The infamous dawn (Do you know your city?).
I say hit the ground running! There is no time to throw away. Do you know your city? I believe the main ingredient to a successful survival game plan is knowledge and understanding of your city: The layout, available resources, and a secure base of operations.

I know the normal routes to get around in my area, but the problem is that so does everyone else.
In a full-blown panic and evacuation, the general public will turn the roads into nothing but parking lots. Once their vehicles are abandoned, it doesn't matter if you know every twist and turn of the concrete and blacktop pathways of your county. The obstacles these vehicles will present turn all of your knowledge into nothing. I’ve learned the alternative routes in my area and you may want to consider these as well. The two types I’ve concentrated on are power company right of ways (transmission towers) and railroad right of ways. With a 4 wheeler or trail bike, I can follow the power line routes all over my county. These rights of way don’t have barriers or fencing of any kind. Granted they wont get me everywhere that I want to go, but they will get me pretty darn close. The one issue with them is river crossings, no bridges. Now railroads have bridges and their rights of way go places, the power line rights of way don’t. These rights of way also go to supply terminals of all types, so the chances of hitting food terminals and the like are very high. Between these two types of routes you could avoid a lot of problems and remain fairly mobile. |

In case of the eventual outbreak, I would take my hiking backpack, which includes a tent, sleeping bag, stove, etc... and I would get my friend Josh (Family would already have been evacuated, because of lookout for signs of an outbreak) and his .22, grab some bikes, and pedel to the local gun outfit. I would then head to the plains, and then to the west coast.

In the event of an out break you should either be one of the first ones out or the last ones to leave. If you are one of the first ones out (as you should be if you have been watching for signs of outbreaks) you have your pick of highways for a couple of hours or if you are lucky (and the general public isn't) a day or two. if you are one of the last people to leave things should have solidified (traffic) and you can slowly but steadily make your way to your destination.
