StrykerPez The Nastier Things: Sewage and Garbage... 11 Today, 5:59 AM EST by StrykerPez

The Romans figured it out (sorta)...

Can you?

We've already discussed getting clean water. Now, how would you keep a post Z-day survivor colony free from disease as your group of people generates waste... and lots of it.

Where do you go to the bathroom? Where do you dispose of trash and food waste?

And where do you dispose of bodies?

DEVILDOGMP Trade, Buy, Sell, Train, Get Creative! (page: 1 2 3 4) 75 Monday, 7:55 PM EST by redcomrad
Thread started: Nov 28 2011, 6:31 PM EST  Watch
Here is just a little game I came up with for everyone:
Step 1) create your profile, you're allowed 1 rifle/shotgun, 1 Sidearm, 2 Melee weapons.
Step 2) add things you really own or would like to such as radios, MOLLE gear, knives, books, MREs, your favorite canned food, dried food, water, flavored drinks, alcohol, tabacco, etc.
Step 3) You are in what was once a carnival ground, now completely abandoned and rusted from the lack of maintenance due to the zombie apocalypse. Here is where you set up shop, and here is where you get the goodies you want.
Step 4) Barter, trade, sell, get training in exchange for goods, do whatever you want to get what you need to create the loadout you want and need. Trade as many times as you want.

Let the games begin, have fun!

timberrattler Good deals thread. (page: 1 2 3) 49 Feb 2 2012, 10:15 PM EST by zhunterd

This is a place for everyone to post what they believe to be good deals they've found on the internet.

Its great to find a good deal and even better when you can pass that info on to your friends.

http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/2276.php

I believe this rifle kit is a good deal. Its a complete AR-15 midlength w/ adjustable stock, flat top upper and a stainless .223 Wylde barrel. $499.99 plus shipping and handling. All you have to provide is a stripped lower.

Feel free to share links and info on other kinds of survival gear and weapons you've found.

EDIT:
So essentially the main point being, our military has masses of weapons and mankilling capabilities, from the trained soldier to the airborne missile.
The movies always portray the military in dissarray, not being able to contain the mess. Well, can they?

LJ126 ZSDW WELCOME WAGON!! 6 Dec 30 2011, 8:09 PM EST by cyrano222
Thread started: Dec 12 2011, 4:01 PM EST  Watch
If you're new to the site and haven't introduced yourself, go ahead and do so here!

We're all members here for the same reasons - we all love zombie movies and wonder, "What will happen if it really did happen? What would I do? Is my family safe?" That's what the site is all about. Contained within is a wealth of survival skills and preparedness knowledge, as well as product reviews and gear ideas from seasoned survival-types. There's also a lot of lighthearted discussions and what-if scenarios to wrap your brain around.

If you have any questions, feel free to open up a new thread and ask the crew. Don't mind some of the grouchier members here; we can't figure out what's wrong with them, but we theorize that they either smoked too much or were dropped as infants! However, most people here are very friendly and understanding that the new folks don't yet know the ropes, and will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. If anyone harasses you (we've had some problems with that) let me or another moderator/administrator know - we're more than happy to set things straight.

It would definitely benefit you to check out the site and get to know your way around, but the content inside the Administration and Moderation Articles section on the left is especially important. There are a few "newbie" guides, our Code of Conduct, and information about the ZSDW staff members. Most of the content on our site is oriented towards adult-aged users, but that doesn't mean horseplay isn't allowed... just be mindful of others' feelings when you post and you'll be fine!

Please fill out your profile if you haven't done so. We'd love to learn more about you! Send me a PM if you need any help putting it together, I'm more than happy to help out.

BTW - I'm Jon. Nice to meet you. Thanks again for joining the site!

cas13f Gear Review in the Works 8 42 minutes ago by cavscout888
Thread started: Jan 26 2012, 3:17 PM EST  Watch
I just purchased some new gear! I will be putting up a review page for it as I use it. For now, I will be chronicling my use in the thread, and will build a page when I believe I've had enough experience with the gear in question.

What is the gear in question, you ask?

The Kershaw Ripcord. It is a small knife that deploys out the front, rather than the side. It is not an automatic knife, it uses a unique form of a framelock that requires the sheath to work.

My package came in yesterday, containing a headlamp since my other had been stolen, and this knife. When I first remove the knife from the box, I was amazed at how compact the whole thing was, even with a sheath. When I first drew the knife from the sheath, I was amazed at how smooth it was to remove, without even having to very specifically lever the knife away from the nodule that operated the mechanism.
The next thing I was amazed at was just how sharp it was. I very nearly cut myself pretty bad! It's as sharp as a razor from the factory, far sharper than my M16-14SF. It is a standard blade, about 3", with no serration.

Over the next couple of days, it will be living on my belt and used and abused through my daily routine. I'll be doing what I can to test the strength of the locking mechanism. The design of the knife means that it should not be used for prying-it's not an extreme heavy-use knife like my CRKT or my Kabar, but as of yet it seems like a very useful general-use belt knife.

StrykerPez Essential Equipment for Vehicles 8 54 minutes ago by OutlawJames
Thread started: Today, 12:58 AM EST  Watch
We already have a thread regarding the selection of a suitable vehicle for those of us who don't like the idea of trying to make it where we are.

This thread is for discussing what kinds of things you want INSIDE your car (or perhaps bolted to the outside) that will help you survive.

Here are a few I can think of quickly:

- Jerry cans and carrier. Extra gas is always good
- Fullsize spare tire, jack, lug wrench
- Mini air compressor. A small leak doesn't mean you have to swap in your spare if you have a compressor to fill up when it gets low. Also good for varying your tire pressures (down for dirt, up for pavement).
- All tools common to your vehicle (or at least a pair of screwdrivers, pliers, some wrenches, and a socket set)
- DUCT TAPE.
- MORE DUCT TAPE. (preferably second roll is camo color)
- protein bars and water pouches. they'll keep forever.
- rope

Sullivan714 Your next weapon (page: 1 2 3 4 5 ... last page) 282 58 minutes ago by Filadog
Thread started: Aug 27 2011, 9:51 PM EDT  Watch
Whether its a firearm, melee, or crossbow...What will realistically be your next weapon you purchase and why? Just curious to see what everyone has planned for the near future.

Currently, I have my eyes set on a the Springfield GI 1911 .45 because I've always like 1911's but never got one. Also I already have a Glock 21 and I'd like to stay with the same caliber for ammunition. Springfield Armory has great reviews as far as reliability too. I also am eye'ing the Remington 870 Jr. 20 Gauge because I don't have a scatter gun yet. I like the junior version with the 18 and a half inch barrel because it'll be nice for clearing narrow small rooms.
