The ZSDW staff takes a strong stance against unapproved solicitation. This policy exists to prevent the threads from being taken over by spam. Some of these links could be malicious and harmful. The reason we have an approval process is so that we can screen individual sites to ensure that they are not harmful and are on-topic and of interest to our user base.
If your account posts a link to a separate website every single time you post, your account will be permanently banned. If your first post consists of little more than a link and advertisement to another website, you will be banned until the staff can review your individual case. I advise everyone to re-familiarize themselves with the ZSDW's Internet Security Survival Guide, written by DevilNuts some time ago. it outlines how to protect yourself on the internet. If there is an unknown link or URL posted to the site, you follow it at your own risk. http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/Internet+Security+Survival+Guide Any questions can be forwarded to me or any other member of the ZSDW staff. ~Jon (LJ126) |

If you're new to the site and haven't introduced yourself, go ahead and do so here!
We're all members here for the same reasons - we all love zombie movies and wonder, "What will happen if it really did happen? What would I do? Is my family safe?" That's what the site is all about. Contained within is a wealth of survival skills and preparedness knowledge, as well as product reviews and gear ideas from seasoned survival-types. There's also a lot of lighthearted discussions and what-if scenarios to wrap your brain around. If you have any questions, feel free to open up a new thread and ask the crew. Don't mind some of the grouchier members here; we can't figure out what's wrong with them, but we theorize that they either smoked too much or were dropped as infants! However, most people here are very friendly and understanding that the new folks don't yet know the ropes, and will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. If anyone harasses you (we've had some problems with that) let me or another moderator/administrator know - we're more than happy to set things straight. It would definitely benefit you to check out the site and get to know your way around, but the content inside the Administration and Moderation Articles section on the left is especially important. There are a few "newbie" guides, our Code of Conduct, and information about the ZSDW staff members. Most of the content on our site is oriented towards adult-aged users, but that doesn't mean horseplay isn't allowed... just be mindful of others' feelings when you post and you'll be fine! Please fill out your profile if you haven't done so. We'd love to learn more about you! Send me a PM if you need any help putting it together, I'm more than happy to help out. BTW - I'm Jon. Nice to meet you. Thanks again for joining the site!

This is a place for everyone to post what they believe to be good deals they've found on the internet.
Its great to find a good deal and even better when you can pass that info on to your friends. http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/2276.php I believe this rifle kit is a good deal. Its a complete AR-15 midlength w/ adjustable stock, flat top upper and a stainless .223 Wylde barrel. $499.99 plus shipping and handling. All you have to provide is a stripped lower. Feel free to share links and info on other kinds of survival gear and weapons you've found.

After taking a quick glance through the latest threads being discussed in the 'Updates' tab, it has become painfully obvious that most of the threads being discussed are inadequately titled. Many of these titles lack direction, they're often misspelled and improperly punctuated, and a lot of the time, they provide no indication as to the topic of the posts contained within the thread. Since the title that is assigned by the OP is the one under which the whole thread is assigned - it cannot be changed - it needs to be carefully chosen because it is the first part of the thread people see.
Here's a few tips for choosing a title: - Choose a title that reflects the content of the thread that you're posting. It's nice to know what you're getting into before you get there! - Check the spelling of your subject title before hitting that little grayish-pink "Post" button. Nothing says "I'm retarded" like a poorly spelled title. - If you want people to take the time to read (and respond) to your thread, take the time to dot your I's and cross your T's. PROOFREADING should be performed before you hit the previously-described "Post" button. - Proper punctuation and capitalization are good things! Feel free to use them in your titles too. Nobody expects perfection - we're not giving you a grade and we're not going to assign you homework. However, if you expect us to treat you like an intelligent member of the ZSDW, you must SHOW US that you're an intelligent member of the ZSDW. An extra minute or two of editing can change a poor post into an excellent one, and excellent posts (and the person who posts them) get noticed.

i know we have mentioned dogs in zombie survival but i dont think it has been exhausted like guns and BOBs. the link above is a playlist of dog training videos (not as good as i wanted but the best i could find). i have always liked the idea of training a dog to search a building for zombies before we enter, attacking a dangerous person for me, and staying guard while i sleep. the advantages of having a k9 companion are numerous, but which breed to choose? a medium/large breed dog like a german shepard would be a good dog for defending you, but they will require alot of food. a beagle would be great for everything but defense. also large breed dogs can carry a dog pack to transport some gear or at least carry their own food

We have had a lot of threads started for this, and even now I am getting messages saying "Have you heard..." etc.
So I am going to make this the Official thread for this, because the others seem to be getting missed, no doubt in part due to the Subject/Title of the thread being vague and ambiguous. All links and updates can be passed on to me, and I will edit this first post and put them in here for reference. Other threads will have a link to here, and any new threads should be directed here. Just took everyone and my oldest's boyfriend out for a day of shooting ALL the guns.
Well the best thing that came from it is there is a new shooting enthusiast. He now asks to go shooting everytime he talks to my oldest. Also he now knows GF's dad can shoot. lol Now the main reasons for this thread. 1) Since there was a extra person I didn't have enough ear plugs to go around. So I "Manned Up" and shot without hearing protection. And boy do those muzzle brakes make the guns "LOUD". I knew it but didn't know that loud. I train off handed, barrier shooting, variable positions, with and without sights, ect, and ect. But always with hearing protection for safety. But now realize my muzzle breaks are loud and my M44 Mosin is dangerously loud. It could deafen someone easily and REAL fast. So now I'm rethinking all my muzzle brakes but especially the M44's. 2) Carrying all guns that would be a normal load out for SHTF. Had everyone dressed up in complete gear but the shooters only had the practice firearm on them for safety. Now gonna have to redesign my scenarios and range for multigun practices. So everyone can get used to shooting with everything that they will carry. Heck it just make it more fun but safety is always a must at all times. Anyone find other issues when shooting or have ideas for me. Thanks for any and all input.

| StrykerPez | Bug Out Vehicle vs. Urban Escape Vehicle: Different Uses | 12 | Today, 5:30 AM EDT by Reaper37 | ||||
|
Thread started: Yesterday, 5:33 PM EDT

I thought I'd clarify what I see as the difference between a BOV and a UEV. A Bug Out Vehicle is like a mobile Bug Out Location: it in itself represents your survival. You "Bug Out" into the vehicle in case of SHTF. A BOV should be packed with as much life-sustaining equipment and supplies as possible. Wood gassifiers, water purifiers, whatever. All good on a Bug Out Vehicle... it becomes your new home once zombies attack. An Urban Escape Vehicle is different in that its main purpose is transportation. As the name implies, a UEV is used to "escape" the city and flee to a Bug Out Location, while carrying more supplies than possible on foot at a greater speed. Thus, the UEV should focus more on fuel efficiency, speed, and maneuverability rather than sustainability. Once you've arrived at your destination BOL, the UEV has served its purpose and is ready to be stripped for essentials, or used as a scout car if not totaled yet. So with those descriptions in mind, my ideal BOV would be a large diesel military vehicle (durability, ability to carry everything I own) and my ideal UEV would be... probably a dirt bike. I might get one some day, but the Scion has to do for now :)

In about a month, I will be moving down with my mom to Merritt Island on Florida's Space Coast, near Melbourne, Cocoa, Titusville, Patrick AFB and, of course, the Kennedy Space Center. My house is located on the west side of the island on the Indian River, which separates it from the mainland by about a mile, and has a small, dilapidated private dock running out to it from the backyard. The previous owners left us a two-man kayak in the garage. The house is two-story with a separate garage -- looking at it, I figure that the lower floor would be hard to defend due to the preponderance of large windows and glass doors, though removing the stairs and retreating to the second floor wouldn't be a great difficulty. Living with me will be my mother (yes, I'm still living with Mom after graduation) and, starting around December, my brother after he finishes his motorcycle mechanic training.
Merritt Island is long (about 20 miles, give or take) and narrow, with a population of about 34,000, a small airport that services mostly private planes, and a strip mall-oriented commercial area with a mall and all the usual stores. The Pineda Causeway to the south of my house is just under 5 miles away (with another 2 miles or so to get off the island), while the Merritt Island Causeway to the north, which holds the commercial area, is about a 7.5 mile drive. The house is located in a (non-gated) community with only one way in or out by land, and about a half-mile drive between my house and said entrance. Anyone from the area have any tips? Something tells me that gas is gonna be a problem in an emergency, given the long distances I have to drive to get anywhere. I've been told that Merritt Island is protected from hurricanes by the barrier island to the east (population ~40,000), though I'll probably still have to deal with high winds and rain even if the storm surge is blocked. |

Realistically the best gun you could have would be light, reliable, accurate, cheap, decent range, and have abundant ammunition and be over all kick ass(sorry for language). What Rifle would fit all of these requirements? Why The "Henry Repeating Arms AR-7 Survival Rifle" of course.

Alright. Say we had an actual location, and had a sufficient amount of bills to start building a small armory. Forget that we don't really have either of these, or that we would be put on several watchlists for doing so. What would be the firearms and melee weapons that would stock our newly-purchased gun racks and cabinets?
We don't have the money to stock it with highly expensive weapons, so for this scenario, we'll put a cap on $1000 cost per piece for firearms, and $100 cost per piece for melee. You must also consider that not everyone here is a firearms native (keep in mind our high teenager traffic), and therefore might not be able to operate and care for complex weapons efficiently (AR-15, etc.). You want a gun that you can basically say "This is here, that's there, ok, you're good to go." What would you choose, ZSDW? Rifle: (one only) Pistol: (one only) Shotgun: (one only) Special-purpose firearms: (Any non-standard, niche-filling firearms, can choose more than one.) Knife: (one only) Additional melee weapons: (as many as you want) {{{{EDIT: This is not a place to post your own, personal loadout. Please be so kind to actually read this post and follow the instructions in said post.}}}}

First off: Happy Memorial Day! Thank you to all of our troops, past and present, living and dead. Most of you, I would assume, have already seen this story on one site or another or even on a newspaper. I'm not saying it was zombies, but it was zombies. Now in reality, it was drugs, but still, this is a disturbing read to say the least and I think deserves a thread on the forums.

If you didn't have all the TWD drama and a little boy who was never watched going on in your group what would you have done as far as planning if it was you and your group living on Hershal's farm?
Would you have used all the cool things like a backhoes, tractors, stock trailers, T-posts, woven wire, barbed wire, electric fence wire, junk pile, hay equipment, welders, chainsaws, generators, carpenter tools, garden tools, ect... to fortify your position or would all of your planning went into an extreme bug out plan that would get you out of the area before the first walker stepped foot on the property? NO, you do not get Hershal's "infinity ammo" shotgun. Sorry.

Alright guys. I need to hear your input on what you have always envisioned when you hear "Zombie Apocalypse Vehicle". Accessories, colors, lights, roof rack... whatever.
My Urban Escape Vehicle is in the garage while I work on the Stage Two suspension and engine design, so I've got time to tinker with other things as well. Already working on full CB/HAM/Scanner comm suite, among other things. I will take all your suggestions into consideration when designing the next phase of the UEV. This time... it's war.

You have joined with a small group that has a large tour bus converted into a mobile fortress. Nothing heavy duty, but there's one mounted Fifty on the roof, plenty of guns and ammo to go around, and enough diesel, food and water to get where you're going and then some.
For the purposes of this exercise, the group number is fluid and you may substitute members of your own group if you want, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 people, counting women and children. Your only other vehicle is a 650cc dual-sport motorcycle, ridden by your scout. As you travel toward your hopefully zombie-free new home, your scout reports back that a group of bikers and troublemakers have set up a roadblock on an intact bridge, and are planning to levy a toll of most of your stuff. As a group, you decide to run their barricade at full speed, guns blazing. It pays off, and you make it through, losing only the gunner on the Fifty as a casualty and a flat tire on one of the sets of duals as collateral. Of the 20 or so bikers on the bridge, only 10 are left. You push on, stopping only when a bullet-holed fuel tank begins to make problems several hundred miles farther near the top of a grade. The group decides to make camp for the night. You have spare cans of diesel, but the tank must be patched first. It is almost dusk, and from your vantage point in the fading light you can see four motorcycle headlights winding up the road in the distance. They stop at what you recognize as an old motel you passed about 20 miles down the mountain. Now it comes to the decision. Do you: A: Find a good spot, dig in, and wait for them to come to you? B: Assemble a team and hit them after they pass out tonight? C: Keep running, live to fight another day (keep in mind they ARE following you and are pretty mad about the roadblock incident...) D: Other.

I'm relatively new to the site and to firearms in general (I'm 16) but I'm making plans and saving money for when i can legally buy a few firearms. I already have a couple rifles and a shotgun in mind but I don't know much about handguns. Does anyone have a recommendation for a handgun. I would perfer a 9mm semiautomatic or a .357 revolver. Any thoughts?

I thought of LJ when I saw this. What's everyone's thoughts of getting downright artistic with your weapons? Most of the time it's all about function and reliability when we discuss firearms here. Anyone ever thought about building a "zombie" gun just for funzies? Something that makes your gun different and unique. Something that makes a statement about you and is just a tad different than what you're used to seeing. No there is no logical reason for adding something custom that serves no real purpose other than putting a smile on your face. If we didn't like to put our stamp on things we'd all drive grey Toyota Camrys.
