Day One: Kieth

6:30 AM
Monday

I heard the alarm clock as it rang loudly. My eyes opened to see the blank, grey ceiling of my two-story house. I sat up and turned off the alarm, before putting my right leg off the bed to the carpet below. I stood up and walked over to the closet, pulling down my white coat and a pair of blue jeans and a white t-shirt.
I put on the shirt and jeans, and threw the coat on the bed. I walked out of the room. The sun shined brightly through the hallway, making me squint my eyes.
The kitchen was around the corner, and I turned to it. I searched through the fridge, looking for the eggs. I pulled them from the bottom part of the door, and set them on the counter to the left. I then grabbed the pan and started to boil them.

I knew it would take some time to boil, so I sat on the couch and flipped on the TV. I turned it to channel 20, CNN. The news said that a high-importance research station has recently finished some kind of material which would improve the human immune system, making it more difficult for us to experience a sickness. As a doctor I thought of it, wondering if hospitals and antibiotics would be needed, and wondering if this new breakthrough would force me to find a new job. After a few more minutes of news, I went back into the kitchen and turned off the stove, peeling the outer, hard layers of the eggs, before eating them.

I then put on the coat and my shoes. I found the keys, and went out the door. The sky was dark blue, without clouds, and there were still a few bright stars out.
I put the keys into the keyhole and opened the door, and sat in the leather seat of the sedan. I started the car and drove to my place of work: Ghrey Hospital.
I pulled open the door and walked through. I walked past the janitor, who was sweeping the floor with a broom and dust-pan. I went into my office and sat in the swivel chair. The last patient I had was released yesterday, he had a broken leg, so I, of course, set up a cast and had him sit in the bed for a few days, but it healed eventually. I was hoping to get another one today, as I did not want to spend all day sitting in a chair.

I must've been in that office for 10 minutes, before some other doctors were rushing through with a patient on a table, so I got out of my office, and chased them down. "Whats wrong with him?" I asked one of the doctors. He turned his head to me and said, "He was given that new Immune System multiplier thing, shortly after that, he fell unconscious." They made a tight turn to a room, and they shocked him to try and bring him from unconsciousness. After a few shocks in vain, he was dead. "If only we could've got to him faster..." One doctor sighed. Suddenly, the patient jumped from the bed and grabbed a doctor, and bit him on the neck. Then the patient pulled away, and the spot where he bit was now a hole. The doctor fell to the floor, and I could tell he was dead, as it bit away the Trachea, an organ that allowed oxygen to get to the brain. It then looked towards us. I paniced and ran out of the room, and I heard the screams of the doctors that were in there.

I looked for a place to hide, but the patient left the room and saw me, and started to lumber very slowly towards me. Should I run? Should I try to fight back?
I knew that it was hopeless for me to try and fight, I could already tell that it was much stronger then me. So I ran out the hospital doors, and made a hard left. I was hoping I would lose it, then I could find help. It followed me out the door, and it seemed confused when it couldn't find me. It then walked off into the driveway. I watched it and ran back into the hospital. Another doctor was in the hallway to my left, and he greeted me. "Did you hear those screams earlier?"
I nodded. "I thought they came from that hallway over there." He pointed to the one I just ran through to get away.

Suddenly, 3 more doctors, the ones that were with the patient, were slumbering through the hallway. I thought for a moment, I was sure they were killed, yet they were walking. Then, one of them moaned. I heard glass break behind me, and I turned around and saw the patient.
Oh Crap. I thought.
