I've started working on my Bug In plan and thought I'd share my thoughts and my planning tool with the community.
My situation: Location: Melbourne, Australia, suburban surroundings (no guns) Family Members: 13 total - 8 Adults & 5 Kids ... assuming the furthest can make it to me, otherwise possible 10 total. Plan: Be Prepared, wait out 2 weeks, see what happens, then scouting and possible Bug Out from home base. Getting ready: Being an IT geek I'll make a spreadsheet so I can make sure I have sufficient supplies and they remain rotated and ready. The following link is to a Google Document's Spreadsheet (basically Excel online by Google). I have set it up so that anyone can access it but not edit it. To use it go to the first tab (Details) and add numbers into the green box's. Result? a rough Idea what your supplies will need to be. I will be making some updates to the lists in the other tab found in the same spreadsheet (Water, Food, Tools, etc) The idea is that you save a copy to your computer (Select [File] then [Download as] and choose the appropriate type) and enter your details for your own records. link>> http://tinyurl.com/bugin-supplies <<link I would also love input from members as to what else should be added or removed. Also, any issues viewing/ using, etc please let me know and I'll fix it. Good hunting, stay safe and be prepared.
Do you find this valuable?

This is an update on my alternate plan i'm making after taking some things into conciderartion..I made this last year along with my original plan, but after much thinking I figured staying home and making it secure enough to stay as long as we can was our best bet. Also removed the colony part and excluding the neighbors. I have been talking to my dad and as I said in my last plan we are buying canned foods to prepare for what's to come.
We also now have rabbits and ducks for food and more chickens. We also have a tank which holds our water supply that we can sanitize. We also always have 75 gallons of water around for drinking. And as mentioned in the first plan, we have chickens and a bunch of different crops.. We have alot of bananas and plantains which grow very fast and are available all year round. Ok so this is the plan. I realised that come Z day my mom would not want to leave, so I have been talking to my dad about building a bunker with a monitor room so we can see what is going on outside with the security cameras. We are also planning on getting a well and a windmill built along with making our home solar powered. We will also make our fences into walls by removing the iron bars and adding to the concrete already there. Anyway when z day arrives, Me and my parents will stay home watching the news. We will fortify our house and board up the windows.. After a few days we will move to the bunker. We will stay in the bunkers, since we will be building 2 and have them interconnect. We will most likely have a solar powered genrator. What we will do is move all of our supplies in the bunker after we fortify our all the buildings in our half acre property. most of the houses here on the island are built like fortresses since they are made of concrete. As before we will coordinate with the rest of our family and have them come here. |

Our neighborhood came up around me over the last 20 years by a developer-figures...so now, I have 2-major roads and several secondary roads running around us where once there were none. However, it does give us options for getting out, so we'll make the best of it.
I keep the car packed with a minimum amount of stuff (3-day pack; ammo first aid pack...). At first I thought about using the RXR to get out, but the biggest advantage there is its biggest vulnerability. So here we go: I have packed several "pallette loads" that is I have a stack of boxes for a litterally one-minute drill and they sit next to "we've got some time" boxes. Each contains similar items: (seed, pioneer tools, medicine, FD food stuffs...). Once gone, the residence will be put in a condition that no one can use what is left and you will never be able to "carry" all that you will need because being on a wagon train like exixtance is living artificailly and that is OK for 3-4 months at best. We are moving to a secondary location that is geographically secured to a degree with long steep ridges, water. I am also looking into getting a SAMIL2.0 for our ride out and after some tough times with food until our new garden can produce we should be OK. The thing for our plan is dictated by the area we are planning to go to. We have water pumps, push plows and we'll be living quietly off the grid and since it will be work in getting to us, those northern invaders, used to living in a big city are not likely to want to move in our direction. The first winter is going to be hard, especially for those who lack differetn skill sets and you are not likely to possess those if you have lived in a large city your whole life-dependant on others. As for friends and family, we have a couple that have "trade" skills and one has access to a mechanics truck (welder, air compressor, TOOLS...) where we are moving to, a farmer I know has a CNC machine. |
