for me, it has got to be the fact that zombies trancend the natural and spritual boundries upon human kind. This would force people to rethink what they belive in order to understand. And understanding a zombie could be the way to survive an attack.

it just seems so plausible. just a rampant more viral strain of rabies and you've essentially got zombies running around infecting through bites and scratches. I think it's going to happen...really. at some point someone is going to realize that there are a lot of pros to having a zombie bioweapon and ignore all the cons.
this site is good, it ensures there will likely be survivors.

I think we are fascinated by the realm of possibility, and specifically how it applies to us. It is to some degree a daydream or fantasy where we become gods, in a sense--handing out life or death by letting survivors in or keeping them out, planning to destroy legions of undead foes from the safety of our fortresses, and surviving against all odds against vastly more numerous forces. It also gives us a humorous way to plan for the worst, and it lets us imagine a radically different world, a change in the social structure and the way humanity goes about its business. And it never hurts to be prepared...

Frankly everyone I know even the stereotipical "normal people" (btw what is normal? Deep question I know) have had at least one zombie fear or fantasy. People have been obsessed with this stuff for a really long time example Frankenstein even though he wasnt the modern zombie he still represented the fear and amazement we have with re animation. Is it possible? Maybe. It would be unreasonable to say it 100% is and even more unreasonable to say it isnt. Myself I cant stop myself from wishing it would happen. Even though I would be crushed by the loss of family and friends I cant say I wouldnt enjoy it to some degree. Maybe like others said "Im just fucked in the head?"

Personally, I want an apocalyptic zombie outbreak to occur.
Why? I have no clue. Still, something gets me stoked when I watch a good zombie movie, or read a good book about the undead. I guarantee that an outbreak would be complete shit. Hunger, boredom, death, (Not to mention the stench). There is absolutely NO fear in me, for this. I want it to happen. Maybe it's an appealing challenge, or maybe I'm just fucked up in the head, but I still stand by it. |

I agree with the things people are saying, about how it doesn't necessarily have to be zombies, just some sort of cataclysmic event in which the fabric of society is ripped apart, leaving only the ones with enough will to live and knowledge to survive. You get to take your life in your hands, and utilize skills you wouldn't even be ALLOWED to use in every day society. Just the thought of constantly having to watch your own back just so you don't die is fascinating to me and apparently everyone else here. I am also a huge gamer, so things like Dead Rising, Fallout, Left 4 Dead, and other games have only increased my desire for something to simply come along and rip everyday life into shreds and reveal a person's true colors.

Because it is a challenge. It would be an impossible situation. I am fascinated by the challenge this presents. Not only trying to kill the zombies, but prevent infection. And still find the time and resources to eat, drink, and sleep. The reason I am fascinated, one word: survival. Plus it just seems cool (lol)

I believe that for many people, the thought a zombie conjurs up a fear that they don't feel on a normal basis. For me, nothing is scary, save for a zombie munching my flesh. Another thing i feel plays into this is that every person has an inborn violence that they cannot express in todays world. A zombie outbreak allows for us to express these tendensies without reprecussion: Killing without punishment

it's simple, and evilredgrin is right.
let's not kid ourselves, we fantasize about it. we want zombies to come, to turn the world upside down, and for our lives to be our own again. most of us ARE the kids who sat in the back of class, chose to limp our way through high school, got picked on, and wanted out of society from beginning. most of us ARE the ones just itching for a reason to shoot, slash, and burn our way through life, deciding our own fate. the thrill of cutting down countless monsters, whose death has no consequence, excites us. face it. we've wanted out since we were born. zeds are our excuse.

I have not what I call a "fascination" as much as I would call an Innate downright gut wrenching fear of zombies. I had never had a problem with death or reanimation of any kind until i was close to 30. I worked in nursing homes for most of my life before then. I took care of the dead before lunch. I washed, redressed and prepared them for the funeral home to pick them up. I saw nothing to fear in these people I had loved and cared for.
Things changed on January 6, 2004. I and my husband had gotten into some trouble with the police (yes, issues with drugs), and were having a hard go at life. We were both clean by then, gerting our lives back together. However, my nephew had stolen checks and forged them to get money out of our account-2 weeks before Christmas. We had given him a chance and told him to come by and repay us and we wouldn't press charges against him. It had snowed that day and was bitter cold. My husband had taken some items to the pawn shop just so we could pay some bills that were late. My newphew showed up while he was gone and told me that he had our money, but wanted to wait until my husband got home to talk and give it to him. When my husband came home, all seemed ok. The two were talking in the dining room, I later heard shots fired in the dining room. He shot him, and I watched him die. And I thought I was next. I was held at gunpoint for hours, left to sit next to his dead body. knowing he would wake up and take me with him. That is when the fear set in. I can't sleep at night now. Only during the day. And so I wait. For them to come and take me. To make my death as painful and horrible as can be for living-when he died. Now what do I do? Help me please.

My interest in zombies came about as a result of years of playing Resident Evil. I just found it amazing that zombies could come about because of a synthetic virus. If humans could in this day and age create such a thing, it would be astounding (and horrifying)!

Mine fascination comes from a couple of facts
1. I'm not the most amazing thing in the world, I've never really had the courage to be a leader, Z-day would force me to become a leader, my obsession with killing something would be met and i would be awesome, it would be were i shine the brightest. 2. I can not stand the world today, its all corrupt and no signs of changing, Z-day would give humanity a chance to start over, especial if we DON'T take the 28 weeks later approach and go with the smarter level and rebuild method, completely destroying the cities yes, keeping humans on the planet an even bigger YES! 3. It seems kinda of fun, having all that freedom, one concern, survive, not having a bill to pay, i can get the exercise that i want, ill be in control of me and thats all i will need to, i will be forced to be the person i wanted to be, but could never be!

I was a bit shocked when i read some of the entries ,basically because they were not all testosterone driven. I am glad to have joined this group and found many like minded individuals that are "thinking apes". The break down of modern society intrigues my melon and what would happen to those that were fortunate enough to survive. I think that Zombies personify the arrogant, egotistic snobs that each of us encounter, lost in their own world, never stopping to see what real people are doing. Often their obsession with brains, flesh, or money hinder their basic human emotions, thus leaving a society of walking dead. The idea of a fantasy involving high power rifles and long sharp blades severing these "zombies" to bits is one that feeds the need of justification against such lack of real life. Of course , with all the super bugs running rampant in our world, I believe that a senario such as "28 days later" would be more accurate as an end to society.
Galatians 6:7says Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. I think this describes our end. Man-made folly, death to mother earth with her retribution being a super virus with no cure. And zombies are cool, like Fonzie !

Just the pure fact that you would be the leader of a bunch of scared people, defending them from something that they don't know how to defend from. Oh yeah, you feel pretty cool then

Well said, Blayde. I'm far more akin to this bit of understanding. I beleive we do see zomibes as the easiest outlet of this desire. I also have an irrational fear of zombies, which factors in this case. I've been fascinated with the Apocolypse for a very long time... and honestly I'd enjoy the strangeties that would follow as purpose. To live is my purpose... I'm sure you understand what I'm saying. It boils down to simple desire to have purpose...

I believe that besides the obvious lures of zombies taking over the world such as the ability to shoot another human being (kind of) without any consiquences or just running around looting stores, all records would be erased. I believe that people are fascinated by the concept because all of your schol records, legal history, bills, or anything that you had a responsibility are gone and its all about survival. The idea of you and maybe your friends against the world (whether they be dead or not) fascinates us and brings us back to our primitive origins, kill or be killed, no job, no school, shoot them in the face and move on.
