I picked this design because it would be relatively easy to transfer onto shirts and stuff, and it kinda sums up what we're all about (being organized and killing zeds.) I saw that Brooks quote on the home page, and figured it would be appropriate.

Reminiscent of military insignias, this logo features a winged shield symbolizing survival, a targeted skull representing the undead, crossed rifles, and a bio-hazard symbol, along with "ZSDW" and the Latin phrase, "Instruo pro hoc ortus," in English: "Organize before they rise." Designed to be simple and one color, for easy transfer to stickers or t-shirts.

The concept here takes into consideration stuff discussed in the logo thread (Higginbotham's hat thread).
- It's a simple design for easy transfer of images.
- I used black and white because the design can be reversible for black or white shirts, hats etc. and some folks mentioned a tactical look.
- The wiki uses a military style stencil font so I kept that.
- I used a brain image for several reasons, This is a wiki, so we learn from this site. In order to survive, we'd have to not only have knowledge but use it (use our brains) and of course, zombies eat them.
- I used the saying "knowledge is power: because, again, this wiki allows people to contribute and collect knowledge. I was going to put it in latin (scientia est vox) but wasn't sure how that would go over. This of course could be changed to whatever slogan is settled upon.

I created this using various aspects of a post-outbreak life: The biohazard symbol of Solanum, the AR-15 semiautomatic rifles that is a survivor's friend, and a ZDSW banner, all around a scope centered on a shambling infected.

It's a combo inspiration of both a prep school coat of arms and the UN seal, expressing the site's two main purposes: education of the masses, and unity of the z-day resistance.

This one is pretty easy to make a patch or sticker out of. Features two crossed kukris, a crosshairs, and the saying "Aim high."

My design is quite militant in it's nature...but so am I...so I guess that's fitting. All of the nessesary elements are included. The shield symbolizes protection and safety. TheM4's withunderslung shotguns symbolize both offense and defence. The armoured fistwith the fighting knife is symbolic of our need to fight for our very survival...and last but not least...a zombieskull with with a kill shot. Dead centre in the old computer.

I decided to use this design since death is very much a part of the idea that comes to mind when you talk about zombies. I incorporated references to death, such as the message "memento mori" which in Latin means "Remember you must die" translated to English, which is supposed to be a message to the zombies that despite their undeath, they will still die.
"First to fight, last to fall" was a dated quote I recalled from somewhere, and in which it makes a reference to us humans, as we would be determined to fight first, and still have to will to survive and outlast everything if an apocalypse occurs.
I gave some of the text a gritty appearance, to convey the message that war isn't pretty, since it really isn't, obviously.
My central design are two crossed dual-sided blades, with a bullet casing going through the middle horizontally, and just for a bit of slight humor, I added "In war we trust" on the bullet because we know what to expect from war, and that is the fact it is unexpected and unpredictable in essence.

I choose a fairly simple design and limited myself to just three colors, for ease of printing. I thought of the slogan myself and didn't steal from Max Brooks like some people *cough cough*. I went with a crossed AK andmachetein the top circle, since they are basically thestereotypicalzombie fighting weapons. I used a similar font as is used in the site title, to keep it in theme.

I like the idea of a crest as the logo. This one has a zombie sillouette and kukuri and pistol on the shield to represent our enemy and the weapons we use to fight them. The black represents the dark times we will face and the red the blood that will be spilt in those dark times. The knight's helmet represents all of us who will be the ones who fight the enemy and protect our existence.

About the Logo:
When I think of zombie survival my first thought is you need to kill them. It's been done before but I thought a zombie in someone's crosshairs is a good way of getting your point of what you do across to the viewer.

I wanted to design a logo that was simple yet effective. I didn't want to follow the trend ofincorporating biohazard logos, guns, knives, etc. like most of the logo designs seem to have.I think that the idea of surviving a zed apocalypse is about more than just weapons. Asimple bloody, marred hand making bloody scrapes gets the point across. As far as the saying "when they rise....will you be ready?" well that's what the whole concept of the ZSDW. Isn't it?

While drawing the rough sketch and then finishing it on the computer I imagined an insignia or emblem that a security officer would wear during zedpoc. I looked at the Biohazard shield as being simple, yet gets the point across. ZSDW is the shield defending from the danger; a red biohazard sign whichsymbolizesan infection.
The barbed wire is then underlining the name and shield. Barbed wire symbolizing combat, survival, ruggedness, strength and preparation. Barbed wire is typically laid out with some sort of plan and patternbehind it so advancing enemies can be kept at bay longer.
Lastly, i chose a grey background. picturing ZSDW emerging from the smoke or chaos.

About the Logo:
I hope you like my logo, I thought I'd go for the corporate look. Everyone has different ideas about surviving Z-Day, so I didn't include a strap line.
Just to let you know, I am currently a practicing designer and despite all advice, I hand over my logo freely and with confidence in your uses of it. I have read you 'guidelines' and am perfectly happy the conditions.
I only ask that I receive recognition for the design should anyone ask about it, fairly.
Otherwise, if it is chosen - I hope it serves you well that the website continues it's unique popularity.
I am a continuing fan and I hope your preperations for Z-Day are as thorough as my own! xP

About the logo:
Here you will see some simple, yet eye catching options for the zsdw logo. the shield idea, although classic...to me seems a bit bland and predictable, therefore, i offer these instead. keeping the colors basic and the lines clean offer great translation onto any product. there are multiple ways they can be used, and offer both the "survivalist" and the "zombie" side of the genre. I can find a way to combine both together, but thought they were separately great in their own right. variations can be made.

Attached is the Logo that I have designed for your site.
I used the example you guys gave as inspiration and came up with a grotesque Heraldry-type design.
I think it portrays what you guys are looking for, but in an Apocalyptic way!! HAHA.
Nothing in the design is plagerised. I used freely downloadable fonts and changed them up a little, but the rest is me.
The Zombie in the centre of the 'Shield' is actually me!!

My design is inspired by several sources I wanted to do a Zombie w it's head bashed in but I wanted to Visually express that this is a WIKI as well, Hence the puzzle pieces making up his skull fragments. The green color was chosen to give a rotten sickly appearance and the blood spatter was a last minute design but I liked the effect.
