My survival plan is a bit new, but should work pretty well. basically, i live on an island with less than 12,000 people. the bridges we have to get to the mainland, and a nearby , larger island, are quite close to one another, easily defensible, and almost a mile long. their are several farms on our island, lots of food, a police station with several small arms. plus a hardware store, boats, and a large food bank. i have a minimal knowledge of explosives, and our local drug store has enough pure alcohol that in a sitch, that i could blow up both of our bridges. on top of this, we have a relatively large naval installation on that other island. basically, my plan is to take our school buses, and block of the bridges while organizing a large scale shelter, like our elementary school, which has a generator, and several sniper spots. we have water towers, and a lot of other necessary supplies, allowing us lots of time without leaving the island. if you have any suggestions, please give them.

First I grab my baseball bat, my boy scout knife, a few sets of clothes, my boots and hiking backpack and get my family friends and supplies. Next I get into my family car and we drive to my summer camp. The camp is in the middle of no where, has a big resivior nearby, plenty of generators, and a farm section that can feed us. Also did i mention there is always at least 100-200 people there and in the summer there are 300+.

So we know what TO do during an outbreak, but what about what NOT to do?
1. Anything in the OP of my "Improvised and Readily available Weapons" thread. XD 2. Going anywhere close to, likely to have, or already with a high (100+ people) population. Examples Include: -Malls -Summer Camps (and other popular recreational facilities) -Schools -Housing Complexes -Major population centres (cities like NY, Toronto, etc) 3. Hoarding weapons 4. Wasting ammo (like shooting a zombie after it's dead) feel free to post other ideas you may have, and I will add them to the list. With a reference, of course.

The way I see it, standard firearms are not readily available to everyone. Therefore, I would suggest learning how to create and utilise improvised weapons.
First off is a makeshift grenade using rope, a can of spray (eg, Axe deodorant or air freshener) and a lighter. All of which are readily available from many stores around the world. Tape a sizeable piece of string, longe enough that it can be lit and the grenade thrown before the fire reaches the pressurized spray and blows up. Simply light the rope with the ligter, and throw it. DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, try to 'cook' the grenade. Throw it right away. Using similar tools, one can also make an improvised flamethrower. Just take a similar spray, hold it at arms' length in front of you, and spray over the lighter. Stepping away from the zombie horde is also a good idea, to avoid being lunged at by a particular desperate zombie. You can also find hunting equipment along the lines of Crossbows, Bow-and-Arrow, and even hunting rifles in the hunting section of your local mall (if there is one). However, don't count on finding anything there, they'd be priority-one objectives for a scavenger. As a final word, don't take anything for granted! Consider every possibility! This page may be updated.

First i would do is board up my house for a defensive. Then TRY to contact some friends and family. In my opinion, the more the merrier. I would then gather all my supplies and ration them, for me and my family. I plan on waiting in my secure home for about 2 weeks. I would defend myself and others with my mosin nagant and my .22, I have plenty of rounds. after that, myself and a select few would move to our rally point to prepare for the rest of the group, we would clear and secure a local furniture store. we would block the rear entryways, and set up a barricade at the front. the front would not be the best defense for a while, but we would have a constant watch. soon after the rest of the group would come. then when the room is set up we would have a meeting to settle on who does what for the group, it depends a lot on what they did before Z-day. we would need mechanics, medical, any kind of maintenance, etc. then we would get to work. we would then build rooms on the interior, for living and a work space. we would then begin to construct a defense, such as a ten ft concrete wall, a pit, and guard towers. we would build the wall so that we could have distance between it and the store to grow crops and raise animals (rabbits, chickens, cattle and pigs) for food. we would get all of our supplies by raiding and scavenging other stores near by. we would get energy from solar panels that we got of the top of the middle school. as for water, we have two lakes near by, we would gather t up, bring it back and purify it by boiling it, and purification tablets. we would keep building, and develop a civilization within our walls. We would come to agreements by voting. we would accept other survivors, but before letting them in, we would make them remove all weapons, and our medical team would look them over for bites and any other sort of infection.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. any comments or criticism let me know.

Hey everyone, new member here. Thought this would be a good place to start. I welcome criticism.
When the apocalypse hits, I'm hunkering down in my own home. I actually do have a fairly decent amount of supplies. I try to make it a point when I go to the grocery store to buy a couple cans of beans, fruit, spam, etc. (not to mention spam is freaking delicious). I also pick up the big jugs of water since they're all on sale for a buck. Right now, I've probably got enough food and water to last my wife and I between 7-10 days without having to venture out, and that;s without rationing what we have. This is acceptable to me. I figure it will take about 7-10 days for the big dust to settle. My home is in a cul-de-sac, single family, in Virgina. I'm close to the mountains and giant rock quarry. My downstairs windows are glazed with security film. Won't stop a bullet, but will take some hard hits with a crow bar to break through. I have a basement with 1 entrance and easily seal-able. I'll probably stay upstairs though with my wife. Now to the good stuff...weapons. I have 2 mossberg 500's with 20 inch barrels, both with 7 shot capacity. I also have a Springfield XD-45, and an AK-47. Total combined I have plenty of magazines and a few thousand rounds of ammo. Not quite enough for 6billion people in the world....but it'll keep them off my yard at least for a little while. When supplies get low, hopefully dust is settled. We pack, take our radios, head for the mountains and make shelter somewhere near water. After that, I figure we get busy repopulating and start enjoying freedom from a mortgage and taxes.

I just came up with this "plan" the other day, I think it is much better than my original, horrible plan. So anywho lets just jump right on into this disaster.
So, I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment on the outskirts of my little town. (About a population of 5,800) My roomate has been my best friend for 14 years now which means I can trust him, okay okay, now I will get into my plan. So, I already have a BOB all made up (I will be making a post of its contents at a later time) And so does my partner. My plan is rather simple, grab the BOBs and make our way to the BOL, thankfully since we live on the edge of town we'll be able to make it out rather quickly. Now then, our BOL is his cabin out in the middle of nowhere, and by nowhere i mean in the middle of the woods with the closet town being a small (about 600 population) which is 10 miles away. Right behind the cabin is a freshwater spring where we will be able to get our water and there is also a rather large garden where we can grow our vegetables. There is already a large stock of canned goods at the cabin and guns and ammo, thats where we stay when we go on our hunting trips. As for the wild life in the area there are squirrels, rabbits, deer which we will hunt and it seems with every year there are more and more of them. And i figure we could just live out our life there living off of the land. -Skills- I myself have been shooting guns for roughly 6 years now, I'm not trying to say I am a god with a gun but I am a pretty decent shot. I easily adapt to new situations when things don't go according to plan which could prove handy I have been hunting since i was a kid and I have experience with setting traps, fire-starting, making make-shift shelters As for my partner, he has been working on a farm all his life, so he knows about planting and managing crops. More to come about plan B and other options

Me and my hubby have talked about it mostly as what would happen if the economy crashed and all hell broke out, but with a few mods we came up with this zed survival plan. We would be Bugin people. I live on a four acre plot of land where I have a hand full of goats and chickens plus a few alpaca. I like gardening and we grow a fair share of our own fruits and vegetables. Hubby and I share the same interests of always being fascinated with how our ancestors got by without all the 'conveniences' we have now and have picked things up here and there. So a basic over view of what we would do in an out break is as follows.
1. One calls up the family/close friends and alerts them (a.k.a. call tree). For those who want too, have them head to our house. The other jumps on the ATV and rounds up the livestock and shuts them up in the barn. 2. Board up the weak spots in the house and reinforce the door. 3. Once a few people show up, check them for contamination. Kick out anyone who is infected. Yeah I know it sounds cruel, but unless you want to up the chance of an outbreak in the compound it has to be done. 4. Have a few people stay behind to hold down the compound and keep it out of raiders hands while the rest of us grab guns and ammo. 5. Head to town in the truck with the horse trailer for extra storage to make our rounds (Our town is very small. Pop. is a little more than 1k). 6. Main places we would hit are the grocery store, construction store, gun store, electronic store, plumbers store and what the locals call the seed shack. Note: Some food can be used as trade for guns and ammo if needed. It's a win-win without someone getting shot. 7. Head back to the house and unload. 8. Repeat steps when needed. In the end its good to have a basic, flexible plan because lots of things can happen that throws a too detailed plan out the window.

I'm new, and, while I have been thinking up a plan for a while, it, of course, will have plenty of holes in it. So, could you please point them out to me.
I live in Nottingham, And am a Teenager. And, so, if the Zombie Apocalypse was to happen, say, now, My only supplies would be knives from the kitchen, a metal chair leg of mine, cylindrical, and pack of cards and a stick. But, I get £5 a week, and am currently saving up to build my a survival kit for myself, just in case. Gear I will, hopefully have, as, in time, i'll have the funds to buy the following, or have them in my house : Metal Baseball Bat Knives Metal Chair leg, baton-ish shaped, if neccasary, a mop, the end cut off and sharpened, and, possibly, a Bow and arrows, which I know how to make, and use, In theory. In theory, town, I think, is where most people would become zombies,or die, so, for the frist 2-4 days, once the Zombie outbreak had begun, I would stay at home, in which time, I think, Zombies would move out, towards where I live, on the edge of the city, about 10 minutes by Bus from Town. In this time, I would go to Clifton, and, if, by this point, the command structure had broken down and the law had become almost nothing, thus assuming the Outbreak is wide, I would loot the Mccolls there, and, potentially, set up a temporary base in it- about 2 stories, realitively small, with squared bars on the window, so if zombie were trying to get in, I'd only have to barricade the door. As far as I know, that door is the only entrance. After that, I'd go back home, asuming I didn't run into zombies, and, If I did, a small number I could handle. A larger number, I run. Also, I would be doing this, most likely with the help of my twin, who also has a plan. We go back home, and wait another day.Thishis is where my plan fails. After this I have no plan, except, to get into Nottingham castle. What are the problems?

Alternate
• Pre Apocalypse: I Have the guns and will get the protection needed soon enough, and I am making a BOB soon enough. I have about 6-10 people in my party and we are all pretty capable people and ready for the hardships during the apocalypse. • Day one Alternate: Everything I said before wont change except if the roads are clogged and there is no way out of the city then we will head into the sewers for about 1 or 2 weeks. By then the city would have been bombed and we wont have to worry about being outside. The only problem is having zombies in the sewers but we will be able to dispatch them quite easily. • Week one alternate: Lets say the city has already been bombed because if it hasn’t we would obviously stay in the sewers. We would emerge and likely take a house over as our HQ and fortify it in the day if there isn’t many zombies around. The house will hopefully be on the outskirts of town if not completely out of it. • Week two: We will have to start building and hopefully will have survivors to come help. What I mean by help is if they look like raiders, highwaymen, or basically anyone who would try to kill us we will shoot on site. • Life after outbreak: Same as week two.

Primary
• Pre Apocalypse: I Have the guns and will get the protection needed soon enough, and I am making a BOB soon. I have about 6-10 people in my party and we are all pretty capable people and ready for the hardships during the apocalypse. • Day one of the break out: My family and I will do a 3 hour emergency run through the house getting everything we need, and by then I will have protection. After about 3 hours outside should have died down a bit (no pun intended) and we will head for the high school designated to meet the other comrades. From the high school we will have about 3 cars and will know how to hotwire. If the roads aren’t clogged then we will make our way to Wyoming. • Week one after out break: I have multiple routes to get into Wyoming, and the first route hits no major highway all the way up. The second has one part that hits the highway for a half a mile. • Week two after out break: It will take a little less than one week to get to our designated location in which we will have fortification set up but not enough to last for more than a month or so. We will have to start building and hopefully will have survivors to come help. What I mean by help is if they look like raiders, highwaymen, or basically anyone who would try to kill us we will shoot on site. • Life after outbreak: This pretty much is the same as week two. |

The key to planing for an urban survival situation is to come up with a plan no one else thought of, because chances are if someone else thought of it, EVERYONE thought of it. Don't think that just because your still living means someone won't hesitate to pop you off for that last gallon of water.
The basic requirements: Travel light, think before you pack, would you wanna carry an 80 pound bag clear across town? and thats a short distance when your planing to survive. Reuse, recycle: When packing your "bug-out" pack, now is the BEST time to think of things you can reuse, or if they break or are used up, can be recycled. My plan: I haven't put much thought to it but in the event of a zombie related apocalypse I'm going to pack what I can from home, take my vehicle down to the docks, collecting gas on the way. When I get there, maybe try to find a ship qualified enough to travel to Ireland. Once there, i'd locate and fortify a castle. Once a safe haven was established, i'd begin branching out from there, searching for survivors, and supplies and gradually bring them to the castle. I have lots of seeds for vegetables and fruits, so i'd start a garden inside the protective walls. Thats that, if I get offed while i'm away from the castle then some lucky survivor gets a nice place :)

We live in a pretty secluded area, about 30km from town.
I would get dad to get the truck, pack a couple of shotties/guns. Then, I would get dad to drive into town to pick up my friend's (He thinks about Zombies too). I would then get dad to loot some petrol and food out of a store. Next, we would drive back to the farm and hold the fort there, till the chaos dies down. Then I would get into the vehicle, and drive to the village. Find anyone who is alive, kill the zombies, and try to build a comunitee there. If that fails, we drive back home, blow the bridge and try to hold out a bit longer, till we get some Evac

Being 15, my plan might not be taken seriously, I might end up in the traffic jams during The Panic.
The first thing we would do on hearing about the zombies is barricade the windows. Then we would proceed to move food, pets, family members, to the center of the house. Then after about 3 weeks, or when we run out of food, we would start to consider bugging out. We would take the highway south to Destin (about 20 miles), avoiding any zombies along the way. If we run out of gas, or have engine problems, we would dump everything except bare necessities, then proceed on foot. Arriving in Destin, we would go to the harbor and try to find a boat (preferably a sailboat). If we could not find a boat, we would look in all of the residential docks. Upon finding said boat, we would start sailing westward, sticking to the coast and picking up any boats and survivors we run across (Admiral Thomas). Eventually, we would make it to Fort Gaines. The reason I picked the fort is because I know the area well and it is near the Gulf. The first thing we would do, other than clearing out the zombies that may be there, would be to check the defenses and block the lower cannon ports. Then we would set up a watch schedule. We would get our water from the fort's well, and grow our food in the courtyard. But in the time it takes to grow the food, we would have to organize raids into the local buildings, the closest being 100ft away from the wall. After we have gotten a good harvest of whatever we decide to grow, we would start to lessen the raids. At that point, we would attempt to contact anyone in the vicinity, whether friend or foe. If they are not hostile, we would check them for bites, then let them in with limited privileges. If they are hostile, then we would deal with them. Slowly, we would expand outwards into the town around the fort, and it would assume more of a medieval role, being a place to run retreat to.

1 - I am taking to the hills immediately. The Peoria river valley is laced with deep, untravelled ravines and washes that run from the bluffs to the river proper. I have tried many of the creek beds ahead of time and know I can easily traverse them down from the bluffs where I live in the heights to the valley floor while only having to cross a total of two major roads. Since I inevitably believe that the roads will be too clogged with idiots trying to get out and nuts with fire arms, crossing as few roads as possible while carrying nearly a hundred pounds of gear is for the best. Having a good set of topographical maps of the region really help in planning these routes. My escape route also takes me along the way to several friend's houses. I plan on getting out but if I can get some of my trusted friends with me, all the better. Especially since I am the DIY survivalist, they are the gun nuts.
2 - Crossing the river - I know I shouldn't be heading east but I got family to reach on foot. The barrier here is unfortunately the Peoria river itself. The bridges won't be safe, which is why I have purchased a small inflatable boat. Roughly 20 pounds including pump. I use it all the time for fun so I know it works. I know it can't get more than 2 people at a time on it... and I have to use inflatable floats on my back pack (I have done a test run). But if I only have 3 to 5 people... at the narrow point of crossing, it would only mean about 30 minutes to an hour running back and forth and then deflating the boat again. While not needing it, you never know when a small inflatable will be useful. 3 - Hiking - Most of us know how to cross country hike so from here, it is turn on the emergency radios, assess the situation, try to make contact with families before the power goes out via CB and ham radios (2 of us have licenses), and plan from there where to move next. |

When the apocalypse hits, me and some of my friends and all of our families are headed to our school. The school is within a few miles of all of our houses. We will fit as much food and water into our cars as possible. One of my friends is supplying the weapons (he's a gun nut who has plenty of guns and ammunition). Another one of my friends parents own multiple grocery stores. Another one of my friends has many barn animals that can provide us with resources (sheep, goats, chickens, and pigs). The school is near a large forest filled with wildlife and a lake plentiful with fish. The school's walls are made of thick and strong bricks. Our main camp would be on the roof. There is only one way to get up there (first, you go through a locked door into a small closet where you have to pull down a ladder and then climb it). There are some weaknesses though. There is a large library with many windows (possible solution: use the bookcases to completely block out the windows). There are a good amount of entrances and many of them are made of glass (possible solution: being a school there are many large desks and tables to barricade entrances). Another advantage is the gym. Our gym has baseball bats, bows and arrows, and other bludgeoning weapons. What do you think of our plan?

Hey guys, been forever, been learning much more while I've been away. Hope alls good with ya. OK now for the good stuff. I've put together a list of tools for survival, granted it would need to be carried in a vehicle for everything to be transported, but thats fine. I got the idea from the non zombie movie RED DAWN. For those who havent seen it, its WWIII when the russians and cubans invade America. A group of middle and highschoolers excape town, hit a shop that had basic gear. The owner is the father of one of the kids (lucky). They head for the mountains and woods. They stay there for a year maybe. Now, it wouldnt take much to tweak this list for Zombie wars, but the general idea is survival first, fighting second. I'm planning to head to Pecos, New Mexico. It has a freshwater spring, bass river, indian caves (I'm part cherrokee, chawtaw, apache and blackfoot for trivia), big game, basically everything youd ever need. All you need is a little bit of training, I learned alot from the sites of www.wildwoodsurvival.com and www.m4040.com . I allready know that I have friends thatll head that way in case the Sh^t hits the fan be it zombies, terrorists, war, whatever senario you like.
Mostly the plan is pick out a good camp ground and camp. Boiled down thats what it is. If I gotta deal with the occasional peckerhead looking to scrap, thats fine. Itll be rough terrain for zombies to walk let alone climb. I could imagine alot just falling off a cliff, but I'm set to deal with the ones that doesnt fall. Now for my credentials: I am proficient in CQC bladed combat, weapons of choice kukri, bowie, machete, but doesnt mean I cant use something else like a tomahawk or axe. I have a 98.8% sniping accuracy, stationary and moving targets at several hundred meters with a good scope. I am a trapper and I can rig traps for zombies like a pigsnare wich can double to get food. (pigsnare, the thing the rock got caught in in the rundown)

Hold Out There For As Long As Possible. The Bar Has Limited Supplies But Is Alright In The Short Term. 9. If Clear, Make A Run Towards Next Close And Repeat Steps 4 And 5. 10. Once All The Closes Have Been Raided Out And There's No Supplies Left, There Is A Pathway Which Leads Into A Large Field/Park. Roughly 1-2 Mins Away There Is A Small Industrial Estate Right Next To Some Traintracks. The Entrance To The Industrial Estate Has One Huge Gate With Spikes On Top. Me And My Friend Can Just About Squeeze Threw A Small Gap At The Side Which I Cant Really See Any Z's Getting Threw. |

I'll use this plan in the case of a zombie outbreak Classes 1 or 2. Steps may be modified, eliminated, added or moved to a higher/lower priority depending on the circumstances.
1. Call my close friends and arrange to meet and one of their houses. (Tell them to bring their Zombie Survival Guides!) If the house I have in mind is overrun or for some other reason unfortifiable we'll meet at my place. If my place is overrun (and assuming I'm still alive), we'll meet at my other friend's place. If his house is overrun, we'll meet at one of the nearby stores/schools. 2. Scrub down the bathtub of whatever house we're at as fast as possible and fill it with water. Fill all other clean containers with water. Stock up on food. (If there's time, by out the grocery store. If not, clean out the cupboards!) 3. Gather the rifles, pistols, machetes, knives, crowbars, and any other tools/weapons we can. Assuming the shed hasn't been overrun we should be covered here. If it has, hopefully the garage hasn't. If both have, we'll have to make do with what we can around the house. 4. Make fortifications. Destroy the staircases. Turn off lights, radios, music and other zombie-attracting devices. Put phones on vibrate-only and carry them everywhere we go. 5. If it's winter, insulate the fort as much a possible. With temperatures as low as -60 degrees Fahrenheit (-51.11 Celsius) we're more likely to die from the cold than zombies. If it's summer, try to grow crops. 6. Make preparations to flee if necessary. (Escape route, supplies, destination, etc.) 7. Write in journal and refer to the Zombie Survival Guide as much as possible. STAY QUIET! 8. Wait. Defend. Survive.
