Are you an evil genius? Do you build Rube Goldberg devices for fun? Do you obsess over secret compartments, trap doors, and other various traps?
If so, you've come to the right page! This is a page dedicated to all the creative devices that one might invent for the sole purpose of killing zombies and/or for self-protection during a zombie based catastrophe.
If you have a Zombie Killing Contraption or a device you made, just add it below by signing in and clicking the "Easy Edit" button. It's easy!
Horizontal sub floor, zombie decapitation device:
In the book Zombie Survival Guide, Max Brooks talks about having a shelter that is elevated, where the means of reaching the elevated area can be taken away (pulling up a ladder, smashing stairs, breaking an elevator etc) my first contraption is having a slightly lowered platform that is roughly neck high on a zombie, that the zombies will try to use to get themselves to my elevation, from this a large blade will swing out, decapitating any would be zombie attackers.
John_234
problem: not all zombies are the same height. You'd have to have a way of adjusting it
And how would you effectively propel the blade?
The Zombie Compactor:
The zombies are first lured into a narrow corridor. From this corridor, the floor drops out, and the zombies slide into the back of a converted garbage truck. Once the zombies are in place, a hydraulic metal spiked plate lurches into motion, and doesn't stop until the lot of zombies are all compacted into zombie hamburgers at the end of the truck.
Zombie Pendelum:
A simple pulleysystem is used tolift a heavy wrecking-ball like object which is dangling between 2 poles on sturdy metal cables. Once the timing is right, the wrecking ball is released, and allowed to swing, instantly snapping zombie backs and whatever else bone it collides with. The high-tension in the cables between the ball and the pole willslice through any zombies that are lucky enough to miss the ball. Once the ball starts to lose momentum, it can be hoisted back up and kept in motion until it isn't needed anymore.
The Orbital Smasher-Slicer:
Using the same principal of the zombie pendelum, a heavy wrecking ball is spun around a circle at a fast rate, held by a thin as cable as possible. It would spin fast enough to stay 3-5' off the ground. Anything that didn't happen to get hit by the wrecking ball as it stepped within range would be sliced in two by the cable. This trap could cover a much larger area, but might not be as effective as it requires a motor and is more prone to failure by the nature of it.
The Zombaton:
Made this this evening on my lathe. Nice little baton or a short bat for quick zombie whacking. It's made of very solid one piece oak and the handle is wrapped in hemp. I added a lanyard so you won't drop or lose the baton. I plan on making more of these and maybe drilling out the head and filling it with lead to move the weight more toward the strike point. Though its fairly heavy now. Its about 2' long. I know it wont work for a long term zombie basher, but its quick, takes no ammo and easy to carry. Please feel free to leave me some feedback or ideas to improve the baton. I'm also thinking of making a solid mace shaped one with a large ball on the end.

Here is a closeup of the lanyard. All still carved from the same piece of oak. Made from very strong hemp.

Alicestar:
With a grip that long you might want to try a weighted pommel, this will allow for better balance of the weapon as well as counterweighting the swing which will greatly increase the impact force.
Richboy:This thing will probably break after you hit a couple zombies with it. Try to use a metal bat instead.
Stui: Try taking an aluminum bat with the end of the handle cut off and fill it with mortar.
It will have ALOT of weight and is nearly un-breakable.
Dvergamali: These bats can take alot of abuse. Ive used them for many things. I can bat round wooden balls and billiard balls all day with them. also bat to bat fighting is no problem they aren't as dainty as they look.
BlooD PiG: try putting some steel plating on it and some barbed wire for more killing potential
BJ: If you're a fan of Max Brook's book at all then you should notice that he almost constantly stresses how you cannot kill a zombie unless you remove the head or damage the brain. I'm personally undecided on this point, but in the case that it is true, I would recommend putting some sort of metal spike on the bat, something that would be able to pierce the head and stick into the brain.
John_234: maybe wrap it in a metal jacket?
dont change it its perfect, dont put a spike in it, youl get eaten because you cant get the spike out, blunt objects work best
The Marsden Mobile
The Marsden Mobile is a custom made vehicle, (Shown Below) built around a metal cabinet.

The Mobile has, as shown above blades for slicing through hordes.

The Marsden Mobile also comes with a wheelbarrow attached to the back for transporting materials and holding supplies.

As you can see from the picture above, it is powered by an engine and a car battery, cables run inside the metal cabinet. A wooden bench also protects the driver from zombies directly in front.

Here it is in the dark it has two lamps attached as floodlights were to heavy. It can average a speed of 28km/h so it isn't exactly too fast.
the zombie be good stick- it is an axe handle with no axe it has a duct tape handle and writing on it that says zombie be good stick and a knife on the end like a spear its very nice and most likely will be effective i wish i had a picture.
THE KILLBOT!!!
I have not made one yet, but it is a remote controlled robot with a live feed camera thing on it with a gun and something to beat zombies with! It is just an idea. -GrantHatman

Fresnel Lens: This is probably to be considered a 'fall back weapon', maybe something to use when bored or out of ammo. And, well, it's only usable in the daytime. Archimedes did take down an entire enemy fleet with a mirror, so if you add something shiny you can increase your range. Maybe set atop your 'brick house' with a string of mirrors set to light up the whole perimeter. While fire takes a large amount of time to reach and properly char the brain, this 3000 degree number can melt pennies in minutes, so a fairly short hit on the eyes can quickly boil and explode the brain. Loot some stylish dark-arc welding safety glasses and stockpile Windex to keep zombie guts off the mirrors. It'd also be great to tidy up after a major zombie extermination. It packs light and makes tea quickly too. (Someone invented a Fresnel lens flashlight that can set an object on fire in a matter of seconds at distances of up to 7 feet. Here is a link to the video here)

Spraymachine's"GraveMaker"

Here is what you need:
Remote control Monster Truck
2.4 Ghz wireless spy-cam with TV to view
Pistol/homemade gun with a light trigger pull (could possibly do with a rifle if the truck pulled a trailer lol)
Decent powered electric RC motor with second remote control/battery
Ability to make stuff people shouldn't be making
Basically make it like the picture
THE FLAMESPITTER
I made this crap myself. Basically it's a water gun with gas in it and a lighter attached to it.
Before you try makin this crap yourself use it with water first. Try to cover the leaks so that you don't get burned. You should use gloves when you're using it.
Flame door security:
Somehow get a few propane tanks, starter and piping. Attach them together so that you can turn it on and off from the inside of your building and lead the piping outside of your house to like a containing area in front of building. Zeds come near you turn on gas spark the starter and roast 'em.
The Sheild Of Man - Empty[UK]
So The idea of this device is to be able to shield yourself from Zombies when in close combat. Basically this device is an electric lawn mower stripped down to basics. The plastic is taken off the sides, so you are left with an electric motor and the blades. Then the motor is covered with a light metal (aluminum) and also a circle of the metal under the blades to protect the user. Then weld a handle onto the back of it, so it can be held like a traditional shield. Then to make it portable, Cut the wire at aprox 2 metres and then strip 2 cm of the ends. Then take a car battery and strong cord so it can be carried on a solder. then solder the wires to the correct frequency ports and in theory you should have a portable, shield/chopper upper. wish i could explain this better.
Residentmagnum

residentmagnum
this is a work in progress but this is the basic idea
it has spiked rims for those who saw resident evil 3
a plow to break through barricades and zombie hordes
a slot cut in the door for a gun to fit through to shoot zombies
It seats four inside and two brave people out side
The fuel would have to be diesel
It no dead reckoning the ideal is a scout vehicle that can pick up survivors and handle it's self
byates:
Counter-rotating cylinders with chains attached at staggered heights, set close enough together so that the chain have a few inches space at the ends while spinning. Have enough to block a street, attract Zed's attention, enmasse. Zombie processor, instant mulch.
HOME-MADE BRASS MACE--- By Kevin990
Alright, so i had a little spare time and some brass lying around not really doing much, so i made this.
Yes i know brass is soft and heavy and the spikes might get stuck in a skull blah blah blah... i really dont care, this thing is bad-ass.

The Lenght from tip to tail is roughly 14"
The spikes are held in securely with an M10 thread and the head is pressed onto the shaft and i made sure it seized up.
It's pretty heavy, roughly 3kg, but can deliver a hell of alot of force.

There's a total of six, 3" spikes. 3 on top and 3 around the edges.

It also has a lanyard.
It took me roughly a week to make, but if i didnt have a social life i reckon i could make one in about 10 hours.

Basically make it like the picture
- Secure the shooting device at an upward angle
- Mount camera down the barrel to see target
- Attach a string to the trigger and then around the spinning part of an electric motor (needs to be able to pull 5lbs or so). And Yes you can lighten the trigger pull if your's is more, but I can't explain here. Then hook up a second RC system to control motor.
- Use weights, wheel bars, or your imagination to counter balance the truck so when it fires it doesn't do back-flips.
