My Plan for Z-Day
I live in a fairly low key suburban area of Long Island. Look it up if you want, its near Glen Cove. I'm right on the water and i have easy access to my own sailboat and several friends' boats as well. Me and my friend are both members of the site and have a decent way of making our way through survival come Z-Day. As such, we have three possible plans. A quick thing to point out is that there is NO WAY we will be approaching New York City. A large-scale infection in New York would be too dangerous, and there are better ways of committing suicide.
Our first plan is escape. We are going to take one of our boats from harbor and hit the ocean, sailing along Long Island's coast until we can determine the size of the infection. My friend and I (Who I trust with my life in this kind of situation) would then either head either to a designated safe zone (With caution as the Military may be scattered and safe zones may be overrun) or sail back along the coastline until we reach a colder climate up North. If the ZSDW base has been built, Then we are going to determine where is the best place to make landfall and travel by any means necessary to it. If it's on the sea, then we'll sail there along the coast. We are both experienced shots and have frequented shooting ranges. I also have good skills for staying alive off of the ocean until we need to dock for supplies, such as fishing, water purification techniques, and several others.
Our second plan is merely to survive the initial outbreak, if it is on LI, then we have something to fear unless we get our boat. If we can, we'll get as far away from LI as possible and warn other people along the coast. If possible, we may head to land, and move west, towards the heartland. We could then go north or escape to the south, into Central and South America.
Our third plan is rally a group of other people who have survived the initial outbreak in the school not a block from my house. These people will be thoroughly searched for any bite wounds or other such problems and will be quarantined in their own classrooms. After a waiting period of just over a day, the Zombies in the rooms will be dispatched and the survivors let out. The gym area has a double door entrance that should hold well, and is the only entrance of the building not sealed magnetically. This should give us some time to barricade the entrances until the generator runs out of fuel. The roof is easily accessible and has a retractable ladder. I have a homemade water purification system that works very efficiently and once again we would use combined stores of food and loot a few supermarkets before we get settled in. My friend and other survivors will clear the building before any effort is made to stay in it. As for a renewable food supply, we have the situation worked out using the courtyards of the school, which Ilaiddown originally with some other volunteers, so i know that there are at least six feet of useable soil in each of them. We would use signs, flares, flags, and signal mirrors to contact the rest of the world and any survivors we're in contact with.

My plan calls for holding in place(suburbia) until the full scope of the outbreak can be determined via battery operated am/fm/short-wave radio. I have enough supplies hold in place for 30 days.
If bugging out becomes the only option, I head to our farm which provides a greater field of view, has an abundance of wild game, and is off the grid with it's own water supply. From there I can head in any direction if necessary. By driving along R/R tracks I can avoid the sure-to-be-clogged roads, and major towns/cities, while still getting close enough to any other desired destination.

Bug Out Vehicle: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.
Weapons on Hand: (Yes, I actually really DO own the following guns/equipment.)
AT&T gun: Rock River Arms LAR-15 .223 with bull barrel, 4x16x40 scope, and bipod.
(Why let 'em get close if you can take 'em at out 600+ yards. Smaller framed people can be
accurate with it because of little recoil, with a little practice.)
Back-up distance gun: DPMS AP4 in .308 w/ 6 posit stock and quick detach inter-changeable sights.
Closer-in zombie dispatcher: Remington 870 in 20 ga. with 7 shot tube.
(20ga.because 12ga. will be in short supply, AND, recoil not as bad as 12 ga. so quick follow-up shots)
Things-went-horribly-wrong guns:
Taurus .38 sp.+p
Ruger .357 mag
Glock .357 Sig
Springfield Armory .45
CZ Tactical .40
Keltec .32
Browning .380
EQUIPMENT:
H2O Purification Tablets
Collapsable H2O containers
Lots O' ammo for guns
Med/Surg kit
Portable hammock (keeps you off the wet ground)
E-Tool
Self igniting propane solderer
MRE's(3 days worth)
Bolt cutter
Manual siphon pump
Crow bar
50' rope
Duct/elect tape
mess kit
poncho
binoculars
personal hygiene equip.
tarp
mosquito net
