TEC-DC9MModel: Intratec TEC-9
The quintessential "gangsta gun", the TEC-9 is one of the most controversial handguns in modern history. The TEC-9 and its variants were among the 19 weapons banned by name by the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and was one of the weapons used in the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. It received some attention in the 1990s as well due to the ease of converting it into a full auto machine pistol, supposedly common among street gangs. This gives the gun an extreme negative reputation.

The TEC-9 is a high-capacity handgun designed by Interdynamic AB of Stockholm, Sweden. When the gun failed to find a military buyer, their American offshoot, Intratec, began producing it for the commercial sector. The weapon has gone through a number of variations; the original KG-9 marketed to the military, the TEC-9 that everyone knows, the TEC-DC9, which is essentially the same as the older weapon, and the AB-10, a weapon with no thread on the muzzle and a 10-round magazine (though it could accept the high-capacity mags of the older weapons).

Where to find

The TEC-9 has a reputation as a cheap weapon, though the Assault Weapons Ban, Intratec going out of business in 2001, and bad publicity has made it relatively difficult to find. Despite this, a never-used weapon only costs about $300, not a lot for a pistol with such a large magazine. Used weapons are even cheaper.

Complexity

Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. The TEC-9 has a reputation as a weapon only good enough to put lead on a target at 30 feet and not much else. When converted to full auto, it tends to spray uncontrollably, making it nearly useless past across-the-room distances. The magazines are not interchangeable with other weapons, it's not especially accurate, and often has trouble feeding.
