GUN CONTINUED: If your a new user like me. Then don't go looking for a bazooka or high powered shot gun, grab a few handguns and the bullets to match. Safety off, take aim, and shoot..I'm sure its not much more complicated than that. If you want the extra weight grab more ammo for you hand guns, no shotgun. Seriously if you don't know how to use one their useless.
EYEWEAR: you dont need blade shades, but you should find a way to protect your eyes, you wouldnt want to have survived for months and be doing really good and making travel buddies then all of a sudden get some of that tainted blood in your eye from a killing spree. Cause soon after that your travel buddies will be bashing your skull in too. So sad.
VEHICLE: but only if you plan on using it as a bomb, or travel a great distance, or have more than three people to transport with you. Other than that i think being on foot is an advantage because in a pickle a car cant hide in a small place, or climb to a high area if need be, and with a car, zooming around will land you right into an unexpected horde of flesh hungry fiends, and just because your completely protected from bites doesnt mean you shouldnt still be careful, unless of course you had time to armor the car and reinforce it as well. On this journey with the vehicle you should look for propane tanks, the little ones used for backyard grilling. They can be used as serious crowd control which you will undoubtedly run across.
This is a long list yes I know but its realistic, and thanks to my dad for teaching me street smarts and all the cool things he learned while he was in the army. Not saying I would be better off than anyone or even if any of this would even work but its just in case in the event, maybe someone can get some uses out of it.

WALKIES: if your alone this item doesn't matter. But a radio of some sort can be useful for finding and locating other survivors. If you happen upon a store that carries them though, you should pick up some walkies just in case you do run across someone you end up staying with. Not like the ones you used with your brother or best friend as a kid those are to loud and will attract unwanted attention. Go with aheadset or something.
WATER: bottled water. Four or more bottles of water shoud make the need to stop for quench much less frequent. And you can always boil and refill when you run out, there's water everywhere you should never really RUN out.
FIRE&ACCELERANTS: matches, lighters, coal lighter, lighter fluid, nail polish remover, alchohol, any and or all of that will help you
when you need to make a fire. Or start one depending on your situation.
CLOTH: like a handkerchief or bandana. Find some empty bottles and you have a fiery cocktail as a last resort escaping option or just having a washrag would be nice.
SOAP: four bars should be a suffient amount to last a few months depending on your chances to bathe. Find a body of water and there you go. Every other luxery has gone out the window and money no longer plays a part in your life, you should still be able to wash your ass.
FLASHLIGHT&BATTERIES: I don't need to tell you why you'll need this.
FANNY PACK: yeah I know right? But just listen. Strap this baby to your chest under neath a jacket and you can make grabbing something important in a bad situation much easier on you.

LONGJOHNS&DUCT TAPE: by far the most important things you'll need. Outfit the longjohns in duct tape, two to three layers should be more than enough for protection from bites and scratches. If its hot out then make the sleeves and pants from the knee down removeable. With this kind of protection your chances of survival double, but just because your protected doesn't mean you shouldn't still be careful.
CLOTHES: sweats are good because they are almost like wearing nothing when you need to run or hop a fence. Jeans and leather can bind you and that's the last thing you need in these times. Couple this with the boots and gloves and your duct taped under armor and you should be completely safe. Except for your face and head. (Don't forget duct tape neck protection over some cloth, I tried to scroll up but my phone is pretty stupid). Your going to need to change often because your going to get bloody, sweat clothes are easily disposable and just as easy to run across somewhere else. Sorry to say but your going to have to get used to killing someone. Whether your a lover not a figher isn't going to matter much anymore.
No one is going to be like "yeah, I'll bash in so many heads it won't even be funny" because no you won't. Even some of the most seasoned vets will think "holy ****" when the poop hits the high powered fan. It'll get easier after awhile though. Just watch ricks transformation (walking dead, the greatest t.v. show ever) from episode one until now.
GUN: even with the impervious duct armor and everything else on the list your going to need a gun at some point. Showing up at a gun shop a few days after zday is still pretty dangerous since the guy inside is sitting on an ammo goldmind and obviously good with guns. Knock and try and reason with someone is still there...offer food or water in exchange for a firearm. If no one is there then have at it. Look for a surpressor to

Here's a list of things in my personal opinion that if a zombie apocalypse actually took place, I would want to take with me.
BACKPACK: large in size, with a lot of side pockets for smaller items and other misc.
FIRST AID: some kits have up to two hundred items including burn creams, antiseptics and facemasks, but you most likely won't have one of those unless of course your lucky enough to already have one. In the event that you don't, raid your house for anything first aid.
UTENSILS&CAN OPENER: banging open a can of food in the middle of the night is a good way to get yourself killed by the passing horde that otherwise wouldn't have heard you if you had had a can opener. Just because the world has gone to sh*t doesn't mean you should have to eat with your hands. you can even tie or fasten the utensil to the handle of your opener for eating in a pinch.
FOOD: obviously canned foods, if your traveling. If you have storage you can stock up on non perishables too but a go to is definately canned foods, something you can eat right from the can if need be.
WEAPON: for common folk and people who don't already own a gun or don't know how to use one, forget about that for a few days. Its truely not going to happen, you'll end up being shot by one before you can get one. Most of us have a baseball bat somewhere around the house, if you do good for you. Go for it find a smaller back up weapon too like a hammer or for those with sheds, an axe or hatchet. Pocket knives are a must have. Some of them are completely capable of rekilling.
BOOTS: your going to be on your feet alot in fact, your feet are going to be taking all of the punishment. A few layers of socks and some boots should do you just fine.
GLOVES: leather of course, fingertips (all except thumb) and palms can be removed for protection and grip. Your palms should never be exposed anyway.

I apologize if this is not thread worthy, but I would like to suggest that a link to Maricely's Ultimate Newbie Guide:
be included on the front page of the ZSDW. Such a link should be prominent and near the top of the page so that newcomers are less likely to overlook it in their mad rush to dive into the site's wonderful zombie awesomeness. LOL

now, i have been with the site for about a year and until recently had a plan A, B, C and a hundered back ups and mdifications for each plan incase something went awry.
now i ask you, ZSDW, with every plan i've had to date trashed, and living in a highly populated area north of dallas Tx., does anyone have any completely out of the light idea of how to protect myself should zombies rise?
