What Can We Do Better?
Chatroom There has been some problems on the Wiki. None of us will get far unless we work together so now is your chance to tell the mods and up what you think. Do you think we need to do something to make the wiki better? Or do you think we're doing fine as it is? Well now is your chance to voice.
The only thing is that you can't flame, use vulgar language or say something distasteful about any Mods or Admins. This is so the Mods and up know what we can do better. Not to say SuperSoldierRCP is a freak or Alicestars a loser. This is ONLY to be positive.
Marsden and other ranking members will go through the comments and try to address all issues raised.
------------------------------------------------------POST COMMENTS BELOW------------------------------------------------------
z_warrior: I think we should create a page with ideas and plans for fortress style buildings. That way we can acctually build these so when the zombies do come, we won't all go for the same basic places. I have already thought and planned out a fortress style house.
HeavenlySword: I think we should create a new topic, a "How To" page. This would give anything from basic survival, such as how to check foods for edibility, to advanced things like How To repair a HT lead in your car. And then things like fortress engineering and survielance and all that can be added.
This would really increase the ability of this wiki to aid others in survival and defense.
Marsden: I'll have a look in to creating some sort of directory for this over the enxt few days; thanks for bringing this up.
Hillbilly909: I think that we should have a chat room!!!!
Marsden: We do; just follow this link Chatroom.
twistermop: I think we need more on the civilian weaponry page
Zombacide:
How about a link for "random page"? First wiki I've ever seen that didn't have one.
Marsden: What do you mean by a random page?
Aiwadi:
I think we should make more pages about certain weapons I've already made one but we need more.
cormacr9:
I think some one should make linked pictures for this wiki that we can put on bebo, facebook and other sites members might be able to add these to.
Marsden: We already have these on the wiki for you to use. They can be found here.
Original-Sin:
I am still opening some of these folders that have been on here for-ever and I still have to edit out the typos to clean them up. We need more Mods/Admins on this site to make it as professional as possible.
Marsden: Anyone who has been on the wiki for a month and has given good contributions can now apply to be a temporary moderator to help with minor issues.
The mad badger:
This might be a stupid question, but can someone message me and give me an answer( moderator if possible).
This is a website etiquette question. If I'm reading SOMEONE ELSE'S page and i see a spelling mistake, can i correct it, or message the author to tell them?? just wondering, as I've got on my survival page 'feel free to correct spelling or grammar'.
Vanrulzz: Yes you can, as far as i know as a moderator. i do it all the time and as long as you just don't really change what they are saying i would say its OK... but for an official opinion message Marsden, Alicestar or AngelaB
KaikelX:
What kind of problems are we talking about here?
John_234:
Well, just many of the pages aren't really thought out.
I mean, on the ballistics page, there were "rumored weapons" and a BLOWDART as a "a way to SILENTLY and EFFICIENTLY kill skin jobs at several hundred meters". There is an extent to where someone can get mistaken, but those were out of the plain stupidity of users.
And the vehicles at one point, had mostly SUVs and various types of truck with a whole bunch of opinionated statements, and even parts of peoples load-out. Its more the problems with the understanding of the users.
byates:
How about a links page?
McSkullcracken:
I am unsure as to whether or not it is possible, but a spell check option for thread posts would be nice. So if the Wiki could get one of those, and members would use it, that would be...pleasant.
Otherwise spelling in general could use improvement. Maybe if the Wiki had an editor.
Quickrace89: Just a few things. First of all, if you require an editor to fix grammar and spelling, I'd be happy to - I've taken it upon myself a little, but I'm afraid that I'm going to offend someone by changing something that they believe was right... O.o Sure, I can understand making mistakes in threads, but if you're going to make a page, at least spell it right and use capitals where necessary in a title. I'd be happy to fix them all up, if I was given the power to rename pages and such.
Also, I feel the mods are being a little soft on allowing pages to exist... sure, some of them just have stupid ideas (I myself having made some of them =D), but some of them are just blatantly pointless, unsightly, and wasting space. Maybe there should be a voting system, where the pages and ideas that are thought by the wiki to be realistic, useful or feasible are marked out, or maybe the pages and ideas that aren't are in a separate section. This would make the wiki look a lot more professional (well, it's a good thing) and thought-out. We can really take this wiki places, if we take the effort to make it worthy of the top ten. The rant is now over.
Marsden: The wiki's leadersare doing their up-most to ensure correct spelling, punctuation and grammar are used. There are, however now over 800 pages and 7 members in moderating positions. If you see any incorrect grammar please correct it. It won't go unnoticed. And please after you have written an article use the spell check feature. It only takes 5 minutes and is very effective. It is located in the EasyEdit box above the save button and 5 across to the right. As for your second part. Andering Reddson (God bless him) has spent hours upon hours deleting, moving, renaming, merging and locking pages which were unnecessary.
IFWU: A video page of zombie flicks that the site members (if it applies) made.
Marsden: No one will stop you adding your own Z-flicks to the cinema if you want them up; just create another screen and put your movie up.
Residentmagnum:
How about a monitor who is elected or appointed to delete or move old and out dated information
like after the attack some of the pages where a little different.
Or the weapons links were separated rather than one large junk page.
Or after a set amount of time a page maybe discontinued or allowed to continue if it is popular.
Many of us agree or disagree but if there is a problem then we all are to blame.
Marsden: That is a job for both administration, moderation and the wiki community as a whole. I agree completely that we all owe our debt to the upkeep of this site. We will take further steps to ensure the site stays up to date with fresh information.
BIA!:
The only suggestion I really have ( off the top of my head, at least XD) Is that people who put links on their pages, PLEASE,
Check and update your links. At like 3 am, it gets kinda frustrating when the links are dead or outdated.
Thanks for listening!
Apocalyptic-Bob:
Is there any chance we could do away with some of the net-speak? It would make the site look quite a bit less... childish.
Also, would it be possible to create a large list of zombie-related links? Such as zombie entertainment (such as video games, movies, etc.), other zombie related sites, defense links (such as weapon vendors, large hardware stores, etc.), and such? If we had one that was well maintained, I believe it could really help with attracting people to the site, and keeping existing members of the site loyal.
CrypticScience: I discovered your widget and placed it in myspace. Just tossing an idea out there but, how about zombie news, maybe stories about protecting one's home or family, zombie history, movie related zombie topics etc...? I'd be glad to contribute.
Marsden: Please do contribute; just make sure the pages are both filed correctly and kept relevant to zombies. It can be easy to get distracted.
Zyzzogeton:
How about a who's online type of thing... I hate to be online when nobody else is...
Marsden: Could another moderator help Zyzzogeton out please? I can't really cover this issue well.
THe Professional: I really rather copy and paste pictures rather than upload them to the site before putting them on a page. Also, (maybe I'm just a stoopid n00b) but I can't figure out how to use pics that are already on the site without having to sort 20 pics at a time. I know about the photo gallery but I can't figure out how to use them without sorting.
Marsden: PM me which ones and I'll delete them. Only moderators and up can.
ReverantFaun
A better categorization of pages it's a little hard to find certain subjects, and also a section that recommends what kinds of pages we should be making
KaikelX:
Another thing, DO NOT MARK TO-DOS URGENT UNLESS IT NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW. I browse through them, and it is so annoying that people mark everything urgent. Also, do NOT make to-dos that only you or the page creator can do. That just basically clogs up the to-dos. EXAMPLE: the Zombie quiz to-do on this page does not belong here, and there are already zombie quizzes around. Plus, it would be 'add content' not 'custom/other' If you have an idea, use a thread, don't misuse the to-dos.
BIA!: I second Zyzzogeton's suggestion of some sort of online tracker that could tell us who is online, because it sucks when you're on here replying to threads and no one else is here :D
SirMikeyB: Do we have a scenarios page for low level or more isolated situations?
KaikelX:Alright, I'll get started on one. Want me to do both at once or one at a time? Keep in mind, to keep it challenging, I'll have to thing up of some pretty hard objectives.
~Jack~: We need a medicine and Injurypage. One with various injuries, the proper treatment, and emergency last-ditch possibly life-saving substitutes (no bandages? a clean piece of fabric will do just fine). Or we could provide a links to really good websites. It needs to have a functional, practical, and useful first-aid kit for any doomsday doctor. The survival kit will have to be a very good one, able to treat any injury short of death. It will have to last at least one month total, the most used items will take up the most space, and non-essential items will be rejected, ripped apart, burned, the ashes gathered, burned again, and then blown up with a bomb so large it scatters the individual atomic particles all over space time itself, making it impossible to put back on the page...
Anyhow, we just need a page dedicated to first-aid and medicine in a zombie world... I mean, sometimes certain injuries must be treated with a little something extra to keep you from dying from something other then zombies...
Tacticalplanner: More realism to an article (ie. An M-60 being in the page "Things civillians might not have acess to" instead of "Civillian Balistic Weapons"
KaikelX: Well, thinking through tough small scenarios is a challenge, I should get it done by the end of next week...It would help if I had a few more people who made scenarios. Afterall, it encourages creative thinking, and analyzing.
lord awesome:i think we should add more to the Profitable Survival-How to outlive Z-day, and make a pretty penny in the process page.
Happyman: We need some directions on how to make blasting caps, we have all these great explosives but only fuses to detonate them. I've tried winging it myself to make one but I cant seem to do it.
The only thing is that you can't flame, use vulgar language or say something distasteful about any Mods or Admins. This is so the Mods and up know what we can do better. Not to say SuperSoldierRCP is a freak or Alicestars a loser. This is ONLY to be positive.

Andy REDDSON: Re Aiwadi: A more profitable use is to expand the existing articles for the time being; With few exceptions, most guns can be covered in a single page (the M-2 is an extreme case, mainly because everyone wants one, but have no idea about the care and feeding of Ma Deuce). If an article expands far enough to need a page to itself, then we can do that at that time. ;)

Andy REDDSON: Spelling, grammar, and format are part of my collateral duties as the handyman. I fix these issues as I can, but it’s a lot of work to start with, which isn’t helped by people going back and undoing my work constantly (I’ve had to fix the aviation page alone 6 times now because someone keeps moving pictures and underlining everything, when it shouldn’t be).

more zombie games/ stuff i can do while I'm bored without having to go deep into what kind of ammo works best/other seemingly trivial information.

I know it doens't make sense- It's the government.LordDoom1985: Deletion of stupid pages and a merging of redundant pages. The wiki page navigation feels unorganized. For example a page that simply lists weapon names listed by type with links to each weapon name going to the page about said weapon. What we have now is a page that lists and gives details on each weapon and another page that talks about one of the weapons on the list with a unique detailing of it's properties. We need unification.
Andy REDDSON: While breaking up current pages, say the civvy weaps page, would be more professional and probably load faster, it eats up exponetially more memory; Remember, this isn't free. If AngelaB wants to split them up, we can, but until she says so, it's best to leave them as-is.

One thing we could do better is make sure all page fit on a standard viewing format, for example, in issues of the week one must scroll sideways in order to read the entire articles, always a pain in the ass.

I was looking through the list of vehicles and I am very impressed damn good job everyone! I did however find SOME mistakes. The Buffalo is the V shape hull armored vehicle with the mine throwing arm. would not be used well against zombies it's slow and not strong enough to throw a man. the second one and that is very important is that ALL land based Millitary vehicles use JP8 but can use Diesel fuel. You put that the Abrams tank uses jet fuel no, it is a jet turbine driven diesel engine.

I'm sorry, but I had to point this out. As I read down the page here, I noticed how Andy Reddson replied to John234 and thought that he had really bad spelling and grammer. Spelling at least. Then, as he answered McSkullcracken, he said he was the one who was supposed to go and fix that kind of thing.
I noticed his spelling was much better there, so I'm sure he was just in a hurry to defend himself, but I found that really funny and had to say something about it...Sorry Andy.

This isn't the first time this issue has come up (though it is one of the more significant ones). From now on, if a link is broken PM me and I will do what I can to fix them. I can't promise all will be fixed (in several cases, I may have to simply remove the link and explain it after), but I will do whatever I can. Thank you, Andy REDDSON.
