What To Stock Your Fortress With
This will tell you what to stock your fortress with before z-day comes, so don't think you'll
be able to move all the things you will need in your bug out bag. Some of the things you will
need are just too heavy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Food ~ You need this to live: this is the most important thing to stock your fortress with.
Canned food: canned food is good because it is cheap, and has a long shelf life. Though some soups only last 2 or 3 years, some canned meats can last 50 years!!! Plus, they don't even need to be cold to say edible.

MRE's: MRE's are also a good choice. They're much more expensive than canned food, but have more calories, and kept in the right conditions, they can last 7- 8 years at the longest. They are used by the U.S. military. They dont taste that good.

Farming: farming will give you a constant supply of food, but it does take a lot of elbow grease.

freeze dried food: stays good for a long time. easy to cook. cheep (if you buy in large amounts). and can be eaten dry...only if you have to though.

Water ~ Just like food, you need this to live
Big storage: you can get big drums, and fill them with water. Hopefully, it will last you thought the whole conflict. Or you can build a big pool to keep it in.

Rain water collection systems: These can supply you with water, but you should find some way to filter the water you will be using to drink.

Guns ~ You will need these to defend your base form zombies.
Rifles: they are the best weapon to use to defend your base, because their range allows you to shoot zombies from an elevated and protected location. (ex. roof, watch tower, tree, etc.)

Shotguns: because shotguns have such short range, they're not the best choice to use to defend a base with. They're only good if the zombies have broken your line of defense and are in your base.

Pistols: once again due to range, they shouldn't be used as your main weapon, but are useful for search and destroy missions (only if you have a silencer). Another acceptable circumstance is if zombies have broken your fortified line of defense.

Melee weapons ~ Melee weapons may seem useless because of the fact that there should be some kind of fortification between you and the zombies, but heaven forbid they get through. You might need them. Most of the time, you won't, so try to pick weapons with a secondary purpose.
Crowbars: crowbars help you pry things open, and can also be used as a weapon.

Axes: These can cut trees and can be used as a weapon.

Hoes: Useful in farming and can be used as a weapon (but only if nothing else is available).

Shovels: Good for digging trenches and firing positions, and burying corpses. Also, they can be used as weapons.

Silencers: These quiet your guns, which allows you to kill a zombie with out giving away your position.

bi pod: remember your fortress is your home give your self every advantage. your enemy doesn't know where it is and doesn't know where you are. use a bi pod form a high ground and make you shot steady and deadly...undeadly...re-deadly...unredeadly?.

power this will run your stoves, lights, freezers, radios, and everything else you will need to live.
wind: wind can provide a constant supply of energy. but there are some down sides if there's no wind the windmill will create no electricity and many windmills make allot of noise as the swoop though the air which attracts zombies.

gas: gas generators are a great source of energy but they are loud and your gas is better spent melting zombies.

Watch
What happens if you do have a horse at your fortress and then it dies in the middle of the night from old age or something, and you're sleeping near it? Will it become a zombie and nibble on your ears long enough to wake you up so you can look into its big, brown, undead eyes like some horrible version of Black Beauty, before it crushes your skull beneath its hoof and feasts upon your steaming grey matter? Can horses even become zeds?
