I work at Wal-Mart.

I have worked there for almost 6 years now. I work in management in the
hard lines area that includes garden center, hardware, TLE, sporting goods, and toys. About
5 years ago when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the looters hit the local Wal-Mart. The
looting was all caught on tape by the local news.

This was just 1 day after the storm. The city was flooding & people where dying by the thousands, and these people went shopping. Around 85% of the city was evacuated before the storm. Can you imagine what that video would have looked like if they had not. Anything of any value for survival was gone in a matter of hours.

So now lets say you come across an abandoned Wal-Mart six months later. I hope you have a small Army with you, because this place is full of holes. Lets start with the obvious ones.

There will be two large mall-type entrances. One on either side towards the front of the store and a third one at the Garden C
enter.

Front doors

TLE will likewise have a large glass door entrance along with about 6 to 8 big bay roll up doors.
The Receiving Area will have another 6 to 8 roll up doors and at least one more for vendors but there could
be two.

Now back to the garden center:

Most Wal-Marts have 2 patio areas in garden center and they are fenced in with large gates. The larger patio will have large steel racks along the fence that
can go as high as 25 feet.

Inside both of these
fences are 15 to 20 roll up doors that are made of cloth and held together on the sides with Velcro.

Now for the biggest problem, fire doors. There are 45 fire doors on my building and if you doubt me next time you're close to a Wal-Mart drive around it and count. You can't go more than 20 feet in most places on the outside wall and not see a fire door.

These doors are not made for security and have no locks. They are held closed with a single 3/8 steel bar that slides in a hole and a very small bump from the inside will open it. The doors are made of light steel... light steel that is nothing close to bullet proof.

There is a single roof access in the back room of the store.

In my store there are over 200 sky lights. Also the roof is thin gauge metal that would not support much more weight thatthan a few people for any amount of time

Why Wal-Mart Will Kill You - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

There is no Generator.

No back up power.

No water tanks.

Just a very large building with 500 entrances for Raiders and Zombies to get to you. Let's not forget that there is also a huge parking lot with surrounding buildings that would make excellent cover for Snipers to pick you off one at a time if you did stay out on the roof. You could build a secure building from scratch easier than securing a Wal-Mart.
