One problem for some people regarding vehices will be the transmission type. Many performance vehicles and heavy duty vehicles such as semi-trailers use manual transmissions. For some of us, that just makes the drive more enjoyable. But for many, they'll see numbers and an extra pedal instead of a D and will promptly start shaking their heads.

Just to let you all know, because I think this is something important to discuss, the ice storm that hit the north and northeastern states has crippled western kentucky. parts of Western Kentucky is just now getting electricity after losing it last tuesday. That being said....
I live in Southern Illinois, about an hours drive north of the storm damage, and we had run out of gas and other things in our stores because people from western kentucky were coming here because it was the closest place for them to get it since power was out everywhere else and no businesses were open. This made me think of how fast supplies like gasoline, canned food, bottled water etc. would run out in a crisis. does this fact change anything for you guys? im rethinking my plans

Most seem to accept "crowded, useless roads" as a universal foregone conclusion. I challenge that assertion based upon a number of factors: speed of outbreak, urban vs. suburban vs. rural scenarios, etc.
If you find this interesting, please discuss. I'll reply/post further as well.
