The Beginning
Mark sat staring at the television, more news about the super flu that had hitten the world by surprise. He smirked at the sight, remembering that only months ago, him and his team had developed this flu, and its more lethal brother, that had yet to be released. The planet was about to be reborn, in a less polluted form. He turned towards the trucks that were being loaded with the second virus, a few weeks after the super flu had worked its wonder, his group had announced their creation of a "vaccine", so far, their plan was working perfectly, these trucks were shipping to several important military and political locations across the continent. and he trusted the others to take care of Europe, Asia, and the rest of the planet. He walked slowly towards his own vehicle, he had an apocalypse to prepare.
Dryden, Ontario. One Week Later...
Steve Pollard looked around the wreckage, holding his Enfield ready, just in case any of them decided to attack. He had been one of the few people who were unaffected by the super-flu, and had decided not to get the vaccine. Now, he was examining the wreckage of a Semi on the highway, looking for tonight's meal. With the initial panic, the stores had ran dry of food and supplies almost instantly, and his supply of non-perishable food was starting to dwindle, since three other people had joined him in his safe-house. He scanned the streets around him and sprinted towards a nearby house. There was nothing left to scavenge from the wreckage, and the noise he had made putting down the two infected on the scene was likely to draw more of them.

He recounted his ammunition inside the house, when he finished he saw that he was down to twenty-six rounds of .303 for the Enfield and three magazines for it, and thirty-one rounds of .40 S&W for the Sig P229 but only two magazines. Earlier he had scavenged the handgun from a dead Ontario Provincial Police (OPP for short) officer. When he left he had left his .30-30 and his shotgun back at his safe-house for the other survivors to defend themselves. Steve looked at the supplies he had managed to gather from the trip, seven cans of beans, and eleven packs of ramen noodles. Not enough for very long, but it would have to do them for a while. He turned and looked at the infected that had swarmed the wreckage, he counted around sixty, and a handful looked like the fast movers, the rest were the slower variety. Steve looked away, fearing he may recognize the faces of one of the infected, he packed everything into his backpack, and walked to the back door, he had to make it back before night fell.

Steve had made it almost halfway back to his safe-house before he encountered another group of infected, he tried to skirt around but it was no use, they spotted him. He looked around for something he could use to slow them down, and spotted a ladder leaned up against the wall of a nearby house. Steve sprinted for it and managed to pull himself up to the top of the ladder and pull it up behind him before the infected had reached the bottom.
"Aw sh*t" he stated when he stared below him, there was over thirty of them circling around below. When he looked to the back of the house he saw that there was half a dozen infected back there, he decided he had to take care of them. He sighted the first one with the Enfield, and shot it about an inch above the nose, it dropped pretty fast, the others turned, and let their all to familiar moan out. He shot all of the zombies in the back yard, he only missed twice. He switched out the magazine, and worked the bolt so there was a round in the chamber. He climbed down in the back yard, and hopped the fence.

Zombie Contingency
Chapter 1
In the Beginning

The plan to drill into the earths mantle was touted in some small circles as a triumph of technology and human will. In 2013 that plan was put into action and humanity embarked on what was to be a new era of exploration and scientific understanding. Never before had anyone on the planet been able to reach the depths of the earth’s core and this, it turned out, had been for the best.

At first this great accomplishment went unnoticed by the public. Geology after all is not on the forefront of a the worlds mind when there are wars in the Middle East, UFC championships on TV and people still debating evolution all over the world. Still the drill spun down, grinding, tearing, and burning deeper into the very flesh of the planet, unearthing new minerals, metals, and elements.

Ok, first off, the story is based on an idea humanroach had, and asked others to write, and it is still a work in progress. But here is what I have.

The Beginning.

Mark sat staring at the television, more news about the super flu that had hitten the world by surprise. He smirked at the sight, remembering that only months ago, him and his team had developed this flu, and its more lethal brother, that had yet to be released.
