Things Citizens Might Not Have Access To
This is a list of weapons and gear the average civilian will probably not have access to, but might be able to find/steal/borrow while surviving.

Battle Rifles
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A battle rifle is an auto loading rifle that is of a full-sized caliber (usually a .30 variant) and full barrel lengths (average of 18 inches). They combine the traits of semi-automatic rifles with the added advantage of longer effective ranges and more power. Disadvantages include added weight and more recoil. Most can punch through standard body armor and can hit accurately at several times the range of an assault rifle. They tend to lend them selves to medium-ranged engagements, sniping and counter sniping.
No battle rifles are listed on this page.

Assault Rifles
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An "assault rifle" is an automatic rifle that fires a smaller caliber, mid-ranged round, with a detatchable box magazine.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Springfield M1A SOCOM II: The Springfield M1A SOCOM II has a short 16-inch barrel to further suit its urban environment and CQC purpose. It is chambered in 7.62x51 NATO/.308Win and has a maximum capacity of twenty rounds. The four M1913/Picatinny Rail systems allow for compatible accessory customization. It is a very powerful and accurate short to medium range rifle.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Assault rifles were developed from the idea that standard rifle cartridges were excessively powerful and had a range much longer then needed. Utilizing lightweight ammo to expand the ammo capacity of an infantryman, and to allow controllable automatic fire. Plenty accurate for zed killing ,and packing enough firepower to take care of other threats, the assault rifle is not a bad choice for the survivor, or the professional hunter.

AK-47:
Never described as accurate and tending to burn the user's front hand if fired extensively. Designed to be used by illiterate Maoist rebels with the technological know-how of a 1920s schoolboy, the AK has killed more than its share of people in skirmishes all over the world.... just not from very far away. This is one of the most durable rifles in existence, reliable, powerful and shooting a common, cheap caliber. It has been in use since the end of WW II and is probably the most common military rifle in the world. As a result of its intended users, it has a very simple design that requires very little cleaning and maintenance to keep it operational. This does not mean no maintenance!!
Some of its drawbacks include weight, accuracy, and a tricky loading procedure. It is a heavy weapon with heavy ammunition. Its stamped metal construction makes the receiver and barrel wobble when fired, resulting in poor accuracy (head shots will be tough). Lastly, when loading the magazine the shooter is required to place the front tip of the magazine into the rifle then roll it back into place for a correct fit and reliable feeding. This method can prove cumbersome to Westerners who are accustomed to weapons with receivers that can have magazines jammed straight into them. Overall a very good weapon that no one should be without.
WARNING: The AK-47 is, very much, a victim of it’s own hype; It’s highly inaccurate (it basically acts like a shotgun, due to the low tolerances that make it allegedly so reliable), and due to multiple stories of AK’s being maltreated (including one supposedly buried in mud for a year) and still ‘operating perfectly’ some users think it needn’t be treated properly; This fallacy of Communist Russian propaganda hides the fact that the weapons in these stories usually only fired a few shots, then became hopelessly ruined. Like it’s main rival, the AR-15 Series (including the M-16, M-4, and sniping, hunting, and shotgun variants), the MUST be cleaned, used or not, once per week and immediately after firing. (With this in mind, Mikhail KALASHNIKOV designed the gun, in the wood-stock variant, to include it’s own cleaning kit.) Do not fall for the hype of the AK; If you do not clean it properly and regularly, creosote building in the barrel will quickly foul the gas system, the barrel, and other critical components, causing the wepon to be a useless paperweight (stories from Russian Army troops in Afghanistan indicted it could be fouled in as little as 10 days with out routine maintenance, and even as little as 12 HOURS after firing if not cleaned immediately).
Caliber: 7.62×39mm
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt
Overall length:
- 34.3 in (870mm) fixed wooden stock
- 34.4 in (875mm) folding stock extended
- 25.4 in (645mm) stock folded

Rate of fire: 600 rounds per minute
Magazine capacity: 30-round detachable box magazine, also compatible with 40-round box or 75-round drum magazines from the RPK
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AKS-74U:
The AKS-74U is a cut down version of the previously mentioned AK-47. This weapon was designed to solve the need for a submachine gun for the Russian military. It is very compact (19 inches long, 28 with stock deployed) and has a special barrel that suppresses the flash from firing. Some models can also attach a suppressor. It is a very potent weapon against invading zombie hordes, with more support than a pistol and at least three times the ammo capacity in a smaller overall package. Even better, the standard AKS-74U comes equipped with a small grenade launcher on the side. However, its high recoil makes accuracy suffers at longer ranges, and it is also heavier than many other sub machine guns. The regular AKS-74U is chambered for the 5.45x39 cartridge, although many other variants chambered in different calibers exist .
WARNING: Like the AK-47, the AKS-74U is a victim of it’s own hype; It too MUST be cleaned and essentially overhauled once per week, or just after firing (whichever comes first).
Caliber:5.45x39mm
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt
Overall length:
- 19.3 in (943 mm) stock folded
- 37.1 in (700 mm) stock extended

US Armed Forces Standard M-16a3 Assault Rifle:
The M16 is the general-issue rifle with the US Armed forces. It is also widely used by the US Law Enforcement agencies, either in military form (for example, the LAPD had some M16s, retired from Army), or the civilian AR-15 (single-fire only). All the initial flaws of the M16 were long ago resolved, and now is considered the best assault rifle in the world. While its reliability in the harsh conditions cannot match the alleged

One of the key advantages of the Stoner design, that must be especially stressed, is the extreme flexibility of the construction. The M-16 has innumerable interchangeable upper receivers that are available in various barrel lengths and profiles (from 7 to 24 inches long, slim and heavy), in dozens of rifle and pistol calibers (from tiny but fast .17 Remington and up to monstrous .458 SOCOM, and from .22LR and 9mm Luger up to mighty .50AE). Special, manually single-shot uppers are commercially available in the extremely powerful .50BMG (12.7x99mm) caliber; There are even uppers for the Warsaw standard 7.62MM (typically used by special forces units) and shotgun calibers. Various lower receivers offer a broad variety of trigger units, butt stocks and other options. This advantage is viable for both military (especially Spec Ops), Law Enforcement, and civilian applications, as it allows to tailor any particular AR-15 type rifle to the current situation and tactical needs. The M-16 also has variable stocks, the fixed-length and viable length collapsing stock.
The M16A2 and M16A4 (M16A4 has a built in scope rail under the carrying handle) are burst fire where the M16, M16A1 and M16A3 are fully automatic.
There is a continuing misconception about the AR-15 Series (of which the M-16, M-4, and a few others are descendants) that they are unreliable; This myth was thoroughly debunked several times, including by a member of this very site. When asked how often his M-16 jammed in the dust and the shooting and all that crap that supposedly will kill a 16 in a clean room, Hell_Razor answered:
| The only time I've seen an AR type weapon jam to where it became inoperable was when I was putting Wolf ammo through my M&P 15. The only other times I've had to do something was when we were playing with blanks and blank adapters in basic and ait. Reason behind that is that by plugging the barrel, every last bit of carbon makes its way back to the chamber and fouls it up much sooner than live rounds. As for sand in Iraq, well it was kind of a bitch to clean, but the weapon never jammed on me. |
Another member went on to clarify the Wolf is a poor-quality ammo, so a word of advice is to avoid it whenever possible (regardless the caliber).
Another myth of the AR-Series it the stock; Supposedly, the fact that it’s made of plastic will break it. People who repeat this rumor are doing so with the intention of getting others killed, and should NEVER be listened to. (This rumor is true for Airsoft look-alikes, but not the real thing.)

M-4 Carbine Assault Rifle:
While lacking the range of the M16A2, the M4 carbine gives the user an edge in maneuvering the tight urban battlefields that will be ubiquitous when the zombies arrive.

| An M-231 Firing Port Weapon. |
The use of an M-231 is limited to the average survivor, because of a lack or stock or front sight; However, if you were to find one, do not discard it outright. If your AR-15/M-16/M-4 does go bad on you, you could readily adapt the M-231 to the existent stock (another advantage of Eugene's STONER'S brilliance).

The M-2Ø3 is a single-shot, breech-loading weapon with rifled barrel. The loading is achieved by sliding the aluminum barrel forward, then inserting the round of ammunition into the breech and sliding the loaded barrel back into the battery. The barrel is held in-battery by the manually controlled lock, which is disengaged by depressing the barrel catch lever at the left side of the launcher, above the middle of the barrel. The loaded cartridge is held at the breech face by the extractor claws, and remains stationary when barrel is opened forward. Once the barrel clears the fired case or unfired round, it is free to fall down from the breech face, so the next round can me loaded if necessary. The self-cocking firing unit with its own trigger is located at the rear of the M-2Ø3 receiver, also made from aluminum alloy. The manual safety in the form of the swinging flap is located inside the trigger guard, just ahead of the trigger. The rear part of the barrel is covered with polymer handgrip. The standard M-2Ø3 easily installs on the M-16A1 or M-16A2 type rifle, and installation requires about 5 minutes of work and a standard screwdriver for clamping screws. If necessary, M-2Ø3 can be mounted on a separate shoulder-stock/pistol grip assemblies (available from several companies, such as Colt or Knight’s Armament) to be used as a stand-alone weapon. Standard sights for M-2Ø3 are of ladder type, and graduated from 5Ø to 25Ø meters in 5Øm increments. The optional quadrant sight can be installed on the left side of the M-16A1/A2 carrying handle, and it allows aiming at the ranges of up to 1312 feet (4ØØ meters).

M-26 is a modular, manually operated, straight pull bolt action shotgun. The barrel is locked [probably] using the rotating bolt, the bolt handle could be mounted on either side of the bolt for ambidextrous handling. M-26 is fed using detachable box magazines which hold five rounds of 12 gauge ammo. Short barrels are fitted with special muzzle devices. By default, M-26 has no sights; When mounted under the rifle or carbine, shooter uses rifle sights to aim the attached shotgun. When M-26 is used in standalone mode, it is equipped with detachable pistol grip and M-4 style collapsible buttstock, and small handguards around the barrel. Integral Picatinny rail on the top of the M-26 receiver can then be used to mount various sighting equipment.

L85A1 GP Rifle:
The L85A1 (or AKA SA80) comprises the Individual Weapon (IW) and the Light Support Weapon (LSW). These are the British Army's standard combat weapons. Made by Royal Small Arms Factory And Royal Ordnance, they fire NATO standard 5.56 x 45 mm ammunition. L85A1 can be fitted with the SUSAT sight and a Common Weapon Sight (CWS) , which is a third generation Image Intensification (II) night sight.
Both weapons have been modified in light of operational experience, and there was a major mid-life update in 2002, which resulted in the SA80A2 series - the most reliable weapons of their type in the world. This reliability is combined with accuracy, versatility and ergonomic design. It is considered a first-class weapon system and world leader in small arms. The SA80 can also use an under-slung grenade launcher. The cleaning kit was originaly was meant to be kept inside the weapon but the oil bottle was under the hand gaurd and when firing, the bottle would melt as it was pressed next to the barrel. The pull through, bore/wire brush, nylon brush and some pieces of flannelette was kept in the pistol grip and the oil bottle in the hand guard.

So far I've heard very few complaints about this rifle, and a lot of good reviews and opinions. In fact, the only complaints about G36 that I know are the overheating of the hand guards during the sustained fire, and the loose of zero of built in scope on some G36KE rifles, used by certain police departments. Otherwise it is a really fine rifle, accurate, reliable, simple in operations and maintenance, and available in a wide variety of versions - from the short-barreled Commando (sometimes utilized as a SMG) G36C and up to a standard G36 rifle and the MG36 squad automatic (light machine gun). The G36, in severely modified form, also is used as a "kinetic energy" part of the US XM-29 OICW weapon. One version of the G36, the XM8, was once considered to replace the M16 pattern rifles of the US armed forces. However this rifle was considered dropped due to the same melting problems as the G36. However, it performed more reliably then the other contenders, jamming almost a quarter as much as the M4 carbine. The design of the XM8 also didn't allow for the use of the standard picatinny rail which means that no existing accessories (AIMpoints, ACOGs, Grenade launchers, and so on...) could be fitted to it. T.D.I. Kriss: .45 Sub-Machine Gun

The first truely innovative sub gun design since the Thompson of the early 1900s, the TDI Kriss uses the"super V system" to cut the heavy recoil of the venerable .45 ACP cartridge. As the bolt travels back, weights slide downward in the pistol grip, countering the muzzle climp and enhancing accuracy. Even at 1100 RPM, the recoil and muzzle climb is reported to be %90 less then some other weapons systems. In addition to the full auto variant, there is a civillian carbine with a semi auto mechanism and a 16inch barrel. TDI is planning to release an autoloading, 12 ga (3inch shells) shotgun utilizing the super V system, as well as a .50 BMG machine designed to improve on the near century old M2 design.
Cartridge: .45 ACP.
Action: super-v system.
Rate Of Fire: 800-1500 round /minute.
Feed System: 13-round detachable box magazine or 30 rounds w/optional 17 round extension.

Sniper Rifle:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are two types of sniper rifles. The bolt action, which improves accuracy, when you use this system, you use the bolt action to eject and chamber rounds. The semi-auto works just like the semi-auto rifle.
A bolt action sniper system is usually more accurate system than a semi-auto system due to the fact that the weapon is not shifting when the system ejects and extracts, allowing the shooter to remain on target, also allowing the shooter to reacquire the target quicker. A bolt action system is also easier to maintain due to less parts. A bolt action weapon does not eject empty cartridges very far, allowing the shooter to not leave traces. Most people don't remember to work the bolt action when firing the weapon. The semi-auto variety is easier to shoot because you don't have to work the bolt, and is also easier to reload to do the fact that you load a magazine instead of loading into the receiver as you would with a bolt action. But on the other hand, it's harder to maintain due to more parts. Sniper systems are meant to be used by highly trained, highly motivated shooters. Sniper training can be anywhere from weeks to years. Sniper weapon systems are also hard to maintain due to to the fact they are precisely made, each barrel, each trigger, everything is mated to that gun, and usually can not be changed out, or changed out very easily. When firing a sniper system, you must know how to: read the wind, read the heat, find the trace of the round so you know if you hit your target, you must know the wind at least three places to your target. You must also know how to find corealas (rotation of the earth, yes this affects the round). There are computer systems to do this, but they are not cheap, and usually not sold outside the military and police communities. To achieve maximum range and accuracy with the system you must have match grade rounds, which are hard to find and very expensive. You may fire regular rounds(everything from ball to armor piercing) but this will foul the system and degrade accuracy for both that shot and the shots to be followed. Sniper systems are also not viable close quarters weapon systems, they are very heavy and not a joy to drag about. To shoot these systems you usually have to be in a built up area, hidden, and open to fire through. When you use bigger systems, I.E. the Barret .50 to 25 mm anti material rifles, you also have to worry about your shooting area due to the enormous amount of back blast from the weapon system, if someone is standing next to the muzzle break (left or right) you can be hurt. And most of all, sniper systems are incredibly expensive, hard to maintain if you don't know the system, and have to be kept incredibly clean. You have to keep it clean at all times, so your constantly cleaning the system. Sniper systems can be suppressed, but suppressors are hard to get a hold of. If a skin job is far enough away to need this it can and should be avoided unless specifically hunting them. Sniper rifles are STRICTLY an aggrssive weapons option; In defense, they are pretty useless.

M-107 .50 Caliber Special Application Scoped Rifle (SASR) Long Range Sniper Rifle (LRSR):
T
Army snipers deliver precision fire against enemy targets that are outside a rifleman's limitations of range, size, location, mobility and visibility. The M-107 is derived from the M-82A1 commercial version of the weapon that is manufactured by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. of Murfreesboro, TN. It can defeat materiel targets located at distances beyond the range of the standard M-24 7.62mm Sniper Weapon System, Galeazzi said. In the hands of a trained sniper, the M-107 can surgically take out strategic targets while minimizing collateral damage. It is capable of hitting personnel targets as far away as 1500 meters and materiel targets out to 2000 meters.
The complete system includes the .50 caliber semi-automatic rifle, detachable 10-round magazine, variable-power day optic sight, transport case, tactical soft case, cleaning /maintenance equipment, detachable sling and adjustable bi-pod and manuals. It fires standard caliber .50 ammunition. The new rifle provides Army snipers a much needed solution that is tactically superior to other capabilities against materiel and personnel targets.
The M-107 .50 caliber long range sniper rifle is a new weapon being fielded to infantry snipers, with 700 in service. The Army's new .50 caliber sniper rifle design was initially designated the XM-107. At least two manufacturers of .50 caliber sniper rifles were in competition for the contract- Barrett and EDM Arms- And Barrett won the contract.
The M-107 is the Barrett Model 95, a smaller, lightweight .50 caliber rifle with emphasis on accuracy and durability. The bullpup design results in a compact rifle with no sacrifice on accuracy or velocity thanks to its cryogenically treated 29-inch (73.7 cm) barrel, the same length as the Model 82A1. Recoil is reduced by the dual-chamber muzzle brake and specially designed recoil pad.
The 3-lug bolt of the M-107 locks rigidly into the barrel extension, to accommodate the widest variety of factory ammunition loads. The adjustable bipod may be detached by removing a single quick-release pin. The M-107 is set up to mount a variety of telescopic sights and with good ammunition this combination usually produces minute of Angle (MOA) accuracy. The M-107 may be disassembled for cleaning without tools. 10 round magazines are available.

Anti-material guns aren’t new- The Finnish L39 Lahti, which fired the 20MM AP ammunition, proved devastating to Soviet tanks up until World War II. However, cost, recoil, and improving tank armor made them obsolete just as the war began. Slowly, however, anti-material weaps are making a comeback. Missiles have back blast, so they can not be fired in enclosed spaces, and are expensive, meaning each and every shot needs to count. Also, in the environments soldiers are now increasingly finding themselves (urban built up areas where the primary human threat is either dismounted infantry or modified civilian), missiles produce far and away more collateral damage than mom back home is ‘comfortable’ hearing about on the evening news. A cost effective anti-vehicular weapon which can limit that collateral damage to essentially nill is just what the anti-peace, anti-democracy, liberal media back home is continuously demanding.
Based on the existing M-107 design, the new M-109 has shown itself to be a reliable weap in the sand, mud, dirt and harsh field conditions experienced in Bosnia, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The M-109 will give the snipers who use them the ability to kill light armored vehicles out to 8,200 feet (2,500 meters), with the firepower of an Apache helicopter.
Considered too heavy to be truly considered offensive weapons, both the M-107 and the M-109 will neverthless excel in the defense. Firing a small DPHE warhead, the M-109 is perfectly capable of stopping a vehicle without obliterating it.
The centerpiece of the M-109 system is the 25MM HEDP ammunition it fires, a scaled down derivative of the low velocity 30MM HEDP M-789 ammunition fired by the AH-64 Apache. It is expected that this ammunition can penetrate nearly an inch and a half (40 mm) of armor plating at 130 feet (500 m), or blast open doors from around the corner. In other words, it gives the Soldier breaching capability on fortified positions, while minimizing exposure to enemy fire, thanks to its effectiveness at greater distances. Also in the works are a number of specialized rounds, ranging from solid core AP ammunition to non-lethal/ crowd control munitions utilizing inert rubber balls, and RC agents.
Barrett has also developed an integrated ballistic computer/riflescope system, Barrett Optical Ranging System (BORS). Historically, long range shooting has been a highly technical endeavor in which the shooter had to make a number of calculations before the trigger could be pulled. These calculations included range to the target, the effects of barometric pressure and air temperature, and the type of ammunition loaded. BORS automatically calculates all these variables, and adjusts the sight reticule accordingly; The shooter need only put the target under the crosshairs and pull the trigger.
The M-109 isn’t going to turn the tide in the war against the skin jobs by itself, but it will make it a lot easier.

Explosives
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG):
The word RPG is a loose term describing hand-held, shoulder-launched anti-tank weapons capable of firing an unguided rocket equipped with an explosive warhead. RPG is a transliteration of РПГ, the Russian abbreviation of Reaktivnyy/Ruchnoy Protivotankovyy Granatomyot (реактивный/ручной противотанковый гранатомёт) which translates to hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher. Most contemporary main battle tanks (MBTs) are largely immune to hand-held unguided anti-tank weapons due to advances in armor design requiring more precise aiming to hit vulnerable weak spots. However, RPGs are still used effectively against lightly-armoured vehicles such as armored personnel carriers or unarmored wheeled vehicles as well as buildings and bunkers. One notable exception is the most advanced model, the RPG-29, which uses a tandem-charge HEAT warhead capable of destroying even modern MBTs such as the T-90. In August 2006, an RPG-29 round penetrated the frontal reactive armor of a top-of-the-line Challenger 2 tank during an engagement in Iraq. The RPG7 has a two stage booster, and has less back blast then a typical rocket weapon. This enables it to be fired from a building with less danger then similar weapons. Generally, these weapons aren't very useful, they have the same effect as a ranged hand grenade. It may disperse a crowd, and cripple some zeds, but the chance of kills is slim.

Napalm:
One part gasoline and one part Styrofoam, napalm is not technically an explosive but is deadly to humanoids all the same. It will stick to a zombie better than conventional gas and is downright deadly in a molotov cocktail. Keep in mind, however, that it can stick to you and your friends as well. It will not burn out until it runs out of fuel, and in some cases kerosene and other flammable liquids will be more suitable.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M-2 .50 Cal Browning Machine Gun:
The M-2 .50 Cal Browning Machine Gun first saw service in WW II and is still in use today. One of the most fearsome battlefield weaps ever designed, it is able to penetrate unarmored and lightly armored targets with ease. However, its destructive power is limited against skin jobs, as you will end up with a field of twitching, crawling skin jobs that would all need to be finished off (although that beats a mob of active, hostile, mobile, and agile ones that require quite a bit more effort to disable).

Sub-Machineguns (SMGs):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Accuracy is one of the submachine gun’s downfalls. Most submachine guns are stated as being accurate to anywhere between 300 to 500 yards. However, this is only when it comes to suppressing an enemy or taking center mass body shots. A head shot from 300 yards, even in semi-auto would be lucky at best. Muzzle rise in a full auto setting is also an a issue. Most submachine guns should only be fired in short bursts for the best results. Finally, any submachine gun imported to the United Stated after 1985 is only capable of semiautomatic fire with the exception of models available to military and law enforcement. This is why a 1985 full-auto submachine gun fetches upwards of $7,000 to 10,000, and they are getting harder and harder to find. Pairing a submachine gun such as a Uzi or MP5 with a assault-style or bolt-action rifle would be your best bet.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although mostly removed from service, the M134 is still used on aircraft, especially helicopters. The M-134 has a rate of fire of around 4,000 rounds per minute and can only be used in 4-5 second bursts, and because of this you would never be able to find enough ammunition to make this weapon anywhere near usable, why spray a group of even one hundred with this when a rifle team could in theory take down 4,000.

Produced by Fabrique Nationale (Belgium), the M240 7.62mm medium machinegun is the replacement for the M60 machinegun. While possessing many of the same basic characteristics as the M60 Series medium machineguns, the durability of the M240 system results in superior reliability and maintainability when compared to its predecessor.
It is a left hand belt-fed (using the M13 Link), gas operated, air cooled, fixed head space weapon. The gun can be used as a coaxial/pintle mounted machinegun for tanks and light armored vehicles, door gunner’s weap, infantry support weap, or fixed position (ground) weap. It can be fired from a bipod, the M122A1 tripod (originally used with the Browning M1919 infantry machinegun), from an overhead mounting strap, from the M31c, or used in a more traditional manner (like an assault rifle, from the shoulder).

9mm Parabellum Luger:
The primary sidearm of the German army during WW2, the "Artillery Model" 9mm Luger makes an ideal zombie slaying weapon. The pistol has an 8 inch barrel (some have 4, 6 or even 10 inch barrels) and chambered for the 9mm parabellum cartridge. Now what makes this gun stand out from other sidearms is that the Luger has an optional drum magazine and detachable shoulder stock. The drum magazine has a 32 round capacity and that, coupled with the long barrel and shoulder stock (not to mention excellent standard sights) makes this a a nice dual purpose firearm. Carried alone, without the drum/stock, it is a great backup weapon, however adding the aforementioned accessories allows the gun to function as a short carbine. . There are problems with the Luger however, such as getting used to the sights, and the meticulous cleaning that is required to keep it in working order. This alone keeps it from being an ideal carbine.

FM-9 Rifle from Magpul Industries: advertised as being good for taking out the garbage or walking the dog. There is a very limited planned production of this sub machine gun. It is basically a folding 9mm Glock, with a 30rd mag, a taclight, and a vertical grip.

Broomhandle Mauser:
The first handgun produced by Mauser in 1898 in Germany. This gun was one of the first actual personal defense weapons of the age. This is my personal favorite handgun because of its versatility, power and support, every broom handle Mauser, including all of its variants, comes with a shoulder stock that doubles as a holster, so this pistol also doubles as a carbine. Along with impressive and some would argue superior firepower, this handgun, depending on what kind, can have an ammo capacity ranging from 6 to 40 rounds in automatic models. Most models used the 7.63mm ammo but in world war 1 a new model was created, its pictured above, the Red 9. It was called this because it chambered the 9mm parabellum round used by German handguns. As proof that this a fantastic sidearm, Chinese police forces are usually armed with these guns, though exports of Red 9 models are rare, they can still be found from time to time.Of course every gun has drawbacks, its size would make it your primary firearm when the dead advance, along with amount of ammo available, and with reliability issues similar to the Luger.

Patriot Ordnance Factory P-415/416:
"As far-fetched as this may sound, we have had a P415 for long-term test and evaluation and have yet to clean or lubricate it other than to wipe the internal parts with a dry shop towel to remove what little fouling gets into the receiver. Because the receiver interior is plated with silicon nickel and the other operating components are hard chromed, they are self-lubricating and nothing sticks to them." - Guns-Weapons Magazine, April 2008 Issue.
This is the Patriot Ordnance Factory P-415/416 (.223/5.56 NATO) rifle. I was reading about it's big brother the P-308 (.308/7.62 NATO) in Guns-Weapons magazine and it peaked my interest, especially with regards to Zombie destruction. One thing you don't want to deal with with regards to the undead is your weapon jamming on you at the wrong time or you needing to baby your weapon with constant cleaning. Both models are "self lubricating" as mentioned in the article quote above as well as being extremely accurate and reliable. Just as our soldiers in war have found out, the M16 platform of weapons are having issues with reliability and maintenance. They are high on maintenance and low on reliability. One of the problems that requires large amounts of maintenance with the rifle is carbon fouling. This then requires excessive lubrication. This unfortunately, attracts dust and sand in environments high in these elements which in turns requires more maintenance. The direct impingement gas system also helps to create the large amount of carbon fowling inherent to the M16 platform. This rifle seems to fix and/or at least alleviate many of these problems. Imagine a rifle that doesn't require lubrication (or at least, a very, very small amount) and can be cleaned just by wiping a towel over the internal parts. Also, it continues working in harsh environments, maintains accuracy and reliability, low maintenance, etc. Once more third party verification of these claims can be dug up, I'll be standing in line for one. It will set you back $2,000.00 to start (not including taxes) but if it lives up to it's claims, then it's the rifle for me.

Applicability: Since the M-307/312 is really two guns in one, a .50 cal machinegun and a 25MM autocannon, it can be used on a far greater variety of targets, and provide potentially critical fire support when overrun. However, this particular weaps system is not really idea for use in the field, where weight and space constraints will wear down ever the best-built vehicles, and certainly will overwhelm a two-man team trying to avoid the skin jobs. Therefore, this should probably be considered a secondary or tertiary weaps system for an up-armed platform (technical or gun truck), or as a fire support platform for fixed-position defenses (such as a survivor camp), with special emphasis on village gateways.
The 307 can be converted to a 312 in about 120 seconds (one team got it down to 108 seconds) by switching out four parts; Barrel, Breach assembly, Feed tray, and Cover. It is actually controlled by the grips on the side, with a viewer screen supplying the aiming data, reducing the “wander” effect of free-gun M-2’s. Though like all guns it does have some recoil, it is infinitely far less than the Ma Deuce’s kicking mule effect (which reduces accuracy by exasperating the wander of the barrel, especially in free gun mode).

P90
An innovate design from FN Herstal of Belgium, the FN90 is a PDW (personal defense weapon) designed to give vehicle crews, artillerymen, cooks, clerks, and other personnel an easy handling weapon with greater penetration and range then a pistol. The 5.7mm cartridge gives a low recoil impulse, even at 900 RPM, and the unique magazines carry 50 rounds.(the mags are even clear so you can visually check how man rounds you have left.) However, the magazines are fairly bulky and will not fit in all mag pouches. Its high velocity ammo can penetrate soft vests and standard ballistic helmets at 50 meters. While armor piercing ammo typically makes no difference in smaller calibers to zed killing, the round still gives the P90 a longer effective range then an average handgun, easily 150 meters. The P90 can come with either a built in reflex sight (which also has a side mount for a flashlight) or a triple rail system on the upper reciever (a long one on top and one on each side), and some have an integral laser sight under the barrel (the one in the above image has one, look for the laser warning sticker). Although the P90 has a very strange look and different operation then your average sub gun, it is fully ambidextrous and is designed from the ground up for ergonomics and simple design (the gun with break into the lower and upper reviever with a single button). Due to the P90's unique handling, reading an online source alone can not tell you whether you will like it or not. Look for an airsoft replica (Look for Tokyo Marui and Echo1) if you cannot easily find a PS90 (the semi auto civillian version) and try out the controls. Almost 30 nations have adopted a form of this weapon for various purposes, although usually for VIP protection and special forces units. Even with the growing adoption of the P90, the 5.7mm is still not as common as others such as the 9mm parabellum or the 5.56mm nato, making it near impossible to find ammo in an outbreak.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nuclear Weapons:
Nuclear warfare can be very dangerous. Of course the bomb is very dangerous and should be handled with care, but if you launch this at an area infested with zombies (such as a town) DO NOT plan on going back and settling any where within 90 miles of the area you just hit. The effect can be felt from as little a 5 miles (for suitcase nukes) to 300+miles (for the big ICBM's); Potentially crippling radiation, dependant on the weather, can range up to 5 times as far as the initial blast.
After the bomb is dropped a dangerous amount of radiation will collect all over the area and will stay there froma as little as 10 years (as was the case in Hiroshima) up to 40 years (the effect of Chernobal are still being felt), thus making the land pretty much unsuitable for any sort of life, unless you happen to own hermetically-sealed radiation suits, for quite a while. A nuclear weapon is a type of explosive weapon that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions of fusion or fission. As a result, even a nuclear weapon with a small yield is significantly more powerful than the largest conventional explosives, and a single weapon is capable of destroying an entire city and burning everything within about a 5-mile radius, while further irradiating hundreds of miles about the blast area. Two nuclear weapons were detonated as an offensive action by the United States during the closing days of World War II. These bombings resulted in the immediate deaths of around 120,000 people from injuries sustained from the explosion and acute radiation sickness, and even more deaths over time from long-term effects of radiation. But as a disclaimer, these weapons are EXTREMELY illegal and EXTREMELY hard to obtain. Also, the radation may not kill Zack, and additionally COULD add to their deadliness by allowing them to spread radiation poisoning; Therefore, if you choose a nuclear solution, you MUST station troops in the near-by area to ensure any surviving skin jobs are killed as they flee.
Use is not recommended unless whole city and surrounding area are deemed permanently lost to the undead. In the extremely unlikely event that you get one in your possession (by stealing, buying, borrowing, or finding), you should probably check to see if you are awake and leave it there since they are difficult to utilize, prone to accidents in untrained hands, and not generally very useful to the average survivor. You would be well-profitted to take a sledgehammer to any that you may find, focusing on the electroince first, then smashing up the high-explosive required to start the unrestricted chain reaction in the plutonium, to ensure the weap is not used on YOU by others.

The SPAS-12 also has a magazine cut-off feature that, when activated, prevents the loading of a new round from the internal magazine when the slide is opened. This allows the operator to load a specialized round into the chamber without going through the entire magazine first. Early SPAS-12 models also featured a lever-type safety, but it tended to malfunction. This was later replaced by a push-button safety. This shotgun fires 2¾ inch shells, and was not made to fire 3 inch shells.
The SPAS-12 comes with an optional folding stock, which can carry a large hook at the end for use as a carrying handle or for bracing the weapon while firing with one hand. Full stocks are also available, as are pump-mounted tactical flashlights and laser sights. Some versions of the SPAS-12 come with a shorter 5-round magazine instead of the usual 8-round magazine.
Although now illegal in the United States, the weapon itself is still available. And times change...Assault
