It’s been a few months since I was last on the wiki, I thought I’d thoroughly exhausted every angle there was about zombies. Then it came to me, what entities could exist post-Z-Day?
By entities, I mean groups of people working together in an organisation of some sort for a specific goal other than just individual survival. Let me give you some examples: 1.A re-emerging city-state. Think of the Governor’s city from the Walking Dead; this is a group of survivors who have become numerous enough to re-establish an old city. These could become effective trading posts etc. 2.A military contingent. This could be a group of soldiers who are still engaging with missions despite losing all contact with their commanding officers. 3.A re-emerging corporation. With the vast wealth and private security forces employed by modern day corporations they are sometimes better equipped than nation states are. It isn't too farfetched to think that a corporation with a private military could retain control of an area of industry, e.g. mining. The resources could then be sold to survivors in exchange for work, ammunition, food etc. 4.Farms. When I say farms, I’m not talking about single man or small farms that exist to sustain a small family. I’m talking about larger farms which could feasibly export goods. I’m sure there are dozens more of these possible entities and I believe the wiki would benefit from a page detailing them alongside short descriptions of their theoretical roles in the new world. It might even be worth analyzing the likelihood of each one coming about. Anyway, let me know what you think, is it worth pursuing such an area of study for the wiki and is anyone interested in working on it with me? It would probably involve reading journal articles, some basic political works and doing a wee bit of research into history and the development of governance. It's good to be back, Marsden

The world has been almost completely infected and all established governments have collapsed.
The power vacuum has led to you creating your own society. Over the course of several months you clear out a small town, build up barricades and eventually have a small population of 150 survivors. As your town grew residents have started manufacturing their own alcoholic beverages. Others have started growing a range of drugs from marijuana to "magic" mushrooms. A few residents have started working to grow a poppy field outside of the town to produce opium. Over time massive amounts of firearms, ammunition and even some specialised melee weaponry like swords and axes have been stockpiled. Unfortunately due to a poor bureaucracy you have been unable to keep track of them and much of the weaponry is no longer in the communal storage. So, your tasks are as follows: Will you regulate who can consume alcohol? Will you regulate who can produce alcohol? Will you regulate who can consume the marijuana and magic mushrooms? Will you regulate who can produce the marijuana and magic mushrooms? Will you regulate who can use opium? Will you regulate who can produce opium? Will you regulate access to firearms and weapons? In answering these questions feel free to include details such as minimum ages for using various products. Enjoy, Marsden

we all have played a zombie game and/or saw the movies and we all know what are the best ways to make the undead dead again but when a zombie apcoalypse really does happen we need to be more realistic E.g.:the walking dead or night of the living dead and we need to be careful cuz even though a firearm works best they also attract other undead (except if using a silencer) and it isnt easy to find fiearms anywhere so start simple like a hammer or a bat and work your way up

So a good question is, if you have a dog, or cat, or bird, what do you do if it is making too much noise, you see, my Chihuahua dog would have to go, because you can't draw attention of any kind when bugging in or out. Tell me what yall thnk.

Most people would go for canned food that is why you need to go for fresh food like fruits and vegetables and seeds what you also need is a lot of flour and beans nobody ever goes for flour and beans which is good because you will be able to get lot of flour and beans which will last longer than canned food if you put it in an air tight contaner.

Howdy yal, I know there's been alot of threads on this subject but after browsing the first few pages of the 427 threads listed I gave up. For that I apologize in advance. My living situation is changing soon to a more urban setting soooo i've gotta change up some things. I saw a show on the history or discovery channel once about urban survival and was curious as to everyone's take on it here.
Ideally I know the best option is to get the hell out of there and move to the country, but given to certain circumstances lets say you have to stay in an urban area for an extended amount of time. I was giving this some thought as I was browsing through the EDC and BOB threads while at work in my office. I was wondering if there was any pointers one should take? Is there any gear in particular that would be more beneficial in an urban setting? for example having a crowbar vs. a hatchet. Anyone have any bugging in tips in make shift shelters, what would you scavenge for, and things you can build to help you for long term bugging in? Not EVERYONE does parkour so what could average joe do to train properly? I read that on one thread and lol'd at the thought of ppl who never trained vaulting and jumping off things they normally wouldn't. Alot of us saw Doomsday prepers and pretty much went O_o at the girl who trains to bug out and go to Mexico... urban survivor to look up to? I think not. And as always any other tid bits would be appreciated

Hi All,
I'm researching a documentary series for the Discovery Channel which focuses on the increasingly mainstream belief that a major shift for humanity is on the horizon, and we're looking for people who are prepping to profile. We're interested in looking at people who are in the process of preparing for the threats or dangerous times ahead. We would like to profile the specific ways in which they are preparing. We are hoping to be able to see into how the people are becoming prepared. We are also hoping to add some benefit our participants by bringing in experts who might be able test the equipment, offer them advice on how to improve their readiness, as well as doing some "how-to" segments to help our viewers prepare. We're interested in all types of people, and we are intent on not judging or challenging any specific belief -- it's the threat and the response to it that we are focusing on. If you are interested in hearing more, or would like to share what you've done, I'd love to have a chat with you about the program. We are moving quickly through the development phase of our series and we are actively searching for Participants for our pilot episode. Contact me through the board and I'll email you with more information. -Tracey Schaefer Paperny Films

The Truck gun got me to thinking(generally a bad thing). If at the begging of a SHTF emergency and you get stranded in your vehicle in a semiurban area when you evac do you take your truck gun with you?
Some things to think about are, is the increase in firepower worth the notice you would get from jeolous individuals, already over worked and harrassed LEOs, etc? I am starting to think I would just use my sidearm to be able to get home.

When you think your not going to make it through a horde of zombies try your best to act like one. But be careful they can smell humans so what I think you should do, this is going to sound gross; find a DEAD body, get their clothes and put them on, get some dirt and rub it all over you. Try your best to hide your scent. GOOD LUCK!!

the problem I have with this is that it conflicts with my "if I cant make it i don't need it" strategy what do you think I need to do to get over this? and what are some things I(from a small town) should know about the city?

Has any one given any thought to a bicycle as a survivale tool.In a Z disaster after a short time fuel and electric will be gone you'll still need a way to get arround. A good Mt. bike and a kids bicycle trailer attached will get you arround quickly and quitly and carry about 75 pounds of gear about 45 miles a day. Give it some thought.

Many ZSDW members, visitors, and lurkers are avid readers. This makes good sense too. Let's face it, about 99% of our site is text, and while I doubt anybody here has read all of it - the logistics of that endeavor is simply mind boggling - a certain amount of literacy and self-study is expected and encouraged of our members here. I want to share a few books that I've read recently that I've particularly enjoyed, and believe that you, my fellow zombie survivalists, may also enjoy.
1)The Zombie Survival Guide & World War Z by Max Brooks Obviously these two books are required of anybody who is interested in zombie survival. Sure, we could nitpick each of them down, find gaping flaws in both continuity and logic, but we are simply forced to acknowledge that Max Brooks has brought more members to this site than anyone, short of George A. Romero. 2) The Art of the Rifle by Jeff Cooper There are many books that talk about rifles as tools themselves, but no other book speaks to the art of shooting them in quite the same way as Jeff Cooper's work. I've read this book cover to cover several times now, and each time I pick up a little something new. While reading about shooting is inferior to actually shooting, it does impart lessons and explanations about shooting that you might not obtain elsewhere. A "Must-Read" for any firearms enthusiast! 3) Back to Basics: How to Learn and Enjoy Traditional American Skills by Reader's Digest This book is an excellent introduction to self-sufficiency and country living, and reintroduces skills that were once common knowledge to people living in the United States. While this book approaches "simple living" in a DIY manner, the information is both important and timeless to the survivalist. I'll add to this list over time, I'm simply running out of space to type! Feel free to add your own suggestions and ideas as well.

My name is Sharysa and I've been lurking around here for about two weeks. This site is both fascinating and surprisingly eye-opening. While I was reading about all the survival topics, I noticed that most of them are transported in separate bags/containers.
Being a cosplayer, I and my fellows are constantly unable to carry even small bags while in costume due to the insane nature of more ambitious outfits, so there's a whole lot of stuff aimed towards carrying one's gear in any manner possible. Usually, this involves secret pockets. I live in Northern California, the Other Rainforest. With the annual floods every winter, I have two jackets to guard against rain/cold: A calf-length trenchcoat and a mid-thigh-length peacoat. Both of them are quite sturdy (made of wool and lined). Come Z-day I will take one or both as my worst-weather clothing. I noticed on Wikipedia's Trenchcoat article that there are pockets sewn on the inside of historical military trenchcoats. So I checked my own coats today, and there's a foot of useable space from the hems inward and from the chest area to the hems. The trench has two and a half feet of vertical space (middle of lapels to the hem), and the peacoat has one and a half. I'll have my sister sew in pockets soon, and I think six-inch or larger pockets would be acceptable storage space. Aside from the obvious small supplies (the Basic Four Kit is an especially good choice), what else would I be able to carry? I have a 750ml thermos that I can technically stick in there, but it already has a belt-clip and it'd be a ***** to walk with it banging against my shins. Which brings another problem: HOW should I store things? Should it increase in weight from top to bottom, or should it be reversed? Mind that while I'm fairly fit (I practice Shaolin Kung Fu), I'm also about five-feet tall. But feel free to use this idea yourself!
