtower somewheres,building in the middle,tall grass for banzing(means to hide then run to enemy and stab'em),bazzoka in the pill box.you can get the picture.

the walmart and store do have sufficient surval needs, but in the remake of romeros day of the dead, the dead realized they could swim or walk thru water!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so my plan for a barier island kinda is a iffy subject....efficient and trained survivors are needed, doctors....mechanics, pilots, soldiers, hunters....need a clan...women and farmers, especailly educators

A while back, I was having a discussion over, guess what, zombies. This conversation was with my brother and sister - they claimed they had devised a strategy that could eliminate several zombies in a multi-mile-round area. I didn't believe them, and I'll be damned if their plan doesn't have some merit.

Essentially, a group would be assembled, preferably sappers and marksmen. They would travel to the nearest tornado siren. Before I go any further, it's obviously necessary that the group in question must have knowledge enough to know how to activate the siren (depending on where the siren is activated from, a second team may be necessary, and this other unit must have good communication with the other in order to prevent premature activation).

You can probably guess the plan: set up sniping positions, build traps, activate the siren, and wait. Zombies, drawn to sound as they are, would inevitably follow the noise.Once in range, marksmen could pick them off. The siren could be kept running for several days until the amount of contacts lowers.

I see far too many "plans" which include things like:

"And then we go to the gun store to get ..."
"And then we go to Costco (Walmart, etc.) to get ..."
"And then we go buy ..."

If you don't have all of this stuff ahead of time, you are pretty much doomed to fail. Honestly, you are more likely to be killed by fellow humans who competing with you for the same - suddenly valuable and rare - goods than by any encounter with the undead, given proper advance planning.

Organize BEFORE they rise!!!

Any effective plan includes limiting the amount of contact with others.

look if you live in the mexican side of the border (as i do), and you are not a gangster, a soldier or a police oficer (the 3 are the same thing in this side of the border by the way) or something like that you cant easily have a fire gun, so what can you do? i recomend you to use a softball bat as your first wepon, later if you are luky you may find something better.
if your house have secured windos with iron gates and else, you may stay safe for a while, but if you dont have security in your house i recomend you to get in your car and drive away of the city, if you dont have a car and your home is not safe, you can try to get to your rooftop, the zombies cant get you there, but you can only use this place a safe spot for thinking your next accion, it will be wise to get some food and something to protect yourself from the wether, remeber, your chanse of survive a long seige by your self in a rooftop and practically zero, also dont be stupid, you are not an acion hero, you cant kill dozens of zombies by yourself even if you have fire wepon, also remember, i fire wepon can be heard from miles around. So after a few words here is my plan:
well first i think i have a greate chanse get alerted of an outbreak quite early couse i am a very paranoic person, so i get in my car a quick as i hear about of any outbreak even if it is just rumors, i take all the food i can in my jeep cheroke, also i fill the gas tank, go to a house i have prepare and secure with iron gates, store food there, then before the panic i go to the store a wallmart near by the house and get tons of cans, there are cheap and duramble, tuna, canned soup, canned beans, then i take my set of softball metal bats and finally go to my place and bare the windows, i have alredy wood in the house, also have gas cilinders store, properly administerd they can last a year. i dont think that my parents or my girlfrind will come with me, they will not be so open to the idea of the zombies as i : (
