salt is very important for living, as it helps your nerves to work, with out enough salt you will die and with too much you will die, but the not enough is obviously going to be the main problem.
i have decided to post a method of obtaining salt and water at the same time. first a salt water source must be found!, this is less dificult if you live on the coast or on an island. but if you live in the middle of a landlocked country (or in the centre of a really big one)..... it can be difficult to find salt water. then you get a small amount of this water and boil it in what ever container you have. you keep boiling the water untill there is none left and only salt remains!, now you ask wheres my water gone? well if you put a lid on the container (not actually sitting on it but just above it) at a slant, the steam will hit the lid, condense and run down the lid at the angle you slanted it at, then you can collect this pure, condensed steaam (water) in another container! two benefits yay (now all you need is a good fire ^^) sorry if this was already posted,

Here in Australia you can buy a product called gastrolyte. It comes in a liquid form, but I think the powder form would be best as it doesn't take up space and doesn't weigh as much. I think an electrolyte source should be part of any first aid kit as it helps to recover from illnesses such as diarrhoea and vomiting from flu etc. If a sick person, especially a child, is refusing to eat or drink water, a tasty electrolyte drink, even powerade will be easy to drink and get the person feeling better sooner.
Glucose can also be found in powder form or small packets of gel. This is also great as a quick pick me up for illness, or an emergency food supplement. It aint much in terms of a meal, but it could be the difference between staying awake and falling asleep.

| Zee-Man | Hydration Bladder | 19 | Feb 28 2012, 9:43 PM EST by White76Knight | ||||

I recently bought a 3 liter box of wine. I have adapted the plastic bladder from this to use as the hydration bladder in my 4 Wheel Jive.
Parts N/C -- the 3L bladder N/C -- the molded valve body that came with it. $1.48 -- 3 feet of plastic hose (1/4 ID) $1.98 -- a drink valve made by Coleman Unk -- some JB Weld The molded valve body is also the fill plug for the bladder. The molded valve proved to be poorly shaped to be able to push the hose onto. So I sliced it off leaving a hole that was slightly larger than the OD of the hose. I tried to seal this using silicone, but the silicone would not bond well to the hose. I had great success using JB Weld. I pushed the hose through the hole, applied a "collar" of JB Weld to the hose on interior side of the valve body then pulled the collar to the valve body. I further applied some JB Weld the exterior side of the valve body. The Coleman drink valve is not a bite valve like on a Camelback. It has a hose barb though, so just insert and one. For less than $3.50 I have a 3L Hydration bladder that would otherwise cost me $34 in the store.

Places to share the contents of your BOB.
1) On your profile page. Many member's have their BOBs listed there. 2) Use a spreadsheet on Google Doc's. You will need a Google account (free) and you will have to set sharing priveledges (can set viewable to any with link) Which is what I do. Very handy when you have multiple containers and types. You can then make a link to your BOD (Bug out Document) and put that on your profile page. 3) Post a note in this thread so you can have others critique your BOB Note to Moderators: If this belongs somewhere else drop a PM and Ill rewrite the post there.

Satellites require maintenance from ground crews from time to time. Things like re-aligning antennas and solar panels and fixing system anomalies. In time, these things add up and eventually, one by one, they will cease to function. Therefore, GPS system will work at first, but slowly over time the system will fail. How long that is? I don't know. A few years perhaps.

Okay, while reading the first aid section a noticed this 'Drinking alcohol can also be used to deaden pain, and as a cheap method of anaesthesia (get them blind drunk/unconscious and then cut 'em open, or pop that shoulder back in).'
While watching a movie when surgery (amputation) was preformed with out anesthetic a kid yelled out, "why didn't thye get him drunk before this' they teacher replied by saying, Getting people drunk lowers their blood pressure, and thats bad for surgery. It also is more likly for them pass out and not wake up. from http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/biology/b103/f01/web1/chew.html 'At high levels, alcohol is an anesthetic that acts as a depressant on the central nervous system. Alcohol can decrease heart rate, and lower blood pressure and respiration rate to dangerous levels.' Feel free to correct me, because by no means do i claim to be an expert.

Unless you can be certain to perfectly sterilize the jug and remove all traces of milk there is a possibility that your water will become bacteria infested over time.
I recommend just buying a gallon of water in a jug or the small bottles. Rotate them as you use them in your normal routines. I prefer the small bottles as my family uses them a lot on long car trips and for walks and picnics which helps us rotate them better.
