Zombie Games (aka Survival Simulation) - Prepare for the Z invasion!
Zombie Survival Quiz
A nice, comprehensive quiz. I particularly enjoyed the formatting. The high score(I got it) is a Z+. http://games.direxstory.info/puzzle/pl-7-7031-Zombie_Survival_Quiz.php

Lots Of Tests:
This site has lots of test for you to test your zombie survival skills.

Max Brooks Survival Chance Indicator:

On the website for the book World War Z there is a survival chance calculator much more accurate than the non-lame zombie survival test.

www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/425802:
A great zombie survival test on Newgrounds. Lots of good questions, good scores, cool music. Warning: This test follows the max brooks "solanum" zombies, not the George Romero "classic zombies" or 28 days infected.

Dead Men Walking:
A fantastic Zombie Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Game. The most realistic and extensive I ever found.

Online RPG's:
Zombie Pandemic

A totally free zombie survival MMORPG. Based on the popular Dead Frontier: Night 1 / 2 / 3 flash games, DF has an active community with almost a thousand forum members and a comprehensive wiki. The speculation and fanfiction for the plot is fairly rich. It features looting, entering buildings, hunger meter, armour, a lot of weapons, and several kinds of zombies.
The only thing that stands between life in our city as we know it and a brain-eating apocalypse is your registration as a Zombie Fighter with the Undead Invasion Central Command. This Halloween, we need all able-bodied men, women, boys, and girls to rise to the challenge and defend our fair city from the staggering hordes of the undead.

Urban Dead:

Urban Dead, developed by Kevan Davis, is a free low-tech, massively multi-player on-line role playing survival simulation game (MMORPG). It is set in a quarantined city called Malton, though believed to be an English city.

You sign up as one of four classes: civilian, scientist, military or, heaven forbid, zombie. Each of the three survivor classes is broken down further into subclasses. These subclasses dictate what skills you start out with. The game works on a system of Action Points (APs) and Experience Points (XPs).

1 AP is acquired every 30 minutes until you have a max/maximum of 50. In-game, all activities cost at least 1 AP, however some cost more. XPs are acquired by engaging in different activities eg, shooting zombies, healing wounded, reviving zombies or eating survivors. Again, different actions result in earning different amounts of XP. Once a certain number of XP has been accumulated, these can be exchanged for different skills. The cost of these skills varies depending on which class you chose to start your character.

Along with other players you try to survive. Barricade yourself in buildings and fight off the infection... or just join the ranks of the undead decimating all life in your path. This game takes about 2 weeks of solid play to get into but once you start playing it, you can become addicted.

Urban Dead also has an instance of MediaWiki and lots of forums catering to the different roles the players assume.

ZDay:
Z day is an on line zombie survival FPS Game. (Also referred to as a "MMOFPS") You are placed into a city overrun by the infected aka zombies. Meet up, form search parties, use your survival instincts, teamwork is a must for survival, can you survive?
NOTE: This game is currently under development, but forums are still active. Release date is aimed for somewhere around 2010 next year.

Zombies Ate my Neighbors:
Created by LucasArts for the SNES, ZAMN is one of the first and quite possibly greatest zombie game ever created. Zombies Ate My Neighbors posed one of two young teenagers the task of saving their neighbors from the gnawing undead, vicious werewolves, chainsaw wielding psychos, 50 foot babies, aliens, giant ants, and countless other B-movie monsters over 47 levels of ghoulish delight. You’re provided with all manner of improvised weapons to assist you in this task. Squirtguns, exploding pop cans, plates and silverware, bazookas, even Pandora’s Box, and those are just the beginning. Secrets abound in every level if you can survive long enough to discover them. You’re given medkits and potions to keep you alive and power you up with other strange effects. It’s still a masterpiece even today and a fond childhood memory of adult zombie hunters everywhere. With unlimited zombies to smash and the unprecedented feature of Co-op gameplay, it represents the best of Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead put together, released over a decade before either of them!

Resident Evil:

This is the original series that coined the term "Survival Horror" (due to a translation error, too). Using pre-drawn backgrounds with 3D characters, the designers both created a cinematic viewpoint and backgrounds of a quality far higher than was thought possible. Resident Evil, Biohazard in Japan, covered the experiments of the Umbrella Corporation through Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, and Code: Veronica. Each one had little improvements over the previous, the first games being remade for the Gamecube eventually. However, the biggest change for the series was it's fourth and fifth releases. Breaking away from the cumbersome camera and control scheme of the original games, 4 and 5 took the series into action-shooter territory more than survival horror. Old fans rejected the games as no longer being Resident Evil, but these two were undoubtedly the most popular in the entire series.

The game has expanded massively, now a number of PS2 and Wii lightgun titles, two CG movies, a saga of live action flicks, as well as having numerous spin-off games and modifications.

Left 4 Dead
A breakthrough game based on Valve's popular "Source" Engine (See CS and CS: Source). The game portrays four (4) survivors:
A middle aged biker (Francis), an IT specialist (Louis), A student and horror movie fan (Zoey) and a Vietnam War veteran(Bill). It was not explained why the survivors survived (Most assume they got away, rather than being immune) The game is a first person shooter, very familiar to its sister game Counter-Strike in play style.

Much like Resident Evil the Z's come in different variations, including: The tank (A large, muscular zombie that throws large slabs of concrete and can knock survivors away from each other), The Smoker (A zombie that ensnares Survivors in its long tongue and pulls them away from the group), The Hunter (A fast, vulnerable zombie denoted by its snarling that pounces at the survivors from a distance), The Boomer (A large bloated zombie that "Vomits" on Survivors, summoning a horde of normal zombies, also can explode and cover Survivors with bile), and The Witch (A female Z' who is noted by her crying, when approached or startled she will proceed to attack the Survivor who startled her. The Witch has an unusual amount of Health and is very strong.)

Left 4 Dead uses a AI, named "The Director" which instead of placing set spawn points for the Infected will spawn them across the map according to how the survivors are doing, the skill of the survivors, the position and the general atmosphere of the game. The AI also creates individual musical/sound effect cues for the survivors dependent on the situation; thus creating a new Apocalyptic situation for the player every time they play the game. The game was greeted with high ratings (An average of 8.0 across review sites) and was met with unanimous praise by both audience and reviewers alike. Most definitely a game for the conventional to hardcore Zombie genre fans.

A sequel was released in 2009, simply called Left 4 Dead 2. It was met with similarly positive criticism, expanding massively on infected types and weapons.

Dead Rising:
Great zombie survival game for the Xbox 360 where you play as Frank West, an eager photojournalist ready to get any scoop he can. Players must survive for 3 days in the mall, while battling hordes of zombies and "psychopaths", completing the main storyline, and reaching the helipad in time. Weapons are everywhere; almost everything can be used as one, even a mere shower head. Modes include Overtime Mode, the optional side missions, and infinity mode. Only problem, the whole thing starts because of bees and undead cows...Great game, cheap, pick it up.

Call of Duty: World At War
This game is available for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. There is a Co-Op game mode known as Nazi Zombies. This is a first person shooter utilizing WWII era weapons. You are trapped inside a building with the undead hordes swarming the building. You must earn points by killing and spend those points on weapons and opening new areas. You can rebuild window barriers. There is a box that allows for a random weapon generator. Treyarch, the game's producer has also release add-on map packs downloadable on Playstation Network, XBOX live, or for free on PC. The additional map packs include more weapons, new levels, and traps such as electric fences, dead falls, and bouncing betties. This game is highly addictive and can be played online with up to four players. Unofficial link: http://www.nazizombies.com

Homebrew Games

This modification for the Half Life 2 Source Engine is a Teamwork based game, where a group of up to 31 survivors have to face hordes of AI zombies that are controlled by "The Zombie Master" player in a classic RTS style fashion. It is a strictly Online only game, and there is a never ending supply of available maps that are hosted online, thanks to the many awesome mappers that support the mod.

A zombie game that pits a group of survivors in a small area against one or two zombies who are controlled by a player. If a survivor player is defeated (eaten) by a the zombie, he/she will turn into one too. This concept makes up the whole game, and the round ends when all remaining survivors have been eradicated, or when the set time expires. The upside of such a game mode, is that it eliminates the often apparent need in today's video games to wait for the turn to end, and play again. The player is always playing. The downside in particular is that the zombies are controlled by human players. Thus they have the extra advantage of thinking and acting in ways that may eliminate the zombie feeling of the game.

INFECTION!:
In this free, Down-loadable Zombie game, you play as the Zombie infecting helpless test subjects. Please rate the game once you've played it.

Am actually surprised this wasn't posted. The basic premise for those who do not know, is the release of a viral agent from a secret Umbrella testing facility. While the creatures are not all zombies, the actual undead are much more difficult to defeat. Team them up with cross-species zombies, such as dogs and crows, making a harrowing adventure.

Survival Crisis ZLand of the dead: Road to Fiddler's Green:

Die Zombie! Die!
(made by user MichaelRiley)
Not much of a simulation, as the combat and zombie behavior in this text based choose your own adventure game is unrealistic and far fetched, although still considered by some to be a fun game. The third game features variables such as health and stamina etc, while the first two are styled like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

Zombie Games (aka Survival Simulation) - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

Outbreak: Undead
A pen and paper role-playing game that allows players to engage in virtually any type of zombie outbreak scenario they can think of. A 460 page hardcover book; the contents include a player's manual, zombie guide and GM (Game Master) section, which makes the core rulebook and a set of dice the only assets players need in order to successfully run the game.

The game is unique because it uses real life elements such as Panic, Pain and Empathy to tie in variables otherwise not present in most zombie or role-playing games. The creators have even developed a character creation system they've named SPEW-AI which stands for Strength, Perception, Empathy, and Will Assessment Inventory, which is based off a psychological questionnaire. The SPEW-AI system allows the player to take an online test, receive a set of stats and then jump immediately into the game, playing himself or herself as a character.

Hello everyone. I'm planning to make a 3D zombie survival game. I think I will be doing it in dark basic to start with, right now I mostly need to discuss my ideas and stuff like that. I really want it to be a multi player game, but I will start by making a single player version of it. Here are the basic elements I want to include:
- Total freedom of movement (access all buildings, able to climb walls not taller than yourself etc.)
- Realistic aim and overlay (no number telling you how many bullets is in your gun, you should know that. Hunger meter, Thirst meter and health meter) and the way you aim, no cross sight and a fatigue meter.
- a huge variety of things that can be used, all lights, radios, phones, melee weapons, shovels, vehicles..
- Be able to punch and kick (if you don't have a weapon).
- ALL sounds should attract near by zombies, especially gunfire.
- Level up. When you get a character to a safe zone, you level up that class of character and the game starts over, you should be able to choose from like 6 different classes (military, civilian, doctor, athlete, martial arts expert, geek) or more.

The goal of the game is to get to a safe spot, only problem is that when you start you don't know where it is, so you will need to like find messages written on walls, get a radio to work etc. Then you will also need to get food and water to survive. you should be able to survive like 20-30 days depending on how much you move around without food but only 3 days without water. In order to simulate you sleeping (in multi player mode you will have 2 servers per server so to speak. One where it is day, and one night, then they shift and if you don't want to play when it's night you find a safe enough spot to sleep on (like in a locked bathroom where zombies wouldn't look because you basically make no sound when you sleep).

What do you think could make the game more realistic and more fun?
