Why Wal-Mart Will Kill YouThis is a featured page

I work at Wal-Mart.

I have worked there for almost 6 years now. I work in management in the
hard lines area that includes garden center, hardware, TLE, sporting goods, and toys. About
5 years ago when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the looters hit the local Wal-Mart. The
looting was all caught on tape by the local news.

This was just 1 day after the storm. The city was flooding & people where dying by the thousands, and these people went shopping. Around 85% of the city was evacuated before the storm. Can you imagine what that video would have looked like if they had not. Anything of any value for survival was gone in a matter of hours.

So now lets say you come across an abandoned Wal-Mart six months later. I hope you have a small Army with you, because this place is full of holes. Lets start with the obvious ones.

There will be two large mall-type entrances. One on either side towards the front of the store and a third one at the Garden C
enter.

Front doors

TLE will likewise have a large glass door entrance along with about 6 to 8 big bay roll up doors.
The Receiving Area will have another 6 to 8 roll up doors and at least one more for vendors but there could
be two.

Now back to the garden center:

Most Wal-Marts have 2 patio areas in garden center and they are fenced in with large gates. The larger patio will have large steel racks along the fence that
can go as high as 25 feet.

Inside both of these
fences are 15 to 20 roll up doors that are made of cloth and held together on the sides with Velcro.

Now for the biggest problem, fire doors. There are 45 fire doors on my building and if you doubt me next time you're close to a Wal-Mart drive around it and count. You can't go more than 20 feet in most places on the outside wall and not see a fire door.

These doors are not made for security and have no locks. They are held closed with a single 3/8 steel bar that slides in a hole and a very small bump from the inside will open it. The doors are made of light steel... light steel that is nothing close to bullet proof.

There is a single roof access in the back room of the store.

In my store there are over 200 sky lights. Also the roof is thin gauge metal that would not support much more weight than a few people for any amount of time

Why Wal-Mart Will Kill You - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

There is no Generator.

No back up power.

No water tanks.

Just a very large building with 500 entrances for Raiders and Zombies to get to you. Let's not forget that there is also a huge parking lot with surrounding buildings that would make excellent cover for Snipers to pick you off one at a time if you did stay out on the roof. You could build a secure building from scratch easier than securing a Wal-Mart.

Hello another thread by me . If I am annoying anyone just ask me to stop?

People say they will raid wallmart to get supplies, there are others who simply cannot afford and finally the people who will look strange to there parents with 200 cans of beans under there bed.

My solution would be cooking shops/schools , I got a summer job in one recently and I noticed how useful it would be if any disaster took place pref zombies.

This school has around 100 students go through it a day and a fully stock store beneath it along with a warehouse around I kilometre away, I'm not saying everyone is like this .

This specific shop has over 12 camping 2 ring camping stoves along with a large supply of butane for them. Also as I stated there's over 100 a day going through there's very large amounts cannend food. Along with food and butane there's large amount of chafing fuel and large I mean large.

Along with that there is professional cooking knives in there hundreds and many other useful tools that can be used like a frying pan to the face of a zed.

Pots large pots that are used for cooking to 30 or so will be over looked in the panic and can be used for trade later on in the apoc when people realise they can't boil enough vegetables in their nee tins for their group of thirty .

Just a taught:)

A lot of people forget that there are ways to secure an area. For being at Wally World the fire sprinkler lines that run though the entire building can be shut off at site and the steel pipes dismantled and used to create barricades. It's icky smelly work, but it can be done. Some Wally Worlds sell welders and if so, there are back up generators on site that run the fire pumps that provide water pressure for the fire line. Some of these are even diesel ! ( Boil a pig anyone? ) One generator, some steel and a welder and you're set ! There is enough room on the roof to set up a water collection basin, a small farm and a heli pad for a light sport helicopter. ( I suggest a R44) Take out a sky light and run your hose down to your inflated swimming pool and you've got water. ( if it rains) Pile the shopping carts at the glass doors and reinforce them with steel sprinkler pipe. Secure the fire doors and emergency exits with the pallets and stock racks that should still be there or just weld the doors shut. A couple of car batteries lined up in series can create a poor mans welder. Now none of these will stop a determined foe, but it will make you a tougher nut to crack.

Well it is very useful supply wise. Find a hummer and a shotgun, ammo(rob a gun or pawn shop to get weapons supplies), kill some zombies or infected, grab as much food, tools, water bottles, and other supplies as you can. Then get to a bank. Its made to keep people out, has about one or two exits meant to also keep people from getting in, and has camera's and a vault if an emergency were to occur and you or your gruop needs immediate shelter. Simple really.
