Location: Charlotte NC
Worst Case Scenario:My plan is for the worst possible scenario. That way, if anything easier to deal with comes along, I'll be better prepared for it. Zombie outbreak is worldwide in this scenario. Most Survivors are barricaded in buildings in cities.
Initial Thoughts/Actions
First, our group of 4-5 will assemble. My Bride, Brother, 2-3 Friends, and Myself. What we will want to be doing once we hear of the outbreak is contacting our families. Unfortunately, they live in complete other parts of the country so our conversations will be asking them to stay in their homes so it will be very easy to find them. Our primary motive will be preparing for a rescue of our immediate families. This will involve a trip to PA and then to OK. Before we are able to get there, however, we will need to obviously decide how we are going to get there, in what vehicle, what supplies we'll need to do, where we will take everyone once successfully rescued, and all other questions involving the rescue itself and life after the rescue.
Vehicles for Mission:
Once the unit is assembled successfully we will need to get our 2 vehicles we've decided to take with us on the rescue. First being our Black 2007 Toyota Sequoia. My Bride, our Friend, and myself will be occupying this vehicle, with My friend being the primary driver. We'll try to only fill storage space with actual storage as we'll need all the space for seating as we can have. Towed behind the SUV on a trailer will be our 94 Toyota MR2. The reason we're taking this along is because it's small, fast, light, and handles extremely well. This will be for once we hit a new city and need to explore, we'll take it out. Since it's such a small car, the trailer will have space for more supplies. As to not take up much room for seating. The next and last vehicle will be a Subaru WRX Wagon. The WRX will be occupied by my brother and the other 1-2 friends we bring along. Being a great off road car and having a lot of storage space, this car will prove to being a great benefit to have. We will not be reinforcing our vehicles much at all. I can't imagine the average human being able to forcefully get in to my Sequioa without weapons as they are so why would the undead be any different. I can see applying a brush gaurd for heavily populated streets full of them but we won't be adding much more than that. We will want them to be fast. light, and gas conservative. The added weight of reinforcing them will hinder all of those characteristics. I never understood creating a Dead Reckoning really. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. Will be able to fit around 15 people.

I plan of carrying the bare essentials and being realistic. I've gotten together everything on my lists and test out if I could successfully carry it all together. The answer is absolutely yes. I can not only carry it all but it seems it is light enough that it doesn't hinder me in any way when performing parkour, running, heavy lifting, rolling etc... It is the perfect amount for me.
Others need to realize that if a zombie outbreak begins, within 24 hours cellular service will shut down. Land line communication will stop, and all other basic utilities (plumbing, electricity, internet, etc...) will also come to an end. These types of services require constant attention by the providers and needless to say, the employees of these companies will be doing exactly what everyone else is trying to do. Not go to work and make sure you can make a phone call. That being said, Communication will need to rely on service that don't require constant maintenance. Walkie. That goes for other services as well. Grabbing a portable camping shower from Gander Mtn/Cabellas will prove to be a great idea.
Weapons On Me at all Times: (I am researching purchasing a more powerful gun right now such as a Tech 9 or a Mac 10. I don't want something too big)Primary Weapon:
FNH - FNP 9mm PistolNot much else to say about this gun other than it is a bigger caliber than my other guns. It also holds more rounds. 16 to be exact. I shoot this gun at the range often and finally have decided to purchase it. It has a 4" barrel which is my personal favorite for accuracy. It has an accessory rail and I already have a drop holster to fit it. The one I am purchasing comes with 3 magazines. The extra two have a belt clip for easy reloading.
Secondary Weapons: 40" Musashi Dragon/Tiger Full Tang Battle Ready Katana
- I own many many Katanas but this one is the best I own. It has an indestructable Full Tang blade that extends from the tip to the end of the handle and has an exposed, razor sharp 28" blade. No need to reload or find bullets. Just sharpen once in a while. Primarily will be carried at waist or simply in hand.
Walther P22 .22 Caliber Pistol.
Yes these are glorified pellet guns but the ammo is cheap, light, and there is plenty of it. I am more comfortable with them than any other gun I have ever shot. If all I need to do is destroy the brain, I am confident I will have no problems holding my own. WIll be worn with my shoulder holsters along with extra ammunition.
Secondary Blade: On my back in a sling or on my obi belt I will carry a Musashi Wakizashi.
I am as comfortable with these as I am with my full size Katana. I train with these more that any other weapons I own. Great as weapons and just as good for clearing brush. Heavy enough to do real damage but light enough to dual wield with no problems.
Misc Weapons:
SOG Seal Pup Knife* - Speaks for itself
Meteor Hammer* - One of my favorite weapons. Keeps at least a 15 foot distance between you and them if not heavily populated.
Throwing Spikes* - Often overlooked, I have 2 sets of heavy throwing spikes that I have been practicing with for some time now. Even if they don't "stick" in the zombie these things are plenty heavy to cause brain damage. Not what I would pull first but will do the job if needed.
At this point, I am not sure which will serve me better. Having a Wak and a Kat or having dual Wakizashi's. I feel comfortable with both combination's so it's a hard choice. I like having a long blade but can dual wield Wak's as well as anything else. I'll have to spend some time thinking about which set up would be a better choice.
Equipment we have and will leave in the vehicles or "home" until we need it:My 3 Day internal frame B.O.B. I'll only take it out when I need it
Elaborate tool collection - Snap on and Craftsman mostlyMedium Size GeneratorLarger Generator
CB RadiosA few PC Desktop computers and 2 Macintosh Desktops (Realizing internet will stop shortly after outbreak)
HP and Toshiba Laptops
Extra Guns and Ammo (Family and friends who will be with us have their own weapons)
Gun cleaning kitsSword and knife sharpening kits
SOG Seal Pup
Equipment List for our 4-6 day rescue mission:
It goes without saying that we will stock up as much as we can on non perishable food items. We'll need to go to our nearest/easiest to get to Super Store such as a Wal-Mart. Tuna, Chicken, Vegatables, etc... Everything we can carry that comes in a can as well as 2 times the amount of water we think we'll need. Also, we'll be taking Multi Vitamins, Protein and Weight Gainers that can be mixed with water, Protein and Energy Bars, NO2, Oats, etc...

First Week:
Our First week will be getting supplies for the trip, rescuing our families and then finally finding a more permanent shelter. All of the equipment above will be accessible before we embark on our rescue mission. A general gathering of those items quickly and then heading for our loved ones. During the drive to them, we will be essentially homeless and be living out of our vehicles. Sleeping and driving in shifts as to achieve the shortest rescue time possible. From the last retail store, once we have all of our supplies, we'll take i77 north to i79 heading for my family. Realizing that there will certainly be parts of these highways that are congested, we will add time to how long we anticipate the trip is going to take and evade these roadblocks by exiting in a town and then re entering where it is clear. There are no major cities along that way so we don't plan on doing this many times. Once we rescue my family and get any supplies we need from their house we will head to my In-Laws with my family riding with us in the SUV. Again, not many major cities are along that route so we don't anticipate much road blockage but will plan for extreme congestion.
***Since this is the worst case scenario, I will give another route we can take if the main highways are too blocked up. We can avoid highways and cut straight up and over through mountains and country roads. We will be less likely to run in to any cars or anyone. Dead or undead.
This is what the revised route would look like:
From NC to PA

As you can see, taking the route pictured to the left and bottom, we would evade most major highways. However, the roads taken are used primarily by truckers so they are wide and will not make the journey all that much longer. Only by about an hour. A large part of the way is actually in the mountains and has a very small population, which will reduce any congestion of the highways. And even if they do get congested, backtracking to another town/road won't add much longer on to the overall time of the trip.

Second Week
After the rescue of our families is successful we will find our more permanent home. My girl's parents own a small Asian store, which is basically an Asian Wal-Mart and is invaluable as to how much supplies and food it can offer. It has 2 stories with multiple rooms on the second story. This is where we will call home for some time. It has plenty of room to hold all of our family members, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and roof access. Not to mention, it has an supply of non perishable food items that will last us months with no need to restock. The combination of having roof access and the layout of the parking lot will work only to our benefit. It resides in a small shopping center in the rear of the building where only the employee's/owner's are allowed to park. And it's gated. There is a chain link fence approximately 13' with barbed wire at the top. This won't hold forever, but the cherry on the sundae is that it's only about 20' long and then there are 2 story brick walls on each side and 2 stores over is a mom and pop hardware store where we can easily grab supplies to fortify the fence. Also, we could easily create our own greenhouse or garden. Their store sells domestic and exotic seeds for different vegetables and other foods.
The next few weeks are going to be fending for ourselves. We will need to test our strengths and weaknesses and learn what we need to do to improve on them. Building the perfect shelter and collecting essential supplies won't be easy and it will take time to complete. However, we have a great base of a base and plenty of family and friends.
Weeks after constructing our "home"
After we feel that we have created a safe living environment for ourselves we can then reach our to other survivors. We will take our "city" vehicles (mainly my MR2, and other vehicles we obtain such as Mazda Miatas, Honda Civics, Subaru WRX's, Toyota Supra's, etc...) out in to the city where we believe there will be a high population of survivors and get on a bull horn or some type of announcing gadget and ask for survivors if they would like to show themselves. Explain what we can offer them. Shelter, safety, food, etc... Also, I will go in to buildings and other areas that we feel there may be people or maybe people will come through after we leave and I will hang envelopes with SD cards, DVDs, and audio recordings that we make informing people of how to get a hold of us.
We will be very particular about who we allow in to our compound. At first we will only ask for specific people. Doctors, engineers, mechanics, scientists, law enforcement, martial arts experts, weapons experts, and obviously people who have supplies, vehicles, and shelters that we need/want. After we have created the community that we wanted to we will start to populate with more regular civilians. After that we can create our own civilization and try to rebuild our culture/country as most of the undead will likely have died due to starvation, been killed by us, etc...
Out of the 13 stores in this particular strip mall, only 3 of them have access to the V.I.P. parking lot. And only 5 have a second story. This can benefit us greatly in 2 ways. The first is that we can build our own 2nd floor on to the roofs of some of the buildings if we have to. As the roofs are flat and the weather is somewhat regular in OK, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Especially, with our groups carpentry skills. The second advantage to this set up is that while we are building our network of housing cells, we decide how people can come and go. Meaning, we make it so they have to arrive through the entrance we create, and depart the same way. No skin jobs getting in and out. Now, it's possible for them to create a human climbing wall with their own dead bodies but this area is very out in the open and with a few sentries, this problem becomes a small one. There are also, other businesses and roofs to build retractable bridges to for a quick escape, or simply just for looting. A network of Zip Cords, sophisticated walls, and ropes will make for easy travel throughout the city.
"We can rebuild it"
I don't neccessarily want to be the leader. I've got a plan to survive but it doesn't exceed that. I enjoy following politics and understanding it but I don't see myself controlling anything aside from how we get to our destination. I know I can get us there, and once we are there, I will step aside and follow any rules we create. I will do my job in our community, I will vote, do my chores, help plan, and everything else I am asked of but I would rather concentrate on getting us our needed supplies and keeping the outsiders out. Protecting my loved ones from all foes.
