A typical rager (28 Days Later style) would actually only survive for a short time if they were classic "infected" with no sense of self-preservation. The only water they would get would be by accident (falling into freshwater or rain falling into their open mouth) or what they get from eating a body; a rager that only wishes to kill and doesn't consume its victims would survive for an even shorter time, as it wouldn't get any food.

Add to that the possibility of infection from wounds and the ability to gradually die from blood loss or injuries instead of simply soldier on for weeks with a missing torso like a typical zombie, and after about a week or less the infected would be suffering badly from malnutrition, dehydration, and any injuries or illnesses they suffered. If they don't sleep, that's even worse for them.

Far from being automatons or guided missiles on legs, they're exactly what they seem like: a man who forgoes all needs for simple killing. How long do you think YOU would last if you completely ignored food, water, pain, fatigue, and illness to beat, claw, and bite people to death forever?

However, this all assumes that the virus (being the most scientifically plausible) does nothing but incite this rabid rage into its victims and truly causes them to forgo all needs. It's perfectly possible that they would have enough intelligence to seek out food and water (an even more improbable mutation would let them gain sustenance and energy from other sources) and even be dissuaded by pain or have simple problem solving abilities.

The most dangerous zombie is the one that is truly animalistic.

I think the best advantage the Internet would provide is in case of a slow-moving virus; it very visibly appears and takes time to spread instead of the classic "Suddenly ZOMBIES" scenario from movies, giving people plenty of time to discuss the virus before it reaches their home. If not to coordinate their movements, then to allow for research to be consolidated and information posted in a public forum.

The big problem there is separating good information from the bad. Imagine trolling during a zombie apocalypse....

I think they will dehydrate just like a living person/corpse, if you deprive them of sustenance, they wither and decay. This is my main reason for holing-up and waiting out an apocalypse.

Does this have any corralation with the earthquakes? I saw something on the news for certain areas around DFW/ North Texas to prepare for something, an earthquake I think it was.
