Illinois is primarily agricultural land for cereal crops with most large cities and populations concentrated in the North East. The state is lightly forested, but mainly consists of rolling prairies with the Mississippi River along the entire West boarder, Lake Michigan in the North East and multiple rivers and lakes dotted in the middle. Summer Rainfall is regular and moderate at 33" annually. Most corn and wheat farms don't require supplemental irrigation. Winters can get below 0 in the North were 6-24" of snow per storm is common. Winters are more moderate in the South, however the Southern end of the state is prone to summer tornadoes. Spring Melt Water often floods river valleys and low lands. There are no large predator animals, but sports game in Deer, Canadian Geese, Wild Turkey and Fishing. Illinois is the only NO-CARRY state. This means it is illegal to have a weapon on your person at any time in any condition. Home defense weapons are common and legal. However, the City of Chicago does have prohibitively high taxes on firearms. The only significantly large military base is the Great Lakes Navel Base Just North of the City of Chicago. The majority of the state covers un-mined coal deposits in the South East and several wind farms in the South and the West of the state.

Not yet a writer, so I'm putting my New Jersey survival guide down here for now.
Population: 8,821,155 (2011) Geography: Northeastern New Jersey (the Gateway Region) is within NYC's main commuter belt, and is host to some medium-sized cities of its own (Newark, Jersey City, Elizabeth) and a large college town in New Brunswick. It is made up of Bergen, Hudson, southern Passaic, Essex, Union and Middlesex Counties, and has just under 4.2 million people, nearly half the state's population. Northwestern New Jersey (the Skylands Region) is far more rural, mountainous and forested than the rest of the state. It is made up of Morris, northern Passaic, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon and Somerset Counties. It has less than 1.3 million people, most of them concentrated in the eastern and southern parts around Morris and Somerset Counties, making it the least populated region in the state. Southeastern New Jersey (the Jersey Shore) is mostly beach towns on the Atlantic coastline, with pine forest (the Pine Barrens) further inland. It is made up of Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May Counties, and has just under 1.6 million permanent residents; however, this number skyrockets during tourism season, since, as anybody who's watched MTV in the last five years knows, the Jersey Shore is a major tourist attraction. Around Atlantic City, the "Vegas on the Shore", tourism is year-round. Southwestern New Jersey (the Delaware Valley) is mostly suburbs of Philadelphia along the river, with farms and the Pine Barrens predominating as one moves further inland. Two medium-sized cities are located here: Camden and the state capital, Trenton. Princeton, located not far from Trenton, is also a major college town with a large non-permanent student population. It has over 1.8 million people, and encompasses Mercer, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland Counties. |
