ZSDW base ideas

This page is free to anything and you can just post pictures or write in what you think would be some good ideas for the official ZSDW bases. Really, feel free to add anything.

  • bedrooms- we'll have several beds in each room and we'll also have secret escape hatches
  • camera walkie talkies- to keep in contact at all times

  • walls:

  • Other rooms: a garage or car hole for transports ( if we ever have to scrounge)- thanks to Unifius for this contribution- something like this but less fancy

  • kitchens- I think it would be a good idea for the kitchen to be styled like a restaurant kitchen.

Quickrace89: Here's my two cents.

Before I begin, I'd just like to mention that a fort is way too ambitious for us at the moment - we've no experience in convincing people to prepare for a zombie threat, so we're best off starting with smaller operations, such as stores. Perhaps we should run a camping/gun/outdoor shop first, NOT under the ZSDW name (Apocalypse Co.? And perhaps an internet shop that ships all over the US). Because, let's face it, most people think zombies are a load of crap. That may be so, but the zombie threat can represent almost any viable threat today. For example, if the US goes into recession and chaos breaks loose, and the United States crumbles into anarchy, then people in zombie survival fortresses will be perfectly suited to survive. This fort we're looking to build can be used for hundreds of purposes. We need to look at all the threats the future holds, not just zombie outbreaks. Vica versa, fortresses designed to survive anarchical and chaotic situations would be ideal for zombie survival. We need to design this fort with both in mind, and ALL of our business ventures should function like that, as well. Now, with that out of the way, here's my recommendations.

First, on gun storage. All firearms are going to have to be SECURELY stored, with access regulated by only a few people in command, and the same deal for ammo. I feel that a vault would work best, and perhaps have it unlock if a major threat is detected (eg. 30+ zombies on the radar), but otherwise require someone to manually unlock it and sign out a few guns. The last thing we need is someone going insane, grabbing a shotgun, and running around blowing people's heads off. Under special circumstances, certain people will be able to keep personal firearms in a small safe (eg. a revolver) in their quarters, and they will have to undergo a character test, so we don't have a psychotic murderer with a revolver. I believe you can buy vault doors for around 15 grand. Or, we could simply purchase a few nice, thick gun safes.

Next, power generation. Although we *could* function without power, it would be a lot safer (we get to use all the technology that zombies don't have, like lighting, computers, sensors, cameras and alarms), easier (refrigeration, microwaves, fast communication) and enjoyable (movies, video games, etc. - these things might seem unnecessary, but they will definitely help with morale, and happier soldiers fight better than depressed soldiers, especially when the world outside has gone to hell). If the base is situated somewhere with winds of over 10 knots (you might want to take that into consideration, location team), wind generators are a viable idea. Through a little bit of research, I've found the Whisper 500 3kW 220V Wind Generator - it begins producing power with 7 knots of wind, and is efficient in wind speeds of 7 to 45 knots, and a few of these will provide us with a lot of power. I wrote down $14,800 from one site, but I can't give you an exact price plus shipping and installation.

Thanks to Quickrace89 for this big contribution(refer to above)

Gun Storage: I think it would be a great idea to compromise with Quickrace89 and have the guns stored in a room but have a keypad lock on the door and only have the main people know the combinaton.

Security measures: Some security choices that I think would be good ideas would be if we had watch towers on each side of the bases and if we also had something like security cameras aroud the outside and inside of the building and a room where we could appoint a couple people to watch the monitors and stuff.
  • watchtowers: we could have the watchtowers built into the sides of the bases and keypads on those doors as well, as well as in the security room.

  • security cameras: we could have security cameras around the outside and in the insides of the bases and we could have a room where people that we appoint can watch the monitors and keep everyone safe. I think the guard room should be more luxurious than a normal security room.

AgEnT_GrEEn:

A couple of ideas:

I think that a small uniformed Security team should also be in effect at the ZSDW, mainly for settling disputes between ZSDW members and checking the Armoury and other Restricted rooms at random intervals to see if there's been any tampering or sabotage the cameras didn't catch, as well as manning the Security room and patrolling the base. I think they should be armed with non-lethal weaponry, like batons and tazers in the event a situation where a ZSDW member goes hostile or if a fight breaks out and words alone can't defuse the conflict. In addition, there should be several cell-like roms to hold these members or others caught engaging in illegal activity.

Here's a uniform idea:

Security Guard 1

I'd have the name-tag sewn in for safety purposes, I'd also have a ZDSW badge on the arm and I'd have them wear duty-belts to better hold their gear. An example of a duty-belt I'd issue would be this:

Duty Belt

I'll add more soon.

Thanks to AgEnT_GrEEn for the ideas for the uniforms and the duty belts. Here are some more examples of duty belts:

In a Thread below, started by AgEnT_GrEEn, he suggested that we have normal or basic amenities to keep people happy, just to make sure we have happy Z-Day survivors. He suggested things like coffee machines, a games room, and a few more things. If you have more suggestions on what basic amenities that we should or could have in the base or bases, please don't hesitate to write on this page or reply to AgEnT_GrEEn in his thread.

To add to quickrace's idea, I think the command should be spread out through the base with different levels of power. Each level will have a limit on the amount of ammo and the power of the weapon that they can sign out. Also we should buy a set of weapons that will be given to member that did not bring one in with them. Everyone will be able to accsess the weapon they brought for guard duty or base protection if zeds enter our general area. People should undergo bi-weekly psych exams and anyone getting the good ol' PTS should be set up on some duty that isn't stressful. We should build/purchase an incinerator because re-dead zeds are gonna smell even worse than when they were undead. ~~JugglaJ~~
lord awesome
some one suggested a uniform for security heres a better one
riot gear

AgEnT_GrEEn says: WHO'S GONNA WEAR THAT ALL DAY!?!?! Let's keep in mind that Security doesn't have to be outfitted like a SWAT Team everyday, however I do like that idea in the event of mass insurrection within the Base or if the walls were breached by Skinnies or Hostiles.

RAMBO-117'S IDEA: HEY, YOU GUYS. HAVE YOU SEEN THE ABANDONED MILITARY BASES THAT GUY SELLS ON E-BAY? IN MY OPINION, THAT'S ONE OF THE BEST IDEAS.

The ZSDW would greatly benefit from an actual location. Of course we would have to purchase land for this and pay taxes on that land. I propose the base be in America somewhere. It would probably be best to situate this base in America as over 60% of the wiki is from there. If we bought an empty field in a strategically defensible location against zombies, we could use one of the wiki's archiatects and everyone could contribute in its actual construction. We could have gun training, radio rooms, bedrooms for those staying long and short term. Let me know what you think. This is quite an ambitous idea after all.

Since EVERYONE is a creature of comfort to some degree, we're going to need to make the transition into a Z-day world run smoothly. Therefore, it seems to me that we'd need some basic amenities that a lot of users on here feel essential, yeah I said it....Happy Survivors make for more kills on Skinnies, less in-fighting and mental breakdowns or recurrences of PTSD based on deprivation, and a general sense of happiness.

Some amenities I'd propose that've been mentioned elsewhere or are of my own thinking:

Coffee-machines of some type
A Commisary for various sundries
Laundry Services
Loungeroom complete with classic games, like darts and pool, as well as a small videogame room set up for tournament-style gaming as well as single-player, and a jukebox with music that most can agree on
Small-makeshift movie theatre

I'll shut my trap and let you all throw in your two cents:)

If everything works out, as in finding a location and things associated with the pre-requisites of the Base's construction, shouldn't the committed members meet each other in real life to see if they want to be around each other for any period of time?

Where? Personally, I'd say a hotel near the proposed site or something...

What do you guys 'n gals think?

aaahhh, the door. used for hundreds of years by many civilizations acroos the world. but lets face it: your standard door just isnt good enough. so we need alternatives. ladder? too easily climbed by zombies. roll down door? too slow. howabout we take something so incredibly simple, yet so difficult for the zombies: the playground tower. it is a four sided tower, with an entrance at the top and bottom, about 9 feet wide, with a lot of alternating ledges inside. it goes next to your base, with the entrance at the bottom, and the exit at your roof. it is amazingly complex to zombies,(i go in, then go backwards, then forward....?) but simple to humans. here i will try to post a picture: ummm, i dont know how to post a pic. can someone talk me through it?

Alright, let's try again...
If you want teh ZSDW Global Headquarters in XYZ State, rather than say "a" state, give A SPOT; Elworth Suvivor suggested a GREAT spot, but never in the public forums (prod prod). Don't say "a" stare. Give the name or adress of a specific peice of real estate. That should help resove the issue of where.
