Zombie Combat School
Thanks max brooks for showing us like 150 pages of zombie survival and combat techniques, you should read his books zombie survival guide and world war Z.
1.How to kill a zombie
Zombie's are undead creatures that have only one weakness, the brain. This is the only known weakness of the zombie and as such combat should be based around hits to the head, severe brain damage caused by bludgeoning the upper head is a suitable melee tactic, severing the head has also proved effective. A shot to the head with any manner of firearm is the recommended method of extermination, all though firearms may not be easily accessible to the person in threat. Flamethrowers are one of the most affective small arms for killing large numbers of zombies, human and zombie alike the brain will suffer severe damage when exposed to heat above 50 degrees. Grenades and explosive fragmentation weapons have almost no effect on the living dead as a hit to the brain is necessary, as fragmentation weapons work by causing severe damage to vital organs buy forcing shrapnel into a persons body the chances of a direct hit to the head is slim, all other grenade type weapons have been proven effective though, incendiary grenades have the force of a flamethrower and can be carried easily in any manner.
2.Weapons
Weapons are one of the oldest tools in the world and have been in development since the time they were invented, all though not all weapons are effective at combating the undead and should be discarded for a more suitable one, here is a list of weapons detailing the most affective and ineffective.
Subject one, melee weapons.
1.Kitchen knives.
Kitchen knives are not suitable for combat in any situation against any enemy, all though to the average person they are extremely easy to find they do not posses the strength to pierce bone, a hit to the spinal cord between the bone through the cartilage would disable an opponent all though it would wear immensely over time, discount this weapon as suitable for combat, all though it may be useful in self defense against an opponent when no other weapon is available.
2.Combat knives.
As there name suggests these weapons were designed for combat against human opponents, all though they are intended to puncture vital organs such as the heart and lungs, they may also break bone as these knives are extremely durable. They may not be accessible to an average person but if found should be taken immediately, the combat knife is not only useful as a weapon but as a multi-tool, it has the ability to turn screws and can cut rope, dig and cut firewood, this is an extremely useful item and is highly desirable, all though this should not be the weapon of choice by anyone's standards it can provide protection and can handle various tasks with ease.
3.Baseball and cricket bats.
These are intended for playing sports, but can be equally as useful for combating zombies, the bludgeoning affect is affective for exterminating zombies and also provides a knock-down effect, all though wear on the bat may be a problem these should be kept at all costs if they are the only two handed weapons available.
4.Axes
The axe is one of the oldest weapons known to man, and was intended to break through a soldiers armour and skull in battle, modern axes still hold the effectiveness of the war axe and can be used in a range of other tasks, these are extremely affective weapons and should be sought after, the axe should be chosen over the cricket or baseball bat and held onto for as long as is suitable.
5.Swords
Another ancient weapon is the sword, swords were made for piercing and slashing and could easily decapitate an opponent, all though modern day reproductions aren't made for combat rather for show and do not posses the strength or durability of the older swords, a proper reproduction holding the same durability and strength would be near impossible to find and if a sword is found there is no telling if it has been properly crafted or is a cheap reproduction, do not chose this weapon over and axe, machete or bat.
6.Machetes
The modern machete is both a tool and weapon, and see use around the world. Unlike today's swords, today's machetes are still purpose built, they are more affective tools than knives and are as potent weapons as axes, the only disadvantage being the target must be closer to place an effective hit, putting you at more risk than using an axe. the machete should be highly sought after, all though they should only complement the axe, not replace it.
7.Kukri
The kukri is similar to the machete and is just as affective, they should be chosen over the machete if they seem a more suitable weapon and tool.
There are literally millions of different melee weapons and can not be listed here, choosing the right melee weapon is up to you, but you must take into consideration these things before deciding if it is effective or not, Can it break a skull easily? will it be durable for long term use? what other uses other than combat can i use it for? how close to an opponent will i have to be to effectively hit it?
Subject number two, Small arms
Small arms are the primary armament in all military in the world today, and some can effectively engage opponents at rages of up to 1.5 miles, they are also used for hunting recreation and pest control, here is a list of small arms that can be used to combat undead.

3.M1911 and 1911 clones.
the Colt M1911 entered service with the United states and commonwealth nations in the early 19th century, it is a single action pistol chambered for 45. ACP and holds 8 rounds in a single stack magazine, all though 1911 clones like para ordnance series pistols have magazine a capacity of up to 12 in .45 caliber and up to 15 in 9mm. 1911 variants, 1911 clones may also be double or single action and may also have threaded barrels to accommodate suppressors. the 1911's 45 caliber round is subsonic and can therefor be used in great affect with suppressors.
4.Browning Hi-power
The browning hi-power is a single action handgun chambered for 9mm, it holds a capacity of 13 rounds in a double stack magazine, it was designed in 1935 and is still used by many military today, such as Australia, the united kingdom and Ireland. Modern hi-power variants can be double action or single action and can be chambered for a variety of rounds such as 357SIG and 40S&W among others, they can even have non-factory polymer frames fitted to them for lighter weight.

any other weapon of this type you come across should be evaluated, what caliber is it? how many rounds can the magazine hold? are the magazines readily available in your area? what was the handguns intended purpose?
Rifles.
Rifles are the main weapon of every army in the worlds infantry forces, from battle rifles to assault rifles and sniper rifles to anti-material rifles these weapons are extremely versatile and should be the main choice when combating zombies.

Though kitchen knives are not the best weapon, some do possess enough strength to pierce bone and they are a quick and easy weapon. I do think that you should find a different weapon as soon as possible though.
