I live in a large city and would need to travel 300km to my parents small private island in northern Ontario, Canada. It has 2 cottages and independent water supply, speed boat and row boat. The hard part is getting there. I have a 72 hour kit and the journey should take 3 days on foot. I have hope of going some distance in my dodge caliber. And I don't have a gun. I know self-defence, but would prefer to avoid confrontations. So unfortunately, I wouldn't be going anywhere to pick up supplies.
I have a 9 iron golf club in the closet by the front door. I'd also bring bear spray and a small sharp kitchen knife.
I would avoid major highways and try to drive out of the city. There's a good possibility I'd need to hike. I'm good at map reading, so I could find my way north avoiding towns and cities where possible. I would probably follow the train tracks to avoid roads and because they would direct me most of the way. If there isn't a deviation around a town, I would try to find another way around.
I know my plants in Europe, but they can be different here. So I'm not sure how well that would translate here.
I would travel during the day to cover more distance. I wouldn't want to waste time looking for places to sleep, so I'd try seeing if I could nail a hammock high in a tree and hope nothing smells me.
The hardest part would definitely be getting out of the city. But I'd have to see the situation and try to adapt to it as I go.

So my friend owns over 30 guns (mostly handguns, shotguns, and rifles) and 5,000 rounds of ammunition total. He also has a large knife collection and several axes of multiple sizes. In addition, he has a really loud sound system which has forced him to sound-proof the entire house with lead. The windows are also sound-proof. the house is on the outer corner of a street that curves at a 90 degree angle. Anybody have suggestions for improving it as a post-apocalyptic hideout?
