Ive been packing to move into my new house and as I was packing the closet I found a handheld CB radio I havent used in years. I bought it from a coworker for around $50, took it home used it a little and stored it. He was a hobbyist CB radio operator/repairman/tweeker. He has this think cranked up a little.
Tonight I was playing with it in the yard trying to find a skip. Anyhow, anyone here use CB radio or plan to use it SHTF? I have alot of questions lol

Well, I'm sad to say that real life finally happened to me. I had to trade in the Hummer for something *sob* more practical. We needed less debt to help with our upcoming mortgage so I picked up a Pathfinder.
Now as a former Nissan Xterra owner I've got a good idea as to what I'm getting into here. I will say this though, wow. These people sure know how to put more gadgets into a vehicle than I've ever seen before. There's cameras and dvd players, and and all sorts of switches and buttons I haven't even tried yet so that's kind of exciting. I'm also looking into lift kits and larger tires and of course one of my custom light bars (check my profile for the xterra light bar) but otherwise I'll leave it pretty much as is. Better make a point to this thread or it's going to seem like rambling so..... as far as survival goes have you ever thought about how much more or less your vehicle is going to make you prone to looting? Kind of like having a BOB that screams militant, having a vehicle that seems uber capable might make the neighbors remember you come an apoc situation. Just a thought.

As you are all aware my emergency plans involve holing up on my families farm. It has goats, chickens and alpacas, a few fruit trees, greenhouses, a generator and a acre of 4 foot high hard fencing around a pasture. It has 14 acres, 3 wells including a old stone well with a solar panel pumping water into a automatic water, a 33 Horse Massey Ferguson tractor. It's pretty well equipped I personally believe. My only concern is That I-84 runs through at the CT/Massachusetts border about 2 miles away from the farm. I'm located in the small pocket of small hilltowns in Western Mass and border the-smallest town in Connecticut (Union Ct has a population of 800 and none of the immediately surrounding towns has over 5000 people. Do I need to be concerned about potential traffic jams on i84? It's a pretty lonely and abandoned stretch of road but it is the major highway connecting between Hartford and Boston/Massachusetts.

i was watching doomsday prepper and it seems that the only people who get an acceptable score are those who are rich or have lots of money. the show has given people who have an insane amount of survival skills a score of 30-40(3-4 month before you die) and those who have such great gear and underground bunkers yet show no actual survival talent a score of 80-90(17-20 months before you die). do you guys think this is true that the wealthy will survive and the poor wont.

I'm watching a new show on Discovery (HD I think) channel called "Surviving Zombies" and although this program is chock full of good info, the location is Montana and the 3 guys on the show really do not have the appearance of 'mainstream' average person. Previous to this show, something called bunkers was on and the same thing: the 'preppers' while average people, kinda were made to appear on the extreme.
These guys are using plenty of ideas, quotes and thoughts we've used here often. Makes me wonder if we were a source for anything.

So, what do you think? Will it take down a grizzly bear? I've been in the market for a .22lr handgun for a while now and finally dropped some money on this little honey. I was more interested in a .22 revolver and will most likely be purchasing one in the future but I thought I'd give this Browning a try. I don't really expect to do much hunting with it. I'm thinking of putting a red dot up top and using it for some plinking fun. What I want to know is if any of you think a .22lr handgun is a good choice for a backpack gun? Would it be worth adding the extra weight or would the space and weight you'd use up be better spent on extra ammo for your primary sidearm or other gear?

They say that a B.O.B should be 25% of your weight so for a 200lb male that'd be 50lbs. To me that's too heavy. Unless you're used to packing 50lbs on your back in your day to day life it'll slow you down and maybe even put you in a situation you don't want to be in.
Not all of us but many of us are working jobs that don't require a lot of intense physical labor. We veg out on computers when we're at home and there a whole lot of channels on cable. Video games have made us a seditary society too. Ever look around at people these days? Eyes are glued to iphones at all times. I think that it's time for me to stick to the bare bones basics now that I'm looking to do a "do over" on my pack. I'm packing for my wife and kids too. We don't need a lot that I've planned. I can't expect them to cover miles of ground with what I've packed them. It's un-realistic. This is a hard thing to admit but when it comes to prepping something I've learned, re-learned and re-re-learned is this. You never stop learning. So what's an honest assessment of your bag? Are you where you want to be or are there some things you believe you need to re-think?

I have been plotting ever so slowly to have multiple bug out locations, run by members of my group to fall back upon. Every person's home is a mini fortress, food, weapons, medical equipment etc etc. My own personal goal is 30 days worth of food for 12 people and 14 days worth of water. I have the firepower to equip a fireteam. I am going to help my brother by selling him one of my AR's for cheap, so he would then have two long guns at his house, I am encourging him to get a tactical shotgun and another pistol. He is also working on his own food stockpile as well. I have a friend who is starting to get into the idea of being a prepper and I hope in about two to three years of encouragement he will also be fully in the fold.
My long term goal is to have 4-5 locations that are friendly to each other and would take each other in, and help each other out in the event of a crisis. Strength in numbers and multiple locations to fall back upon are the course I am plotting for my group. So what are your Strategic plans?

I've resently taken a shine to my fathers old crosman 781 and i was wondering if any-one could tell me rather the .177 would be a suitable small game and pest control gun.
Of course i've tried getting a real gun but the gun-laws in Belgium are like Obama's wet dream, i'd have to jump trough hoops and wait for six moths just to own a single-shot .22lr at 20 times the production price. So crossbows and airguns it is. A few questions; - Would a pellet at 400 fps to the face be enough to stop an average person from attacking, what about a whole 8 shot clip? What about at 625 or 750fps. -Is it possible to get crosman weapons and accessories from there site shipped to coutries outside of the united states? I could order a rifle and only a rifle at the local store with 3 months wait and triple the price but, you know. -Whats your favorite pellet and why?

In the iconic thread started by SasquatchJim about tactical vests we discussed wether or not a person should get all "tactical" with their gear or wether they should be as "low key" as possible. We also touched on this in LJ126's thread on handguns being the best general purpose firearm.
Now I've thought about this a lot since Jim and LJ's threads first hit the wiki. LJ126 and DevilNuts changed the way I thought about the subject but I've gotta say if you aren't trying to look badass you might present yourself as a "soft target". Put yourself in the shoes of a bad guy. If you saw a guy who looked like he wasn't carrying would you A) Leave him alone because he appeared to be unarmed or B) Jack that fool because doing so would be stupid simple? Yeah the joke would be on the baddie when you pulled your Glock 19 out of your holster but in the process of your surprise attack members of your family could get gunned down. So I'm going to kick a dead horse and ask. Which do you think you'd rather present yourself as? A soft target or a hard target?

It's been weeks since the zombie apocalypse began. A series of events has put you on the road and on the run. Things haven't gone exactaly as planned and you've been seperated from much of your gear.
It does look like things are looking up for you. You've met a married couple during your travels. This couple, Tom and Emily were uber preppers post-zombpocolypse. They retired early and spent large amounts of thier pensions on preps. You've spent two weeks sharing the road with Tom and Emily and scrounging is sparse. So you set up camp outside a small town and while Tom and Emily have a pimped out survival RV you have nothing more than some tarps and tents. Tom spends his days reloading ammo but never asks if you have any brass you need reloaded. Emily warms up MREs and serves herself and Tom nutrious meals while not offering you any. She also sets up solar panels and they enjoy the luxury of electricity. They turn out to be friends and neighbors who aren't very friendly or neighborly. Would you confront them? Would you except that these things are theirs and that they spent their life's savings prepparing for this? Would you break ties with them? Would you do the same if the shoe was on the other foot?

I am in the process of writing a zombie novel (which I will still finish.) While writing it though I came to the realization that it would be better suited as an animated series online. I have taken a few classes on 3D animation, but unfortunately I don't have access to the same software. I do a different program that is very nice though. I am still in the process of learning the new program, so production could be a ways off. I have already started work on scripting and storyboarding a pilot episode.
What I need are some people who can dedicate some of their time to the project with me. Specifically I am looking for any one who: Would be interested in being a voice actor Would like to help animate Would like to work on concept art Would like to help create storyboards Would like to help with sound FX I know there are more things I will need help with but I can't think of them right now. If you are interested in being involved with this project please post a message or private message me with your contact info and what you think you can contribute. A little about the story so far and the direction I plan to take. The story starts off with a guy and his two friends fighting their way through the apocalypse to get to his fiancee. They realize they can't survive on their own and take refuge with a traveling caravan of survivors. Issues arise and alienate the group. From there they start their own colony. I am really looking forward to this part the most, being able to explore how humanity could survive and what life would be like in an undead world. Throughout the series I really want to emphasize the struggles of humanity and how hard it could become to do the right thing. Thank you for your time. I will work my hardest and keep anyone interested up to date with the progress.

So, I recently found out that the Colt M4 Carbine is one of Portugal's Standard Issue assault rifles, along with the Heckler&Koch G3, the Sig543, the FN P90, the Tavor Tar-21 and Heckler&Koch MP5, as seen here:
http://mundomilitar.wordpress.com/2010/09/06/armamento-do-exercito-portugues/ I often tend to confuse the M family (M4, M4A1, ...) assault rifles with the AR family ones, and sometimes even inside each family. Also, I don't know much about these weapon's features, qualities, flaws, etc. I'd appreciate if someone could give me an overview on each of these firearms, as they are the ones I'm most likely to stumble upon. If you could also introduce me to the other weapons, such as the handguns and the sniper rifles, I'd appreciate it. Just by the way, I mentioned the Colt M4 because it's the one that's the most similar to the AR families, and I like those. Thanks in advance, wkwkwkwk1
