There are many sources for zombie knowledge! Some of the most popular ones are:

Books

You can find fiction, historical fiction, past-future historical fiction, and survival manuals all over the place! Quick highlights include:

  • "The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead " : by Max Brooks, is his first book. This book presents itself as a serious survival guide, however, it was actually written as a parody of other survival guides. Although it talks about the fictional Solanum virus and fictional zombie outbreaks, it contains possibly the most useful survival information. This book should be your first port of call when planning against an assault by the undead.
  • "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War " : The newest book by Brooks, contains an oral account of the history of the Z Wars. Serious literature and fascinating reading.
  • I Am Legend - The book, written by Richard Matheson, deals more with a plague of vampires that have taken over the earth, but is a great read about the implications of being a survivor amongst the living dead. The book was made into a movie starring Vincent price titled "The Last Man on Earth"; and later into a movie with Charlton Heston called "The Omega Man", and there is a re-do of "The Omega Man" called "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith. It was said Vincent Price movie that inspired George Romero to make his original Night.

Comics - Notable entries here include: Walking Dead, Deadworld, Marvel Zombies, and Highschool of the Dead (Manga)

    Zombie Films:

    • Dawn Of The Dead : Any version. This is one of the best zombie movies out there, there are a lot of special features including the HOW TO KILL A ZOMBIE (docu).
    • Day Of The Dead : Any version
    • Night of the Living Dead :
    • Return of the Living Dead (parts 1 - 5) : Although if you are counting any of these you really need 6 because this was clearly just for entertainment....
    • 28 Days Later : Not a "classic" zombie, but an alternative theory and possible subspecies that warrants discussion.
    • 28 Weeks Later : Sequel to 28 days. Deals with some of the mistakes you should not make in a post-infected world.
    • Evil Dead (1 or 2) : General primer for the possible variants on undead/evil. May stray too far into the mythic aspects.
    • House Of The Dead (1 or 2) : Again, if you are counting this one you better have 6 to your credit because the "facts" pale under the terrible acting. Makes it very hard to digest good zombie info.
    • Last Man On Earth : An excellent story of survival in an infestation. This 1964 movie, starring Vincent Price was also based on the Richard Matheson novel "I am Legend".
    • Shaun Of The Dead : A comedic look at the "mid-infestation" stage possibilities where survivors still represent a decent amount of the population and some governing bodies are intact.
    • Land Of The Dead : A good movie based on a massive post infection state by the undead where most of the world is dominated by the undead. this shows survival techniques and it shows how you can change a city from an ordinary city to a zombie proof city.
    • Dead & Deader : Cool movie that kind of messes with the idea of zombies and how they come into being.
    • Resident Evil 1,2, or 3 :
    • Undead : A different look at how the zombie infection starts involving a meteor, and with out giving it away for those of you that haven’t seen it they have a very unique way of how to deal with the zombies in the way of a cure. Check it out, good effects on the zombies and funny dialogue. This movie is set in Australia.
    • I Am Legend : Maybe not the typical thought of a zombie flick but it puts a unique twist on the situation.
    • Fido : If you want to watch a funny zombie movie and you have already seen Shaun of the Dead about 30,000 times, this is a good movie for you.
    • Dead & Breakfast : A pretty funny zombie movie involving a group of kids that stay at a bed and breakfast and end up having to fight zombies that originate from a curse.
    • Mutant : Deals with an outbreak of toxic style zombies in an 'American Midwest town'. Local chemical group dumping toxic waste down the old mines of the town. The stuff bubbles up throughout the town infecting everyone who touches the stuff. An original 28 days later plot movie. Farmboy74
    • Flight of the Undead: Outbreak on a Plane : No explanation needed. Good pop ups but that is about it. Bedruler22.
    • Zombie Honeymoon: Possibly the ********* zombie film made in recent times, it features some chick and her boyfriend going on a honeymoon, where her boyfriend slowly turns into a zombie via black **** on his face from some guy and starts eating people. Really bad dialogue, acting and not very believable. Watch it for a bit of a laugh if you wish. Miccy2000.
    • Zombieland: While this is supposed to be a spoof, it does present some good ideas in the format of the "Rules" as laid down by the main character. Some swearing, for those of you who care.

    Music:

    • Are there any musical situations?
    • Re: Your Brains by Jonathan Coultan
    • Iron Maiden attracts them easily
    • Bad Idea, by Lemon Demon. It may be unrealistic, but atleast it's specificaly zombie related.
    • Your Disease, Saliva (Every Sixty Second); ¿What could possibly be more appropriate?

    Video Games Featuring Zombies

    • Dead Rising : Offers a semi-accurate demonstration of good and bad weapons to be used in a zombie outbreak. However, it may be less useful due to the main character not getting infected from single bites or scratches, as well as Zombies dying more easily then they really would (for example, dying from losing only legs). This game is very fun because you can use anything at your disposal as a weapon for example a CD or a bottle. The only problem with this game is that you have a main mission line that has side quests that you can only have 1 try to do. It should be noted that the game is not real time based, as is commonly believed
    • Resident Evil Series (Except 4 & Possibly 5) : These games are based on zombies being results of genetic experiment mishaps. Although zombies tend to be ridiculously strong eg. Taking 3-4 head shots to kill in the games.
    • House Of The Dead : And the whole "of the Dead" series. How can you beat a game like 'Typing of the Dead'? They don't quite have the creepy atmosphere of Resident Evil, but hey, killing zombies is killing zombies.
    • Left 4 Dead : A first person multi-player online zombie survival game. Play as both the survivors and the zombies, and see how both side live. Up to eight players can be in a game. 4 survivors and 4 zombies. Fight your way through cities and cornfields against an infection that resembles the one seen in 28 Days Later. Be prepared to die...a lot. Team work is required in this game, not an option.
    • Dead Island :A first person shooter that comes out sometime in 2008. This zombie game is about you crashing on a vacation island that just happens to be filled with zombies. Be prepared to fight and die in this amazing game, all while looking for your lost family.
    • Stubbs the Zombie : A third person game set in a futuristic city in the 1950's where you ARE the zombie. Quirky and fun, but not exactly "realistic" because Stubbs is smarter than the average zombie. Though the human characters may be a reality when it comes to how stupid they are...
    • Evil Dead Series : A bunch of games based on the movies. Not really that good.

Yes books may not be correct but they may still inform the masses about possible infestation, though some information is misleading the overall awareness will do more good then harm

Come the zombpacalypse, any book on survival will be useful. Of course, Brooks' book has the most info on the specific danger.

I really hated this thing. He seemed very uninformed on the subjects based in reality. Like weapons. Nothing can piss me off more than some one misinforming the masses about possible survival tools and weapons. Now it also seemed jump in tone. Being light hearted and laughable one moment than being completely serious the next. One or the other would have been nice. But here I am criticizing where I have yet to dare to tread. Just for the record I wanted to love this thing, I really did.
