While some would consider WWII weapons outdated and overly heavy, while others see reliability and fire power. The M1 Garand fires the .30-06 (thirty ought six) round which is common enough to find in any gun store and can take a zombie's head off. This gun does weighs 9-10 pounds but it makes up for it in close combat. This rifle has a bayonet lug, and the Garand itself is sturdy enough to beat away an attacker. This gun has a good range extreme resilience and good fire power and should never be
classified as out dated.M1 Garand Rifle

M-1 Carbine:
WWII weapons for thought - Zombie Survival & Defense WikiThis rifle is .30 cal. and a great choice. Its small and not too heavy at all. It has enough power to stop a zombie in its tracks and its bullets are small enough that you can carry a decent amount of them. There are versions with both metal folding stocks and solid synthetic stocks. The original rifles are still available and some companies are re-making them as well. If you get an antique, make sure to get a post-WW2 model, as the WW2 models did not have bayonet lugs.

Karabiner 98Kurz:
Kar 98The standard weapon of the German armed forces in WW2, the K98 uses the reliable Mauser bolt. It can accept a bayonet and a rifle grenade adapter, and can use a special telescopic sight. It fires the 8mm, which is comparable to the 30-06 in the above Garand. One of the only real drawbacks is finding 8mm ammo in the US is harder then most.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MP-40 Machine Pistol:
Bolt forwardThe MP40 was a slow repeating machine gun used in WWII by the Nazis. It fires the most common round in the world (9mm) and as such ammo is very easy to find. It allows controlled bursts and single shot by the operator; not the gun. It's only real action is fully auto so it might be best to avoid it. Also the magazines are misused as handholds and are susceptible to dirt and jamming requiring sharp slaps to keep the feeder running. One commonly overlooked fact is that it is very light, and is compact wit the stock folded.

Samozaryadniy Karabin sistemi Simonova (SKS):

Short stroke gas piston, tilting bolt, self-loading.
Rate Of Fire:
Semi-automatic.
Muzzle Velocity:
735 m/s (2,410 ft/s).
Effective Range:
433 yd (400 m).
Feed System:
10-round internal box magazine, 10-round stripper clip-fed or individual round loading.
Sights:
Hooded post front sight, tangent notch rear sight to 3,281 ft (1,000m).
Designed in 1945 by Sergei Gavrilovich SIMONOV, it’s distinctive name means “Self-loading Carbine, Simonov's system.” Although eventuially replaced by the AK-47, it fires the same cartridge and can be found really cheap. It is also one of the most easily modifiable weapons available. The cartridge it uses is pretty common, and many times it comes with a bayonet which is good for stabbing a Zed through the eye. The round it fires can easily penetrate the skull. Best of all, it's cheap.
The SKS does have one seriously unfortunate drawback; It’s box magazine, as originally designed, is INTERNAL, meaning it must be loaded with a “Stripper clip”, a process that takes a little more time and has a couple more things that can go wrong. Conversion kits are available to make them detachable-box mag fed, but these are generally not very effective, expensive, and most of all, not LEGAL in many areas.Vintage Weapons - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

¿Can someone please explain to me why you might want an Garand over a Carbine, and a Carbine over a BAR? I looked over all three and have only fire a BAR (and only one shot at that, since I was about 10-ish at the time) I really was at a loss as to why the Garand is so damned popular. (Admittedly, the extent of my ‘massive’ experience with the Garand was TraCen Cape May, where they issued us de-milled versions.)

Some of the weaps on this page are still in general production, even though none have been in mainstream militry service in most cases for well over 50 years.
Those still in production should be moved to the Civvy weaps page, and thos in the civvy weaps page that are not in production anymore be moved here.
